How to get the best out of Giroud?

  1. How to get the best out of Giroud?

I am managing Arsenal, and after 2 months I am first in the league. I am playing a 4-2-3-1 formation, and all my goals are coming from the '3'. (Douglas Costa, Cazorla and Gervinho)

But I want to get my striker helping with the goals, to provide more dynamic attacks. So how would you play Giroud when he is on his own, with no wingers (Both the Costa and Gervinho are set to Inside Forwards!)

Obviously, he would normally be played as a Target-Man, but I tried that and because of my short passing style without much crossing he isn't really getting the supply a Target-Man needs. I'd think that an Advanced-Forward would be best for the formation, but this doesn't really suit Giroud.

(I also have Podolski, but since his attributes only really match that of a Poacher, he is on the bench (Because Poachers don't generally work as a lone striker, do they?)

  2. Poachers actually do work, i am playing Jelavic as a poacher in my Everton save and he bangs them in!

Basically have the default settings, have a look at Raikan's tac and it may give you an idea.

Well at least that gives Podolski a way into my team, but Giroud wouldn't be a poacher anyway?

  4. giroud scored 30 for me in the 1st season played him as a poacher in a 4-2-3-1 with both wingers set as support and the passing style to more direct.

  5. Giroud is fantastic for me. Cazorla and Gotze (he's only 29m in the first window- bargain of the decade, even at that price!) feed him lots of through balls, and he scores a lot from crosses.

I play him as Deep Fwd- Attack, and have him as target man, Mixed suppy- which means if the keeper does have to hoof it, its to him, and he wins the ball in the air a high percentage of the time.

So, don't give up on him- maybe turn his dribbling, through balls and creativity down- let him focus on finishing and winning flick-ons
    Leydorf likes this.

I just realised I hadn't set him as to be the target man (*Facepalm*) and I'll try him as a DLF and see how it goes.

    Cheers mate

  7. In my first season i got Falcao so i never really had the problem but giroud still scored a great amount of goals, he was the perfect super sub for me. When it looked like i wasn't gonna get anything from the game i would send giroud on as target man and he always managed to score. If possible make him your back up striker and use him as a super sub

  8. Haven't bought anyone yet (just finished 1st season). 4-2-3-1 with Podolski/Gervinho/Rosicky Walcott/Ox as IF's, Santi/Jack as AP's and Giroud as poacher. Pathetic start (2 points in 4 matches) and then complete ownage with Giroud scoring 33 goals in 35 games. Some weird games took place, like 5-6 with Swansea (when losing 5-1 after 1st half O_O) with Giroud scoring 5 goals in a row.

Finished 1st in league and reached semi-final in CC (got kicked out by Dortmund). So I guess Giroud is god (and overrated in this game actually, judging by his perfomance in real Arsenal).

I sold Giroud long ago, in a part exchange for Falcao (Who has also been crap for me, so clearly it is my tactics (I use a different now but goals still come from the attacking midfielders), but just like to point out that Giroud has probably been Arsenal's 2nd best player this year (After Santi!)

  10. Giroud is so OP in this game it's unreal, I don't see how you're not getting goals from him! When I was France manager, I used him as a Target Man (Support) and he scored 15 goals in 8 games for me! All World Cup qualifiers!
