If Utd win would that give him a better record than he had at Cardiff?

The full "Pochettino wants to be considered for United job” article (behind paywall)

  4. Cardiff was a poisoned chalice and in truth I think Solskjaer knew he took it too early in his management career. However I do think that he still had a decent win rate for a team like that around 30% if I remember rightly. They wasted their budget on dross and the squad was pretty woeful.

I just think he fits United much better, as an interim there isn't much to lose, the season is a write off anyway unless a miracle happens.

  5. For how much Scouse is writing in this thread, one would say he's concerned United will be back on track sooner rather than later.

  6. United becomes available less frequently??! Clearly Poch not paying attention.

  7. I think united needs someone a la Hiddink at Chelsea.
Experienced people manager to just take the interim job and happy to leave after the season has ended.

Looks like it's very clear where he fits now

  10. Who gets custody of Castles? 2 xmas's for the bald bitch?

  11. Oh god the media will have have their clicks full of stuff with united and soon with transfer window.

Also these Poch articles are too much. "Considering, thinking, not told down from offer..." (I think it has been just long time from transfer window as these frustrate now)
Cmon no manager with brain(lets not mention M.Silva..) will say out right yes or no to any offer. Ofc it is under consideration, but still seems so highly unlikely. Huge sums to pay for Jose out and buying Poch contract, he has 4.5 year left, additionally offering new contract to him. It is MoneyUnited, but shareholders or who ever coughs up that money is not looking it in a good way.

Also this push from United can make Levy offer good transfer moneys to him. I just dont think it is so cut and dry that you are the big United and now just join.

    Sry for rant

  12. Lots of reports saying it likely will be announced tonight.

Love listening to Poch talk about how important Fergie has been in his career and his admiration for him.

Mark Ogden just tweeted Ole named as caretaker manager. Then was deleted moments later.

  13. Woodward will be happy again now: United’s value has jumped by over £100m since Jose Mourinho’s dismissal. #mufc [Times]

  14. If nothing else these next 6 months will give us an indication of whether players like Pogba truly were singled out needlessly and start performing. Or whether they need to be gone in the summer as well.

  15. Seems pretty obvious to me that Poch is the main man. If we wanted Zidane or Jardim we wouldn’t need an interim appointment till the end of the season.

Yeah unless Zidane is already tied up somewhere and Jardim isn't even on the shortlist, which may be the case. To be honest I just want Pochettino anyway, I can't think of a better fit for United than him in world football.

I just want to see Ole bring back the passion, entertainment and get these players putting the effort in now every week. There is literally no excuses for anyone now, I don't really care about results as the season is a write off. I just want to see the players trying to play the right way.

  17. if its poch could he bring harry with him too that would be nice

Watch Bayern or Madrid swoop in and take Pochettino instead.

  20. Bundesliga's virtually morphing into an Eredivisie these days, and I actually personally think he'd be mad to take the Madrid job. Ramos, Marcelo, Modric, Bale, Benzema etc. all 30+ next season, I'm getting United 2012 ish vibes with them. Key players aging, the peak winning years left with Zidane & Ronaldo, but I could be wrong.

I wish people would stop assuming that there is some great option available now to come in midseason. There is literally nothing to suggest Zidane is available now and Jardim recently rejected job offer also.

Most clubs in this situation would do the same, Mourinho was untenable, get someone in like Ole to sail the boat and make a proper appointment in the summer. Real Madrid got Solari and everyone knows he isn't their long-term choice either.

I don't see how anyone is criticising the board over this...... there is a lot fo be critical of them about....... but not sacking Jose and hiring an interim until May in a dead season. They are hiring a DoF before the real manager comes in as well, the single thing we have needed for years.

    *facepalm*

How is it a ‘dead’ season?

Mourinho has killed this season like he does at every club in 3rd season, it will take a miracle to regain top 4 now with our goal difference it's effectively 12 points to overcome against 5 teams competing for top 4. Lets not even talk about CL, our chances of winning that are as much as me winning the lottery.

It's not just that though, nearly all of our players are not performing, there is a lot that is needed to turn this around, let alone thinking about competing immediately for major trophies right now.

It's not a dead season. But Jose was getting worse. And our key target isn't available till the summer. Nor will any of the best managers be anyway. Get a caretaker in, vitally, get the technical director in, and start forward planning. The squad needs lifting, and some decent coaching. Ole phelan and Co can start to provide that

It’s not ‘dead’ though z. A ‘dead’ season you’d have nottin to play for. That’s far from the case with the FA Cup, European Cup and European places the league to play for not even half a season in.

Regardless of what you think Utd’s chances are, you still have to play the games with the aim of winning them or else what’s the point? You may have well carried on as was.

    Thats dramatically silly talk mate.

  27. I saw this on https://www.manutd.com/en/search?q=solskjaer&tbm=all but it seems to have been taken down

  28. I expect us to now play to win, that's why Mourinho has gone, he was playing to not lose.

But I seriously just see this as a write off we might have a little cup run with the FA Cup, but apart from that Ole is just coming in to sail the boat. Get the players back on side and some positivity back within the club.

  29. It's defo Ole btw, Norway Prime minister just tweeted it and Norway seems to be going nuts about it haha!

Great day for Norwegian football. Good luck keeping control of the Red Devils, @ olegs26_ole

  30. Man, just got home and saw the news. I believe relieved is the word for what i feeling.

  31. Manchester United are currently languishing in sixth in the Premier League, some 16 points behind leaders and bitter rivals Liverpool.

