Anyone tried out Arsenal?

  1. Anyone tried out Arsenal?

    Hey,

Just wondering if anyone's tried out Arsenal?
Are they any good? Also I know Ox's potential will be amazing but is his current ability any good?
Is Giroud any good, I think he might be useful to use as a lone striker in a 4-3-2-1 or a 4-2-3-1 with inside forwards supporting him as he'll probably have good heading and finishing (I assume) to knock in the simple goals. Are any tactics working well for you?
Sorry for all the questions, I'm just putting off pre-ordering and playing the beta till my coursework is done.

    Thanks in advance!!

  2. Ox is pretty good atm, accurate to real life. Wilshere slightly underrated atm IMO and Giroud is pretty good although I've only played him as a sub he's scored 3 goals.

  3. Can you or anyone that got the beta FM 2013 post

the Arsenal 1st team Players Screenshots?Like cazorla, arteta, Podolski, gibbs, mertesacker, giroud,

wilshere, diaby, gervinho, ox. thanks. i would like to see their stats improvements.

  13. im gutted about the reserves and youth only akpom is 4 star but his composure is 4 which is just shocking

  14. Miyaichi has 4-star potential, unless you're counting him as technically part of the first team. He looks promising.

Also, I have no idea who has fixed ratings and who's being generated with negative PA, so I could have gotten a bad roll of the dice on some of them. Maybe there's still hope.
    Dridge118 likes this.

  15. Cheers for the screenshots. The left back ratings are pretty shocking, I'm thinking of trying to bring in Baines and keep Gibbs as cover. Another CB for back up/rotation, possibly a DM and exploiting Ba's £7 mil release clause.
Anywhere else that you've noticed need strengthening.

  16. Playing as Arsenal at the moment, personally Giroud is really hard to get the best out of. only scored 5 in 18 app's all comps.

    Transfers ;

    Out:

    Mannone - 1.4m Udinese
    Santos - 6.5m Benfica
    Djourou - 5.25m Ajax

    In:

    Butland - 7m Birmingham
Fierro - 5m Chivas (As good as he was in FM12)
    Ryan Gauld - 525k Dundee
    Yann M'Vila - 17.5m Stade Rennais
Schmelzer - 7.5m Dortmund (Always thought he was a good player for Dortmund IRL and his stats never showed it on FM but FM13 he's a beast)
Pires - Free (Always sign him and get him to tutor the young AM's)

I'm struggling to get the best out of my Attack and Midfield but my Defence are good, Diaby is finally as good as he is IRL but also as injury prone which is another thing, most of my key players get Injured although not unrealistically which is a positive
    Dridge118 likes this.

  17. I'm also playing as Arsenal. Playing my second game now. I finished my first season and wasn't really feeling it. I overpaid for some players (Fellaini and Adrian) so I decided to start again and it's been much enjoyable since.

    Tactics:

4-2-3-1 (GK, LB, RB, CB, CB, CM, CM, AML, AMR, AMC, ST)
4-3-3 (GK, LB, RB, CB, CB, DMC, CM, CM, AML, AMR, ST)
3-6-1 (GK, CB, CB, CB, LWB, RWB, DMC, AMC, AMLC, AMRC, ST)

    Transfers:

    Out:
    Chamakh - Lille 3m
    Arshavin - Juventus 4m
    Squillaci - Valencia 500k
Pohjanpalo, Gregoritsch and youths all loaned out for first team action.

    In:
Joel Pohjanpalo - HJK 200k (one of my favourites - couldn't get Demirci who I like also).
Michael Gregoritsch - Hoffenheim 2.9m (only young - to replace Giroud if he isn't performing after 2-3 seasons).
Moussa Sissoko - Toulouse FC 14m (my favourite Vieira replacement - Diaby is too injury prone in the game).
Stevan Jovetic - AFC Fiorentina 12.5m (first was listed for 25m then when he got injured it dropped and signed him on deadline day).

