  1. The Return of Z.Z

    The Return of Z.Z

I was sitting on my sofa in my lovely new expensive house in France, kicking back enjoying my retirement. I’ve been retired for four years now and I love it, however I wish I could somehow get back into the football business. I’m obviously too old to continue playing, the risk of getting a serious injury is too much. So, that’s when it came to me. Manager. Imagine that, Zinedine Zidane a manager. Lot’s of the former top footballers are doing so why can’t I? So I sat there and thought. What club would be willing to hire me as manager? So I opened up my laptop and went into Internet Explorer and typed in ‘Sacked Managers’. It came back with some results but this was hopeless, the best team I could find to manage was some team in England called Dartford FC. I thought to myself that maybe being a manager was too big of an ambition and for a while gave up on the dream of becoming a manager. So I shut down my laptop and through it onto my king-sized bed. Then I realized, am I being greedy? I have a brilliant life, an amazing house and an amazing wife. But I still wanted more, the football business isn’t something I can just walk away from so I turned on the 50 inch, plasma screen TV and it went straight to one of my favorite channels. ESPN News HD they were talking to Sheikh Mansour, owner of Manchester City. Then along the bottom on the scrolling news headlines it said ‘Manchester City owner sacks manager along with all backroom staff’. I couldn’t believe it, this is possibly the ultimate opportunity for me to become a manager, a top team, lots of money and a vacant managers position. So I turned up the TV too almost full volume so I can hear exactly what Sheikh was saying, they were interviewing him about a load of stuff about why they sacked him and blah, blah. It was obvious they sacked him because Spurs finished above them and got the Champions League spot but then Sheikh said the words I wanted to hear. “We will be reading applications for anyone who would like to become manager, just e-mail this address. [email protected]. So the first thing I did was grab my laptop turn it back on and typed up my application for manager of Manchester City. I was thinking to myself about how amazing it would be if I got the job. Once I had finished the application I typed in the e-mail address and clicked ‘Send’. I could not believe it. I had just applied for the job of manager of Manchester City.

---------- Post added at 09:12 PM ---------- Previous post was at 03:48 PM ----------

I woke up this morning at about 9am, the dream I had was amazing, it was the dream that I got the job of manager at Manchester City. Then I thought, maybe a day was enough to be selected as manager. So I loaded up my e-mails on my laptop and it said "5 New E-Mails". I was hoping that maybe, just maybe one of those five was the announcement that I had become manager. However its was something completely different. Something I did not expect. The subject of the e-mail was "Vendetta" and the e-mail was from "[email protected]". I had never had an e-mail from this address. I opened the e-mail and could not understand anything in the e-mail apart from two words. "Manchester City". This was the e-mail "
Non preoccupatevi cercando di diventare manager del Manchester City, sarete cacciati e mi batterò con grande vendetta." I was frightened. Not knowing what it meant sent shivers down my spine. Someone knew I had applied for the job of manager of Man City and weren't happy about it. So I went into Google and typed in my name and Manchester City after it. The results showed the obvious, it had been leaked that I applied for the job and I was on a betting site showing the odds for the next manager of Man City.

  2. Man City, really?

But if it was real life, I'd say this is great so nice start.

  3. Thanks mate, this is my first story hope it's looking good, tell me if your following

---------- Post added at 09:49 PM ---------- Previous post was at 09:26 PM ----------

    Manchester City Manager Odds
With Roberto Mancini sacked as manager and Man City's chairman leaving the door open wide for anyone to apply as manager there could be a massive list of people applying for this prestigious job. However, we at William Hill have narrowed it down to a smaller list of manager to get the job.

    Fabio Capello 10/1

    Martin O'Neill 8/1

    Frank Rijkaard 15/1

    Jose Mourinho 5/1

    Zinedine Zidane 20/1

    Manuel Pellegrini 3/1

    Pep Guardiola 2/1

    Roberto Martinez 15/1

As you can see Pep Guardiola is favourite for the job and Zinedine Zidane is the least favourite due to him not having any managerial experience. Sheikh Mansour is expected to announce the new manager later this week.

