Memoirs of a Slovak - A Sirk Noskcaj Story

Author Notes - I would like to start by saying that this is a learning curve for me and my first attempt to create a story in such a format.I would like to start by apologizing for any spelling and grammar mistakes I make during the course of this story.

Game Notes - This game is being played on version 10.0.2 using a small database. The following league's are loaded....Belarus,Bulgaria,Croatia,Czech Rep,England,Lithuania,Romania,Russia,Serbia,Slovak ia,Slovenia and Ukraine. The manager has been set as 'Semi Pro' and the aim is to win every league that has been loaded as well as the main European Competitions.

Now lets get on with the story...

# # #

My name is Sirk Noskcaj. I am 36 years old and i am a Slovakian currently residing in Kaunas, Lithuania.

# # #

My career as a player was lack-lustre,short and highly inconsistent. An old school left back I was signed on by my local club FK Mesto Prievidza. After three seasons with minimal appearances my contract was not renewed. I was 22 with no job or training. Like a lot of young men at the time, I decided to sign up to the army.

My love affair with the game however, shone greater than ever. I was assigned all across the USSR and Central Europe. I became fixated with Liverpool, There dominance home and abroad was monumental.

After my honorary discharge i found myself in modern day Lithuania. A trained mechanic in the army, I found myself a job and decided to pursue a career in football once more.

Not long after Lithuania gained it's independence in 1990, The whole football system changed in the country.

New teams were registering for the new league and i managed to get signed up by FK Banga on a two year deal. The club and league's grew in stature and in 1994 the club gained promotion to the 'A League'.

It was clear after half a season at this level that i was cut out for it and moved out on loan to FK Nevezis. I did not return to Banga as my contract was not renewed. As i could not find a suitable club in the lower league's I decided my playing career was over.

In 2001 after years of saving, I decided to obtain my UEFA coaching badges. Two years later i was a fully qualified coach and living in Moscow.

The only problem now, Was finding a job.

To be continued....

In 2004 i got a job as a coach for an amateur side in the Eastern Moscow Domestic League’s, it was a great learning curve and i was enjoying my time there.

I was still applying for managerial vacancies here, there and everywhere else but was becoming accustomed to the rejection letter.

Quoted Message:
'Dear Mr Noskcaj,

We thank you for your recent application to fill the vacant positions as manager.

However, we regret that in this occasion your application was unsuccessful.

We would like to thank you again for your interest and wish you all the best for the future.

Kind Regards.'
# # #

On a personal level i have never had a great social life.

When i was a trainee i thought the world was at my feet, I could do anything...and anyone i pleased. That attitude may have been part of my downfall as a player, an attitude which was soon beaten out of me in the army.

My time was spent where i was told. I was posted all over the former Soviet Union. Playing football and relaxing with my unit filled up my spare time. That and watching the mighty Liverpool of course.

After my discharge and my return to football, my time was spent either working, training or playing. Football is not the biggest sport in Lithuania and most of the local's would rather watch basketball. I would work in the garage in the morning, training in the afternoon and return for another shift in the evening. It was hard graft but I was used to much worse and my heart was set on being a footballer.

# # #

My life in Moscow was refreshing and new, by 2008 i was the club manager and also managed the local school side on Sunday morning's. I was two and a half years into my first relationship since i was 18 and i was happy.

Her name was Selma and she moved to Moscow from a small farming village outside of Warsaw, Poland. We met at a ‘Learn English’ class at the local Library. I had not paid any particular attention to anyone in the class until about 4 weeks in when we were paired together for a role playing exercise.

We hit it off right away and after 6 months together, found our own Apartment.

# # #

I had just finished training with the kids on a bitter August night when my cell phone began to ring.

Little did i know that one phone call would change my life forever...

I had just got into my old worn down Vauxhall Astra when my cell began to ring. Assuming it was Selma I answered in a casual laid back tone

‘Hey’ I said openly

‘Mr Noskcaj?’

Taken back by the formal tone I replied ‘err yes it is, may I ask who is calling?’

‘Mr Noskcaj my name is Gintaras Ugianskis, can I assume you know why I’m calling you this evening?’

Gintaras Ugianskis was always a very straight up and personal man. His tone polite and well mannered. He made is fortune in investment banking and from what I hear he was damn good at it too. An executive at ‘Ukio Bankas’ Gintaras was given the role as chairman by majority shareholder of bank and club Vladimir Romanov.

I have received a few call backs while applying for positions but I was not expecting such a call from a club of there stature.

‘In regards to my job application, sir? ’ I still spoke to those of whom have a higher authority than me as if I was still in the military.

‘Yes, I have been looking over your CV and I am impressed by your qualifications. With the club’s current situation I believe you may be the man we are looking for.’

In 2008, after finishing 2nd in the league Gintaras and his board decided to remove themselves from the Lithuanian a League. He claimed the club has suffered from ‘bad referees and fraud’. The LFA were not too pleased with this and removed Kaunas from the league altogether. They now play in LFF II lyga (consisting of amateur teams) for its actions. Kaunas said goodbye to most of the best players & It’s manager.

If I wasn’t gobsmacked before, I certainly was now. I struggled to find the words but somehow I pulled myself out of the trance the man’s last two sentences put me under.

‘Sir, you have caught me off guard a bit here, I assume you are not outright offering me a job?’

‘Correct, I have arranged for a car to pick you up outside your home in one hour, He will take you to Moscow International and have a car waiting to take you to S. Darius and S. Girėnas, Where I will meet you. I trust this is acceptable?’

Without hesitation or thought I replied ‘Yes sir, I look forward to our meeting’

Excitingly he replied ‘Excellent! I will see you in a few hours Mr. Noskcaj’ Hanging up before I had a chance to thank him once more.

# # #

While rushing to get home I realized throughout that whole conversation, I did not think about Selma

‘SHIT’

I stood outside our front door with a look of fear, all I could think about was Jar Jar Binks in Star Wars telling me 'you'sa in big du du now'. Selma's dislike for the new Star Wars films was always being brought up on movie night's so it may not have been the best joke to crack.

I eventually decided to walk into our home and to my surprise, there she was, standing at the front door with a look of excitement and sheer happiness.

'Well?' She screamed excitingly

'You know? but how...?'

'They called the house first, I gave them your cell number' Still brimming with excitement.

'Nothing gets past you Selma, I should know that by now' She smiled and skipped over to the other end of the hall way.

'here' she said 'I have already packed you an overnight suitcase, your good suit is already in there. don't crease it for the love of god'

Unable to contain my excitement I thanked her with a kiss and a hug wondering how i found someone like her.

'But how did you know It would be good news?' I asked in a oddly high pitched tone

'Women's intuition...it's never wrong' she smiled with confidence.

Finally we sat and enjoyed a meal before my car arrived. I looked out the window as it all sank in.

BEEP...cars here.

# # #

Thank you everyone for the words of encouragement so far. It really helps keep up the motivation to continue writing. I can only hope you enjoy the story and i promise there is allot more to come...and the football is not too far off either I promise.

More updates soon