    Main 11:

    ------------------ Szczesny ------------------------

    --Sagna -- Koscielny -- Vermaelen (c) -- Gibbs--

    ------------- Sissoko ------ Arteta -----------------

    --Walcott ---------- Cazorla ------------ Podolski--

    -------------------- Jovetic --------------------------

    Bench / rotation:
    Mannone
    Mertersacker
    Jenkinson
    Santos
    Wilshere
    Ramsey
    Chamberlain
    Gervinho
    Giroud

    Always injured:
    Diaby

    Ignore/don't like:
    Fabianski
    Djourou
Rosicky (I actually like them all but game time is vital for youngsters and lots of players always coming back from injury too).

All who will be leaving at the end of the season. Chamberlain to inherit #7. Ramsey to inherit #8 when Arteta gets too old or retires. I'd also like to try save my money to buy back Cesc Fabregas and convert Wilshere into a winger like when he was in the youth sides. I know he has the #10 but I'd like to eventually make the perfect 4-3-3 with Ramsey, Fabregas and Sissoko just bossing the show and Wilshere, Walcott and Jovetic finishing teams for fun. Already got big plans for Chuba Akpom as well as Serge Gnabry. Trying to sign Luke Shaw is difficult but I sense I will have more luck in the second season along with a better backup keeper (I always fail at finding the right balance of back up keeper and someone who's good so I stick with what I have... I ain't paying 7m for Butland who in 2 season will complain that he isn't playing first team).

Apologies about the lack of screen shots -- I prefer to type shit out as they get all a bit same-same.

    FM is my life

Might have to check him out!!

  20. I was thinking of a 4-3-2-1 With a flat 3 in the middle of AP, BWM &CM auto/support. Reckon that would work out?
Is wallcot any good on the wing? His stats don't look too great.

  21. walcott has never had good stats

How good is he? I'm yet to start HJK save which I do every year.

I know, but he always seems to be rated so highly by scouts, not even just his PA, usually his CA is pretty high too :s.

Really good! 11 goals in 18 games on loan for Barnsley in the npower Championship and stats are rising considerably.

Walcott is EXCELLENT at least in the Beta. Kills teams on the wings and gets loads of assists and goals. I use him and Wilshere and also Gervinho and Chamberlain on the wings and always switching and play some really good "football"

I'm really annoyed Jenkinson isn't rated 4-star potential. Eisfeld and Bellerin deserves to be a lot better too!

He is rated on his last year's performance. If he keeps this current form up he will likely get a CA/PA boost on spring update.

Here's to hoping! I really like the lad and like that he's cheap. I always add the main European leagues and try get players like that instead of paying inflated fees (you can tell I'm an oldschool Arsenal fan lol). You should also check out Muhammed Demirci from Besiktas. He has fantastic stats for technique (19), dribbling (16), creativity (16), first touch (14), passing (13) and flair (16). His lowest stats that could prove a problem are off the ball (8) and finishing (9). Work rate, concentration and bravery will go up as he's only 17.

I'm really wanting to start a new game with Fenerbahce and Turkish national team when the actual game comes out. I feel as though there is a lot of potential there for some fun seasons with a 15m-25m budget and maybe even sell off Kuyt and all the has-beens after the first window and start over with youth (I so badly want to find a Nigerian like Uche, Johnson, Okacha and all the brilliant footballers my generation grew up supporting)

  27. walcott destroys teams atm with his pace + broken ME crossing. he's scored some ridiculous goals on his own as well

  28. Haven't played as Arsenal but I did just play them in the COC (I'm Charlton), and Chuba Akpom scored 2 goals, with Jenkinson coming back to haunt us with 2 assists! Think I might put in a cheeky loan bid for Akpom lol.

12 games 9 goals 7 assists in my second season. He is an FM13 (Beta) god!!! lol. I really do hope they fix the bug which might make it easier not to concede them too so it's fair all round.

Charlton have Serge Gnabry in my game and is assisting for fun. Akpom is 4-star potential with Arsenal so definitely recommended to try get him on loan for a couple seasons and hope he doesn't sign a new contract.