Yeah, Man City is actually supposed to be quite hard, have signed Modric when I have been at previous clubs and he is very good, I may consider him. Also, may I ask you, are you following?

Yeah, Sissoko is also class, and I will, don't worry.. also if you're a spurs fan.. take a hint from my signature <3

  8. Yep, the legend Spurs!!!!!!

  9. Nice to see more and more people getting a storyline in their stories.

Few tips; use paragraphs, easier to read. Only problem I've really got though is that this is essentially the same as "manc ity gaffa saked me taken ovir!11!!". And you've used the old "not expected to get the role" with you at 20/1 but we all know you're getting the job, right?

I'll be delighted if you can prove me wrong and turn this into a brilliant story, though.

Pretty much every story these days is this template.

New manager resigns/get sacked for unknown reasons/fight with chairman.

Shock as manager who was never expected to get the job, gets it.

I'm not complaining here, as I think your OP was good, nice use of perspective, but just sayin'.

    SHIT ON THE CITY!
Eds-99, you make a valid point but I think due to his decent opening paragraph, his isn't going to be as simple.. so I suggest we all let him have a few updates and then judge his story telling.. you make a valid point Ed, no doubt about it but it's not his fault about other peoples crappy story telling is it?

  13. It is now exactly a week from when those odds were released by William Hill and that means today should be the day that Sheikh unveils the new manager of Manchester City. I woke up this morning at 10am and the first thing I did was turn my laptop on and go into e-mails to see if I had been given the job or if I had the dreaded apology letter. I clicked the 'Send/Recieve' button and no new e-mails appeared. I thought to myself 'Thats Funny, Why Don't I Have Either a Congratulations or a Apology?" So I clicked it again "No New Messages" the laptop spoke to me. I was thinking all the worst thing, what if my application didn't get to Sheikh, what if I didn't press 'Send'???

So I picked up my phone and rang one of the other contenders for the job and one of my friends Jose Mourinho. 'Doo.Doo'... 'Doo.Doo'... "Please Answer, Please Answ-"
"Hello" Jose always said hello instead of hello in Italian for some reason
"Hi, it's Zinedine, I was just on my laptop checking for an e-mail from Sheikh to see if I had the apology or congratutions and I had neither. What about you?"
"Well, lucky for you, i'm one of the guys who got the apology e-mail"
"Seriously!! You were one of the top contenders!!"
"I know but oh well! I am happy enough here in Madrid and anyway about you not recieving an e-mail I do not have a clue about that maybe you should try and get hold of him. If you want his number his buisness are always showing it off on TV. Try channel 1004."
"Thanks so much Jose and sorry on not getting the job. Speak to you later"
    "Yeah, bye"
So, I turned on my TV...

Yeah, but it would be nice to see something different, always more entertaining that way. Although his OP was good.

    And nice update there Ross.

...And guess what channel it went to? No not ESPN News HD but Sky Sports News..

Andy Gray: We are proud to be the first to announce the new Manchester City manager after Sheikh Mansour just spoke to us and informed us of the new manager. Sheikh informed us that the new manager of Manchester CIty is now Roberto Martinez, he has left Wigan Athletic to join Manchester City and is already looking to bring in some great players with the money he will recieve. We recently spoke to Roberto on what he thinks of being chosen to be manager of Manchester City above many over great managers.

Andy: So how does it feel to be in a way chosen to be taken from rags to riches? I mean you started off at Swansea City jumped right up to Wigan Athletic and now your at the richest club in the Premier League!

Roberto: I feel great, I am overwelmed that I have been chosen over many of the worlds top managers for this fantastic job.

Andy: Are there any players that we might see leaving Wigan to join Manchester City?

Roberto: There is just one player I am extremely interested in bringing to the club and that will all be revealed at a later stage.

Andy: Thank you for your time Roberto.

    Roberto: My pleasure.