Mourinho is the third manager in charge since Sir Alex Ferguson retired in 2013, and is seemingly no nearer to delivering a league title to Old Trafford.

Manchester United were beaten 3-1 by Liverpool and Jose Mourinho confessed his side had no answer to the Reds' pace and aggression.

Alisson's first-half howler gifted Jesse Lingard and United an unlikely equaliser after Sadio Mane had put Liverpool ahead, but the tenacious Reds were not to be denied their first league victory over United since 2014 thanks to substitute Shaqiri.

Sacking Mourinho wouldn't solve all of United's problems. But it would solve one .

  32. Be great to see Ole back give the place a lift and get us attacking again. And Mike Phelan is a fantastic defensive coach. Will have to dust off his tighty shorts though and Packet of balloons

  33. A few this morning saying Utd want Poch and Poch wants Utd. Stoney from the BBC saying Ole and Phelan should be announced this morning/early afternoon.

    Oh hell no.

  35. Ole confirmed as Phelan as his sidekick. Cant wait for the next game. Haven't said that in almost 3 years ffs.

  36. If I remember correctly Ole should be fan of big srtikers up top(uses one in Molde also), would be interesting to see how he works with Lukaku.

One thing with Ole we won’t be passing it around the box. His attacking drills at Molde are insane. Shoot as soon as your near the box if you don’t he will let you know about it. Goes mental at his Molde players in training if they don’t do it.

Very good also Carrick and McKenna being part of the new setup.

  38. Manchester United announced today that former striker Ole Gunnar Solskjær has been appointed as caretaker manager until the end of the 2018/19 season.

Solskjær scored 126 goals in 366 appearances for United between 1996 and 2007. In 2008 he became the club’s reserve-team manager, before taking the managerial role at FC Molde in Norway.
Solskjær will take charge of the first team with immediate effect and will remain in place while the club conducts a thorough recruitment process for a new full-time manager. He will be joined by Mike Phelan as first-team coach, working alongside Michael Carrick and Kieran McKenna.

“Manchester United is in my heart and it’s brilliant to be coming back in this role. I’m really looking forward to working with the very talented squad we have, the staff and everyone at the club,” said Solskjær.

Ed Woodward, Executive Vice Chairman, comments: “Ole is a club legend with huge experience, both on the pitch and in coaching roles. His history at Manchester United means he lives and breathes the culture here and everyone at the club is delighted to have him and Mike Phelan back. We are confident they will unite the players and the fans as we head into the second half of the season.”

  39. Molde confirming that Ole will return as manager after his stint.

OFFISIELT: Solskjær blir midlertidig manager i Manchester United. Erling Moe tar over ansvaret i Molde i perioden. @ManUtd @olegs26_ole https://www.moldefk.no/nyheter/s

Jup, reading the same stuff about Cardiff, but he was there in 2014 so might have some changes made for himself and they also got him some good backroom staff people.
But at least things might be interesting on the pitch.

  44. Guys, honestly, don't bother with the Cardiff debacle.... yeah he had a bad spell there but the squad was gash and it was poisoned chalice at that time. Cardiff fans will say different obviously of course, they were relegated after all.

But anyway who is looking at it from the angle of 'we hired him because he's a top manager' is looking at it wrong anyway. He has been brought in to improve relationship between players and fans, nothing more, nothing less.

Oh and one more thing, Southgate done terrible at Middlesborough and admitted it was too early in his managerial career. Then he went on to do great things with England.

It's exactly the same with Solskjaer, he took that Cardiff job too soon, be the first to admit that. He went to Molde and won them 2 league titles first time in 100 years they have ever done that. Yes it's Norweigan League but still impressive. Oh and he plays attacking football and is loved there. Hence why it is being celebrated like a national triumph in Norway.

Not to mention in Europa League he won a group with Molde consisting of Ajaz, Fenerbahce and another team I think (can't remember who it was now).

Behind the scenes yeah, but I want Solskjaer to be the main man and get us playing football again. None of this Mourinho bollox, even if we lose, we need to lose THE UNITED WAY. WE PLAY TO WIN, NOT PLAY TO NOT LOSE.... MOURINHO DID NOT EVER UNDERSTAND THAT.

  47. This quote is spot on and just typifies what Solskjaer will bring that Mourinho didn't: -

?Solskjaer has been brought in to build the players up, not break them down.

  48. The hype around Solskjaer seem eerily similar to the hype around Mourimho three years ago in this thread.

  49. Lineup prediction vs Cardiff

    DDG
    Dalot-Bailly-Smalling-Shaw
    Herrera
    Pogba-Fred
    Rashford-Lukaku-Martial.

Alc what hype? People are just happy Mourinho has gone. Ole will come in brighten the mood get us attacking. But we have no expectation or hype about winning anything. Bonus if we do. He’s basically been brought in to change the mood and do a job while the club sorts it shit out.

There were a lot of fans sceptical about Mourinho, even if they were not here. The guy is a time-bomb no matter where he has been and truth be told, he never fit any of the United DNA.

Solskjaer is a United legend but just an interim manager, there really is not much to lose or gain from it. Ride the season out on a more positive wave than Mourinho ever would of provided.