Also AFC fans should be happy that Joel Campbell looks like quite a player!!! Not "top 10" but definitely could work the famous "Solksjaer role" and be world class at it... off the bench!

Yeah M'Vila is worth it, he holds the midfield perfectly. Shame the cross glitch is about otherwise he'd probably have a better average rating.

  31. I sold Walcott to Chelsea in my save for 25m. Also it seems Akpom's stats are random? I started two different saves with Arsenal and the one time he had 14 dribbling 8 finishing the second time they were both 13.

    My transfers were:
    Walcott - Chelsea 25m
    Chamakh - Lille 6.5m
    Djourou - Forgot Who 6m

    In:
    Sidney Sam - 5.25m
    Simon Kjaer - 4.5m
    Ademilson - 5.25m
    Jetro Willems - 10m

  32. Walcott can also be sold for 45m (US).

Jovetic always asks for a transfer so thats awesome.

    M'Vila is well worth it.

Cabaye is AMAZING as a DLP.

Ademilson and his roughly 9m(US) fee is great cover for Giroud (who i have a great deal of success with).

  33. Quote Originally Posted by mwhitehorn07 View Post

That's good to hear. He's a class act and I can definitely see him fitting into Arsenal IRL and doesn't want obsessive wages or agent fees. I just got offered Joe Hart for 14.25m! LOL! I don't think I want him to be honest - Szczesny has 7 clean sheets more than him!

  34. Started an Arsenal file myself too. Haven't lost a game yet after about 5 league games (including a game vs. Utd at Old Trafford).

    Transfers in:

Sofiane Feghouli (Valencia) - 9m euros
Abel Hernandez (Palermo) - don't remember at the moment
James McClean (Sunderland) - around 6m euros
Marcos Alonso (Bolton) - around 3.5m euros

    Transfers out:

Andrey Arshavin to Atletico Madrid (loan)
    Marouane Chamakh to Inter (loan)
    Andre Santos to Swansea (loan)
Sebastien Squillaci to Lille (1.1m euros)

    Main tactic:

    4-2-3-1

    GK: Wojciech Szczesny (GK-Defend)
    RB: Carl Jenkinson (FB-Support)
    RCB: Laurent Koscielny (CB-Stopper)
    LCB: Thomas Vermaelen (BPD-Stopper)
    LB: Kieran Gibbs (WB-Attack)
    RCM: Mikel Arteta (DLP-Support)
    LCM: Abou Diaby (Box-to-Box)
    RW: Theo Walcott (W-Attack)
    CAM: Santi Cazorla (AP-Support)
    LW: Gervinho (W-Attack)
    ST: Lukas Podolski (P-Attack)

Counter-attack tactic (vs. teams that I think are better than us for now):

    4-1-4-1

    GK: Wojciech Szczesny (GK-Defend)
    RB: Carl Jenkinson (FB-Support)
    RCB: Laurent Koscielny (CB-Stopper)
    LCB: Thomas Vermaelen (BPD-Stopper)
    LB: Kieran Gibbs (WB-Attack)
    CDM: Mikel Arteta (DLP-Support)
    RM: Gervinho (W-Attack)
    RCM: Santi Cazorla (AP-Support)
    LCM: Abou Diaby (Box-to-Box)
    LM: James McClean (W-Attack)
    ST: Lukas Podolski (P-Attack)

Once Sagna is back from injury he'll be 1st choice at RB and Wilshere will probably be 1st choice at CM alongside Arteta, though Diaby and Ramsey have been pretty good for me.

Walcott has been coming on as of late too, locking down the right-wing spot, while Gervinho has been my best player so the other wing is undoubtedly his. Giroud has been hard to get to play well so far.

Mertesacker and Koscielny alternate at CB next to Vermalen based on my opposition (if I'm playing someone like Crouch then Mertesacker will get the start, but most times Koscielny will start).

  35. are people developing their own tactics for Arsenal. I was attempting to use Goals Galore from fm12 but I cant seem to beat anyone with arsenal. After 3 months im in 11th.