I could not believe it, I had actually lost out on the job of being manager. I mean I know I've had no experience but why has Roberto Martinez got the job and not someone better. Roberto is my friend but I don't think he deserves the job. However, all this still does not explain why I did not recieve an e-mail back from Sheikh so I found his buisness channel on my TV and I rang their number. No answer, I rang again. No answer. He was either ignoring me or just didn't want to answer the phone at all. So I just turned the TV off in anger and just continued with my normal day.

Nice start Ross. Assuming you're going to end up @Man City soon-ish, i would have preferred more of a challenge, but i may well be proved wrong, i hope i am.

  24. Today was the most shocking and full on day I have ever had in my life and rather than me blabble on about what happened i'm just going to take you to the France24 report that interupted an English programme called 'Gavin and Stacey'.

    (Translated into English)

We apologize for the interuption of this programme but we have been told to call in an emergency report. The now former manager of Manchester City has now been pronounced dead after he was found in his appartment lying of the floor in casual clothes. Paramedics pronounced him dead 10 minutes ago and police believe that the cause of death is homocide. The murderer may have been made quite obvious due to the fact that above the body written in blood were the words 'ZZ. Colpo di testa'. We are currently unsure what the letter ZZ stand for but we do believe that the words 'colpo di testa' mean headbutt. We will inform you when we have any more information.

    Roberto Martinez
    1973-2009

So, Roberto died and the letters ZZ were written in blood and what are my initials? ZZ. I was the first suspect in the murder, but when I watched this report that didn't even come to mind because after that my phone rang. 'Unknown Number'. I still answered it and the person who was on the other end was Sheikh Mansour.
    "Hello?"
"Hello, it's Sheikh Mansour here. Is this Zinedine Zidane?"
"Yes it is, infact I wanted to rind you myself."
"Is it about a job application by you?"
"Yes, I applied for the job of Manchester City and when you announced Roberto as manager I didn't have an e-mail from you. Did you recieve my application?"
"Unfortunatley no, but I should have done. I was checking through my 'Recycle Bin' and and e-mail from your address was there and it was your application and well by time I had read it, it was too late to undo the decision to make Roberto manager."
"So.. why do you want to ring me? "
"I would like to inform you that now sadly Roberto is unable to take control of the club I have chosen you to be his succesor."
"Seriously!! But, what about the fact that I am a suspect for the murder of him?"
"I trust you. I am hoping and trusting you to admit it wasn't you."
    "It wasn't me."
"That's OK then. I would like you to inform a meeting tommorow with me and some more important people from the club to discuss about your job. Thank you. Bye"
    'Bye"

I could not believe it I had become manager of Manchester City, while I was a murder suspect. I was safe though because the police and Sheikh kept the fact that I was both a secret. Most people believe I could be a suspect because of ZZ but the police have not confirmed it and Sheikh will not announce the new manager untill I am cleared of murder.

  28. I woke up this morning unknown what the hell was going to happen at this meeting, I was nervous out of my boots not only becuase of the meeting but because what if the press saw me enter a building with Sheikh? They would automatically know I am either near to getting the job or have the job. So, I got up early, 7am, and got straight into the shower. I got dressed into my nicest suit, Giorgio Armani, and put on my nicest aftershave, yet again Armani. I got out my brand new briefcase and put some paper, pens and all the stuff you would need at a meeting and brought my laptop. I drove there, took about an hour.

When I finally got there I purposely parked my car in the back car park this massive building in Paris. I walked in got in the elevator and went to floor 5 like I was told by the receptionist. I arrived and the doors opened. It was a giant room with one big table with Sheikh right up one end of it and an empty seat at the other end. I guessed it was my seat and sat down there. Sheikh welcomed me and showed me everyone there.

After hours of talking and discussing I think I had finally taken in everything and checked my laptop over to make sure I typed it all up. Yep, I was sure I had everything. I said goodbye and made my way home. When I got home I checked it over again and made sure I was happy with what the club wanted from me and what they were willing to give me if I did what they wanted.

