Fm13 in comparison to Fm12: Please read before complaining
Page 2 of 2 FirstFirst 12

  1. For the people who complain about the ME not being realistic.

I'm an Evertionian. Everton 1-2 Reading at the weekend.

We dominated the first half, should have been 3/4 nil up at half-time. Second half, Reading came out, changed their game plan and exploited us, winning in the process. Admittedly I was gutted, but i reasoned "hey, that's football, fair play to Reading".

But, if that happens in FM13, (which it does, its happened to me in my save), I see people posting on here going mental saying how the ME is flawed and they're rage-quitting, never playing again etcetc. It baffles me.

I admit, i was complacent in FM12, i'd turn up to a match, play any team out of my first squad and win 2/3-0. But now people actually have to use their brains and put some thought and management into it, they throw their toys out the pram when they're not getting the wins they want.

I love the new FM13 for what it is, yes it's a bit rough around the edges, but what a game we have!! Hopefully this patch will quieten the majority of the haters because frankly FM13 is a billion times better.

  2. When's this patch people speak of and how is it predicted to help the current predicament?

This is copied from the discussion board of SIgames, originally posted by the moderator PaulC:

For those interested, we have the following in testing with a view to it being released sometime in the next week:

    Match v1316
    -----------

    - Fixed bug causing players to occasionally react too late to pass
    - Improved pressing of opponents slightly
    - Made players more willing to go for a riskier interception if ball receiver is in a goalscoring position
    - Tweaked keeper positioning when facing down attacker
    - Reduced pointless passing slightly
    - Fine tuned chance of speculative passes slightly
    - Refine kick innaccuracy algorithm slightly

    Match v1317
    -----------

    - Fixed defenders not turning quick enough when tracking player running onto through ball
    - Reduced likelyhood of players making pass when in clear cut shooting position

keep it up mate, you're onto something

  8. I'm not to big of a fan at the moment. Your team never seems to do what you've planned them to do. For example i set up my team to play fast short passing attacking football, Only for them to hoof it up field every time they got the ball. plus your team hardly ever get shots on goal even if you've got them switched to attacking . That and keepers just letting the ball go in the net when they could of thrown a cap on it. Finally cm's refusing to pass the ball and just mill about until they get tackled or fouled. Going to give it a chance but if thing don't improve I'll flog it and stick to fm12

Well, playing short passes while playing at a quick tempo is not easy, only Barcelona really master it in real life. Quick tempo is more appropriate to use when playing a direct style, and slow tempo is more appropriate to use when playing a short passing style.

Also, playing attacking football is not necessarily synonomous with getting lots of shots on goal. Your formation and the opposition's formation play a huge role here, not to mention their strategy and tactical approach. Do they have a DM cancelling out your AMC? Do they have full backs that only defend, thus limiting the impact your wingers will have on the game? There are so many factors you must look at, just like in real life. You can't just throw 11 good players out on the pitch, ask them to play quick with short passes and attack the opposition, and expect to get lots of shots on goal and win every game. For that, you need FM12.

  10. One BIG thing I've noticed. The more I try to tweak individual player settings the more unreliable my tactics become. In other words, stick to a basic tactic creator tactic. The one I'm using now I've only changed the width setting and ticked counter attack. I'm playing FMC. Outside of team talks and OIs I don't know if it makes much difference

  11. Raikan is it better to create a new tactic for every team you play or stick to 1 tactic? Im having no luck what so ever using the same tactic

  12. Hi Guys, just out of interest, when the new patch comes out will I have to start a new game or will the changes be available in my current save?

Depends on the players in the team. You have to have players that match the way you want to play.

As long as there are no database changes, you don't have to start a new game.

  15. Hey, is anyone finding it harder to sell players? Well I have Pablo Aimar and Carlos Martins to sell and they're devaluing and getting worse and worse and I can't seem to sell them even in the first season!

Players getting old and subsequently declining in quality, with high wages and getting little playing time? Not really attractive purchases, am I right?

If only I could say the same. Unfortunately we actually have to debate theories using our own words

  25. Very good points made RAIKAN mate.

FM 2013 is great, better than 2012. Actually the last 3 versions were so easy, playing quickly became ridiculous (if enjoyable), whereas the current version is much more realistic and engrossing.

  26. The ME on this game is totally messed up. The opposition keeper has even caught the ball behind the line and no goal is given. it's not the tactics I've played FM since FM10 I know how to work tactics. Tacticial changes seem to have no effect at all your team just carry on hitting the ball as hard as they can. They also seem to do anything to avoid having a shot on goal. Unless they bring out a patch to fix this I won't be buying any other FM game.