The southampton save i started was much more successful with the old tactic, climbing as high as 5th in december.

Any suggestions for great youngsters in the side?

    Anyone sold gervinho?

  36. Started a new Arsenal save after the Beta was updated and we just seem to be very inconsistent.

    Transfers In:
    Danny Simpson - £2.9m
    Demba Ba - £7m
    Gary Medel - £13m
    Marcel Schmelzer - £6.25m

    Transfers Out:
    Sebastien Squillaci - £925k
    Andre Santos - £4.3m
    Johan Djourou - £5m

Medel and Ba have proved to be good signings, whereas Podolski and Koscielny have been dreadful so far.

  37. had a go with them and was very inconsistant but won the FA cup but 7/8th in the league. Much more success with Chelsea but really want an Arsenal save to work!

  38. Playing one right now. 1st after 2/3 of the season. Have only lost 2 games in the EPL, to Reading and Everton, Man city is 2nd only 4 points behind I think. Lost to Man U in COC semi final, still in FA cup and am against Montpellier in the champions league knockout. Got through group stage winning 4, drawing with Redbull Salzburg and losing to Schalke, other team was Udinese I think. Playing 433 with DM. Closing down wingers/fullbacks. Dont need to mark them. Barely concede goals. Scz has most cleansheets in the league over half my games. Closedown/tightmark any AMC imo as well as any striker you think would be dangerous in the air. Have your fullbacks runoften/hug line, works great imo. Alaba voted worlds best left back as well because of this style.

    Key Signings/Departures

Out: Santos, Djourou, Squillaci, Arshavin, Gervinho, Chamakh, Mannone (plus some minor players)
In: Alaba, M'Vila (xfer list by request, same as Jovetic), Jovetic, Ademilson, Kovacic, Okore, Hiljmark, Adryan, Mattheus

    Scz
    Sagna Kos Verm Alaba
    M'Vila
    Wilshere Arteta
    Walcott Cazorla
    Jovetic

  39. 4-2-3-1 mostly, sometimes change to 4-1-2-2-1 against stronger teams, now in November 2012

I must greatly thank for the transfer stuff in this new FM, it allows me to save a lot of money and arrange acceptable exchange offers, which are really working, but somehow it creates too much transfer listings of good players, what is good for business and makes me happy, on the other way it is a little bit strange, how it works novadays everybody wants to earn money and play in the first team... I like it very much, especcially, when you got more great players of the same class, who develop really good just when they play, no matter where, and who you can choose from like Maher/Kovacic and the system, where even the great clubs could be beaten by a smaller ones

other info: interesting, but Chelsea is loosing lot of matches, PSG and Bayern play not like real giants for now, ManU and City in the mid table together with Liverpool, the main rival is Tottenham, Barcelona is unstoppable with Messi, Real not so good lets

come back to my Arsenal story,
after signing af all possible best Backroom Stuff on the market

GK: Szcesny(really need a better keeper I think, Ter Stegen, or the best would be Neuer right now injured for 3 months at Bayern, but will try to get him, my previous option was always Lloris, but he seems not to be the same this time and in Tottenham...

    DR: Sagna
for now, Jenkinson is not bad, the same with Wallace, will try to find somebody from younger stars soon and sell Sagna in summer, Walker would be great option, but you know...Tottenham
DC: Koscielny and Vermaelen are doing a very good job at the moment, have exchanged Merte (great ex for Pato+7M), just managed to get Sakho (ex for Giroud+11M) when unsett, PSG is not playing well for now, and I think its a little bit overpayed, but ok, there is nobody better at his agedef. next targets: Jones, Zouma and Varane would be great
    DL
: just managed to get Alaba (19M) for summer, Gibbs and Santos are scrap, just thinking aboout backup (Digne?, Sandro?...)