What they wanted was Premier League winners, it is going to be a hard challenge, but with at least 150m pounds going to be given to me to try and complete there demands I was happy.

I looked at the clock it was 11pm at night, time went so fast. It was time to go to bed, tommorow I have an interregation with the Police and I can't be tired for that.

  30. great story!!!

  31. I woke up this morning feeling exactly the same as I did yesterday morning, nervous out of my boots. This was the day that really determined weather I kept the job as manager or not. I knew I was innocent but the police didn't think that and neither did the press, everyone was against me execpt Sheikh. Someone had purposely set me up so it seemed like I murdered Roberto, but I did not and I needed to show the Police that.

I sat on my sofa with the room dead silent, waiting for the Police to come and escort me to the station. When I heard the knocking at the door I straight away went and answered it, thankfully it was the police and I was taken into the van and driven to somewhere where they would interrogate me...

I finally arrived and I was in this dark room with just a table and two chairs. There was one man already in there, he was obviously going to interrogate me.

After hours and hours of questions from this man he eventually asked for a DNA sample and my fingerprints. I gave them both knowing I was innocent.

I was told to stay there while they investigated them, then the man came back into the room. The words he said were the best words I had ever heard in my lifetime. "You are cleared of the murder of Roberto Martinez". I felt like screaming "YES!!!!" and running around the room however I just answered with a simple "Thank You" and went on my way to be escorted back home.

When I got home I rang Sheikh told him the news and then straight awayI was pronounced manager of Manchester City. He told me I had a budget of 260m pounds. That was plenty for what I wanted to do. He then told me that the budget had just become 257.5m pounds because we had just signed Victor Moses from Wigan Athletic for 2.5m pounds. It was obviously the transfer that Roberto started and the chairman finished for me. He then told me that I have a friendly match against Preston in four days. I thought that was a bit early but at least I can test out the squad I had. Sheikh then informed me that they had already replaced most of the backroom staff except Assistant Manager and another Coach. I already I had some people in mind for those jobs so it was perfect. He then just hung up.

    Victor Moses
    2.5m Pounds

Then the first thing I did was ring the whole squad and arange a meeting at the stadium and anyone who did not turn up would be put on the transfer list. When I got there not everyone was there so unfortunatly so players where put up for transfer within a few hours of me becoming manager. Those players were Shay Given, Joleon Lescott, Emanuel Adebayor and Craig Bellamy. I was sad to have to put these players up for transfer as they were all going to play a major part in my team.

I gave everyone that turned up a speech and told them that if they did not play well they would probably be sold. I also told them that there will be some changes round here and many players may be sold anyway to make way for better ones. I thenm apologized if that was them and said goodbye.

When I got home it was only 3pm, so I decided to ring the person who I would like as my assistant manager. I told them how much I would pay them and they accpeted the job. Even though we were rivals with his former team he still joined us. I had just signed Joe Jordan as my new assistant manager. I was extremly happy with this because I knew he would fit in perfect with the team and what I wanted to do with the team.

  40. When's next "big" update.

  41. Today I sent out a scout for a young, German, central defender named Omer Toprak. He plays for the German club Freiburg. He's 19 years old and I believe he will be a great prospect for the club, even if he goes out on loan. I also have made a bid for Luka Modric of 18m pounds and it has been accepted, I believe that is enough to pay for him and I offered him a 5 year contract on 70k a week and a 1.2m pounds signing on fee. Hopefully he will accept because he is a player I can see becoming world class.

    Omer Toprak

    Luka Modric

I am also extremely nervous because our first friendly of the season is in 2 days time and I still haven't decided on the squad. There are a few players that have confirmed there place in the squad but during the friendlies I think I am going to use a rotation system.

Today was the day... my first game in charge of Manchester City. I had finally decided on the squad and told the lads the team during breakfast and warned them that there will be rotations happening at half time. I also revealed the new kits for the new season, the lads were chuffed when I told them I helped design them. Although, I think they guessed I helped when the sponsor was Giorgio Armani!

