FM 2009: What Do You Think?
FM 2009 First Look Trailers
FM 2009 Screenshots
FM 2009 Feature Roundup
The videos to the left give us the first look at the brand new Football Manager 2009 (FM 2009) by Sports Interactive & SEGA. From the trailers some of the cool new features we can see are:
- 3D Pitch - The pitch is now in 3D but not a over the top FIFA/Pro Evo style but a much smaller scale tactical view. It is still a work in progress though and may change before new release. The match engine has been in development for 3 years with the support of Japan's Virtua Striker team. For those who don't like change the 2D view will still be available.
- Full Match Timeline - There is now a timeline on display during a match which will enable the user to click on a certain key incident and quickly view it on the 3D match engine. This is very similar to the feature that is in Football Manager Live.
- Widgets - During a match you will be able to pick which 'Widgets' you want to display such as Player Ratings, Match Stats, Live Scores etc....
- Updated Skin - The look of the skin has been changed slightly with a few more features added for better user accessibility.
- Assistant Manager Feedback - Tactical & Motivational feedback during matches to help you see what you are doing right and more importantly what you are doing wrong.
- Press Conferences - Before and after matches and when you take a new job. These will play a key role and the answers you choose to the questions may come back to haunt you later in your managerial career.
- Training - More specific training on learning new 'Special Moves'. So players can now learn to do stepovers etc.. Very useful feature to help train youngsters up.
- Female Managers - No explanation needed, pointless feature.
- Widescreen Support - The game will now be able to work on those nice new widescreen monitors that you should all have. Gone are the days of 1024 x 768.
- Transfer System Overhaul - Complete overhaul of the whole system so it will now be much more realistic.

Yeah the 3D pitch definitely looks much better thn I was expecting. The news conferences look pretty cool aswell, can't wait for it to come out now. More than I was expecting I gotta admit, wp SI.

He mentioned improved transfer rumours too. So hopefully there's a separate page for all that now instead of clogging your news stream up with pointless links to every single player on your shortlist.
*edit* Allowing players to actually train preferred moves is pretty nice too. Was sick of having to make my youngsters learn from people just so they could get one.

I like the idea of better feedback from your assistant, especially tactical feedback. Press conferences is a good idea aswell. Female managers is the most pointless thing ever, at best like one women will play FM I think.

Press conferences - I'm surprised they have waited this long to put them in

Yeah match engine looks good, press conferences looking very interesting but i guess they will get as boring as the usual press comments unless they have a HUGE list of questions randomly spurted up.