MCR/sup-aut.: Ramsey is ok, needs time, Wilshere seems to develop great, but don´t know how to use this position properly, playing as CM/sup or autom. but ´they don´t produce too much
MCL/DM-D: M´Villa as usually, I think I made a good exchange, when he was unset., they wanted still more than 16M, what I think was too much for an unset. player, so tried and succed with exch. for not needed Chamakh+11M(but costs almost +50k in salary to pay every week to Chamakh), as backup wanted Kara, but I didn´t find any club for permit, so he went to SLB I think, now he costs about 10M

AML/IF: Podolski, not bad, will sell him sometime, J Rodriguez(ex Gervinho, who is now playing really well for Porto), but I still think it was a good business to get him right now, anotherway I would never get so much money for Gervinho to buy Rodriguez for cash
the best piece of business for now: Götze for the next season (14,5M+Djourou), really really happy about it
would love to get Hazard for that position, Chelsea is underperforming, but he doesn´t want to negotiate for now

AMC/AP: Wilshere, Cazorla is great, Götze next season, Rodriguez rotation
AMR/IF: Wallcot plays mostly very well, but I see Chamberlain as a great future for that position (just don´t know if I could get him to perform better as a winger, or just IF)

ST/Poacher: Pato is great for now, Wallcot as sub, Giroud is exchanged, but made couple of good perf., I have tried to get unset. Leandro, and almost got him, before update came out, I have a 21,5M bid accepted, but didn´t save it and now I can´t get him lover than 27M, so another option would be Neymar but still to expensive, Lukaku seems not to be as good as before, I need to think about it...

some next targets: Lamela seems to be great option for AML, is currently unset. but they want 21M, I think it is too much, will try to get him cheaper, Ocampos and Andrade seem to have bright future, but there is even another striker I would be interested: Rodrigo. Kovacic or Maher everyday, just want to let them play in their leagues for another year, and trying to find a backup for MCL/DM and probably RB

another options, like Sterling, Iturbe, Niang, Fierro and lot of others need to develop, and when they agood enough, I could buy them either, but can´t play them all at once so its better to let them be for now

Why'd you sell Theo? Despite the fact that it's looking like he'll leave in January in real life, he actually makes a decent poacher in the game. But then again I have heard good things about Ademilson. How many goals has he scored for you so far?

Just finished the second season and retained the Premier League crown! I've finally taken the time to get some screenshots together and share some thoughts.

    SEASON 2012-2013

    Transfers

    In:
    Marouane Fellaini (Everton): £23.5M
    Wellington Nem (Fluminense): £3.5M
    Zakaria Bakkali (PSV): £600K
    Leighton Baines (Everton): £18.5M (January)

    Out:
    Andrey Arshavin (to Juventus): £1.8M
Sanchez Watt (to Crystal Palace): £150K
    Conor Henderson (to Hibernian): £525K
Sebastian Squillaci (to Olympique de Marseille): £1.2M

    Thoughts

I feel too many people are succumbing to the temptations of the transfer market. Big changes really aren't necessary; the squad starts in very good condition, needing only a couple areas addressed. Fellaini has been a vital purchase, and Baines has been crucial as well. Demba Ba is a good player but overrated and completely unnecessary; re-signing Walcott is a much higher priority. If anything, I somewhat regret signing Wellington Nem, who is good and promising but has played too little to warrant even his modest sum. (So little, in fact, that he's demanded a transfer in the second season. We'll see.) Winning the league over Sp*rs on goal difference was deeply satisfying.

    Thoughts

Much tougher season, owing to a vastly improved league all around. (Note the 20 points between 6th and 17th, compared to 36 in the first season.) Still, it was a success, thanks to Llorente finding his feet relatively quickly (at least, once I finally sorted out my tactics properly). Martinez was a luxury purchase for the future, Schurrle and Jovetic were finally too cheap to pass up after months of unsettling them, and Lisandro Lopez (the other one, not the Lyon player) was brought in hurriedly on deadline day after Koscielny went down for 4 months. Huge thanks to Monaco and Fulham for the insane amounts of money they offered for Djourou and Park respectively.

Highlighting the importance of keeping Walcott, he won English Footballer of the Year in 2013-2014 after a devastating season. For his part, Llorente won English Players' Player of the Year. Special mention to Olivier Giroud for his fantastic stats despite me benching him for nearly the entire second half of the campaign.