In the end I decided on the following team:

Joe Hart GK, Aleksandar Kolarov LB, Jerome Boateng CB, Nedum Onuoha CB, Kolo Toure RB, Yaya Toure DMC, Adam Johnson ML, Victor Moses MR, David Silva AMC, Carlos Tevez FW, Robinho FW

I didn't use my strongest team but I tried out a new formation, I also purposely didn't use any players that didn't bother to turn up to the meeting at the begining of the season.

Manchester City 0-0 Preston North End

    Man of the Match

    Joe Hart

I was extremely disapointed with this result and expected much better of the squad and I made sure the lads knew of this. 0-0 against a club in a lower league than us if terrible. I kept the same formation at half time but I did make some changes. I brought of Micah Richards of Kolo Toure, Gareth Barry for Yaya Toure, Shaun Wright-Phillips for Victor Moses and Roque Santa Cruz for David Silva. I then swapped Robinho and Santa Cruz's positions. The squad should have easily won this match.

Today was supposed to be quite a good day, it was my second friendly match and I have signed some top players who should be given a chance to play in our team. However, one of the players who I was planning in playing today became injured. Nigel De Jong would be out for 2 weeks due to a chest injury in training. I wanted to see how well he played with the new formation I wanted to test due to losing the match against Preston. But that went out the window.

Today was the day, the second friendly out of three. I was desperate to win this one and decided to try out a new formation, I liked the idea of 4-3-3. I thought that this formation would be a good one to use with the new players I have signed. In the end I decided on the following team:

Joe Hart GK, Wayne Bridge LB, Micah Richards RB, Omer Toprak CB, Kolo Toure CB, Luka Modric ML, David Silva MC, Franck Ribery MR, Carlos Tevez FW, Robinho FW, Victor Moses FW

This obviously wasn't me strongest squad it was a mixture of subs and first team.

    Manchester City 4-0 Coventry

    Man of the Match

    Robinho
Yes!! Now this is more of the result I wanted. We never really got off in the first half untill right at the list minute Robinho opened the scoring. Then, after 62 minutes Carlos Tevez made it 2-0, Robinho then got his second goal of the game in the 71st mintute and then Franck Ribery scored on his debut in the 85th minute to make it 4-0. I was happy with that result. At half time I brought off Wayne Bridge for Aleksandar Kolarov, Micah Richards for Nedum Onuoha and David Silva for Stephen Ireland.

    Roque Santa Cruz to Valencia
    5M Pounds

    INJURY BLOW!!
I could not believe it, my captian and top defender is injured just before the last friendly and just before the start of the season. Kolo Toure will be out for 3 weeks for the same reason as Nigel De Jong, a chest injury.

Today was the last match of pre season, my squad had improved. I had spent money and I was planning to spend more to make my squad as strong as possible. I decided on a team that is almost the strongest team possible. I also decided to try out a player in a slightly different position but keep the formation 4-3-3. I told the lads the team the day before the game so everyone was prepped. Because this was probably the hardest team we had to face during pre season. I told the lads the team that was:

Igor Akinfeev GK, Aleksander Kolarov LB, Nedum Onuoha RB, Jerome Boateng CB, Yaya Toure CB, Luka Modric ML, David Silva MC, Franck Ribery MR, Fernando Torres FW, Carlos Tevez FW, Robinho FW

    Manchester City 1-0 Rangers

    Man of the Match

    Franck Ribery
I was proud with the final result due to the fact that the team wasn't our first 11. The goal scorer was Omer Toprak who scored a header from a brilliant Franck Ribery free kick. I brought Omer on at half time Nedum Onuoha and that was a brilliant decision. At half time I also brought on Adam Johnson for Luka Modric and Gareth Barry for David Silva. However, unfortunatly I had to make a change in the 90th minute, Adam Johnson had to come off for Victor Moses due to the fact that Adam Johnson had a tackle made on him that made him unable to continue play. He suffered a broken toe and will now be out for 3 weeks. Injuries, Injuries, Injuries.