  27. been playing the game a couple of weeks now and after much pulling of my hair and much throwing my arms in the air in a hissy fit i think ive cottoned on to what si were trying to achieve this year, wanting players to manage their teams rather than finding a decent tactic and sticking with it all the way to glory, so ive kinda got what im doing now but still seem to be struggling to break teams down i can pass and defend all night but cant find those killer balls (even as man city playing against chinese opposition) so if anyone has any ideas of what i could try next id appreciate it

  28. After giving it more time I'm now having some success. Partly down to learning from Raikan's adjustments to his tactics. But the passing is still woeful at times. Also still having a lot of offsides that are not anywhere near being offside. It's still making me have slight FM rages with players deciding to pass the ball even when faced with a clear scoring chance. The most frustrating of these being having caught the oppositions keeper out of position, the striker decided to ignore the tap in into an open net, instead opting to stand waiting for support so he could put in across the box lol. The ME also allows the oppositions keeper to pick the ball up behind the line and not give a goal seen this a lot.

those are what we are all mostly dealing with mate but we have accepted it lol, which I still think is BS from SI to be honest.. but, it will eventually get sorted out with new patches

  30. This is the model in ALL of gaming, not just SI with FM.

The development cycle is such that the first version of the game is essentially a beta. The players test the game and in 4 months most things are fixed. But then the "improvements" made to the game for the next edition seem to break the game. Over the course of a few years, those improvements are really great improvements, but from year-to-year it can feel like regression.

For me personally, there are a few things about this game that are gigantic upgrades. I LOVE the new training schedules. Playing with sliders with essentially no clue how they worked underneath the hood was maddeningly dumb design. I'm glad they went away from it. I train my players almost exclusively using role training (focusing on a combination of a players best and worst roles in order to mould them into a well-rounded player as much as possible).

The transfer deadline day interface is immensely fun and informative and really has helped immerse me into the world of my save.

And lastly, I personally think the Director of Football and Head of Youth Development positions, along with increased ability to delegate, are great additions as well.

All of this is making me take less time to perform certain activities, and doing more of the parts of the game that i find fun; buying/selling young players, building the team from youth, and scouting. I'm not a tactician, I like being a team-builder, and the tools for this are much improved.

I have an Aston Villa save where Im about 20 years in, and I have won 13 titles, 13 Champions Leagues, insane amount of cups etc. And I didnt win a trophy for the first 3-4 years.

I never change tactics, I never use shouts, I rarely even change the attacking philosophy during late stages of games. I just buy all the top young players around the world, use the good ones, re-sell the ones who dont turn out as expected and re-sell any that pass 28 years old.

I have a ridiculous stadium, I have £600m in the bank and Im the richest club on the planet by a mile.

I cant take all the credit though, I honestly think that Modern Warfare 442 is borderline cheating!

  32. I was given FM 2013 as a birthday gift after whinging about how much I miss playing FM (my last FM was 2011, before then played the last 5 editions before that). Now I am the type of manager that like to pick at every thing and micromanage. The number one frustration I had with prior versions of FM is that micro-managing was not neccessary and to an extent a lot of the micro management was simply to please people like me.

Now with FM 2013 it is a must and make people have to pay attention through all details of the game. It has tested my micro-management levels to the limit and I love it, especially with the addition of player roles and seeing how you plan tactics in player roles have an impact on the field. It is amazing when you take an Australian team to the World Club Cup and draw with the likes of Chelsea in the semi final. We lost in extra time but the shouts I made caused Central Coast Mariners to level the scores by full time considering we were 2-1 at half time.

The only thing I wished FM13 has and for that matter a future edition of FM to include is the ability to choose sponsors, like the old LMA Manager series allowed team to negotiate sponsors from the boards on the side of the stadium to what is placed on your jersey.

  33. I'm so lost... I Can't figure out the training and all the other new features like scouting.. And what's with the chief scout and managers for reserves and u/18??? Can someone please explain a little? I playd Football Manager before and had no problems.. But FM13 is just a bit too overwhelming..

I was also a bit overwhelmed with the new features, but now I'm used to it i'd never go back to FM12.
For the training, there is no longer the option for custom schedules, which is one thing I miss from FM12 as I preferred to make my own schedules, instead you select pre-made schedules which can be determined by the players best position, although I sometimes change these as each schedule doesn't always train in the areas that I want to increase.

The chief scout gives you the option to assign them the task of being in charge of all scouting assignments, while I have a chief scout I prefer to set the assignments myself. To add a new assignment you simply go into the 'scouting' section then 'assignments' and there you will see a list of your scouts on the right hand side where you can view reports from current assignments or set new ones.

The reserves manager will also coach your first team and the u18s manager will coach your under 18s, other than that they just manage those teams, unless you choose to do this yourself. I tend to look for attributes similar to those of my assistant manager, although it's almost impossible to get a really good u18s manager.