    Going forward

My main transfer target this summer is a successor to Sagna. Assuming I don't chicken out over his steep wage demands, I'll probably get Danilo from FC Porto. Martin Kelly is cheap, home-grown, and tempting, but his injury history is worrying. After RB is sorted, I'll probably focus on a LB to take over after Baines; I may well raid Porto a second time for Alex Sandro.

Two full seasons finished, 120 hours played, and the game isn't even properly out yet. Absolutely loving this year's edition.

  42. What formation/role did you use to get the best out of Llorente?

Getting him on a free for Chelsea. Maybe didn't really need him as Neymar has been amazing for me, but couldn't pass up on a free transfer.

  43. Formation: Primarily a 4-2-3-1 with CMs and wingers, sometimes a 4-5-1 (or 4-1-2-2-1) with a DM, two CMs, and wingers. Very rarely a flat 4-3-3 with a couple poachers beside him.

Role: Primarily Target Man - Attack, with his Creative Freedom turned down to about five clicks from the left. (Haven't experimented enough with exactly where to place that to say for sure, though.) Often, though, I like having him set to Advanced Forward in the 4-2-3-1 if I want to keep the ball on the ground.

We did struggle for a little while at the beginning of the season, and I thought my usual struggles of playing with a Target Man would make him a bad signing, but he became class after a short time.

  44. Did you set him as a target man in team settings?

I've been playing a 4-2-3-1 with CMs and inside forwards cutting in from the wing, with Neymar as advanced forward and team set to drill crosses.

Have been wondering how I might need to tweak things for Llorente and whether he had the pace to operate in the same way, or whether to try and adapt to take advantage of his height and aerial ability.

  45. Yes, set him to Target Man in settings, and you absolutely have to Float Crosses to him as his pace is an issue otherwise. In fact, his speed is worrying enough that I've taken to increasing his mentality nearly all the way to attacking, and generally tweaking him so he doesn't try to roam everywhere.

He wins every header, though, so he's fantastic at knocking it down to Inside Forwards, whether they're coming in from the flanks or through the center. In fact, I'm dropping my flat 4-3-3 this year in favor of a narrow 4-2-3-1 with 3 AMCs, which will give Llorente more targets to choose.

I have to say, I've played speedy tactics for years so using Float Crosses with a slower TM feels awkward to me, but he's so good that I can't complain. If you have Neymar, I'd recommend having separate tactics (one quick for Neymar, and one slower for Llorente) to choose between based on opposition. That said, Neymar cutting in from the left wing with an imposing TM up front would be superb, I'm sure. (A similar tactic worked brilliantly for me in the second half of the second season, with Jovetic instead of Neymar.)

  46. really good read mate, but im having a stinker in my first season, cant beat the likes of stoke away, reading and norwich at home!!

what tactics and formation did your use, do you have screen shots? many thanks

  47. Here is what I did on the transfer market

  48. I take it those of you are selling Gervinho, Chamakh, Arshavin and so on are just telling them to shut up when they say they don't want to leave.

  49. in light of Wengers recent comments about Podolski's culture shock I found this quite amusing....

  50. I've fallen victim to the age-old issue of signing too many strikers in your first main attempt at any new FM game...

I play a 4-2-3-1 and Giroud tends to lead the line and he's been doing alright in his debut season.

But I splurged on signing Jovetic for £18m (spread over 48 months)
I've just confirmed the free transfer for Llorente (joins in the summer but kind of planned on selling him ASAP for profit anyway)
And I've had a £28.5m bid for Falcao accepted too... delayed for a week as I juggle what to do with so many strikers and only 1 place. I'll probably confirm just because I can really...
Then theres Cavani who is transfer listed for £20m... bought him in previous FM so I've witnessed first hand how incredible he is.
I've also got Podolski, Walcott and Insigne who are all rotating either upfront or on the wings. Ademilson has been shipped out on loan to Udinese but he seems to be struggling there.
