  1. The Better Halfsīs Narrow 4123 - Set of 4 versions

    The Narrow 4123

Notice that this is just a beta, just like the game

    THE VERSIONS

Personally, I use this set to suit my managerial preferences. In some saves, I focus on building a team that relies on quick breaks that uses players with good stats in Strength, Aerobic and Tactics. Here, I am more likely to use COUNTER and OVERLOAD. In some saves, i try to build a team that focus on on passing and possession, using players with good stats in Tactics, Ball Control and Attacking. Here, I will be more likely to use ATTACKING AND CAUTIOUS POSSESSION

    OVERLOAD
Attacking, quick, direct with the aim to overload the opponents defence. We play with a really high line of defence and when getting into possession, the ball is quickly played onto our advanced.

    ATTACKING POSSESSION
Here we play attacking with lots of width with the aim to drag the opponent out of position and make them loose their defensive shape. Possession ?. Well this is the aim anyway. Its not your ordinary possession tactic that produces lots of passes or 75 % possession though. In fact, none of the versions do. To be able to use the most of the pitch we not only use lots of width but also the length of the pitch, hence the slightly deeper d-line than your ordinary possession tactic The aim is to approach the opponent with the ball and drag them out of position by player movement with AND without the ball.

    COUNTER
Quickish, direct and one the counter. Here, the aim is to exploit an already open space rather creating one.

    CAUTIOUS POSSESSION
Here, the aim is to keep the ball by playing slow and compact, players evaluating every situation one more time before making an easy pass to a team mate. Here, its not about scoring many goal but to control events on the field that we otherwise would not be able to control. Never mind a poor shot on target ratio. It basically happens instead of us loosing the ball in dangerous positions

    THE PLAYERS
    Central Defenders-Nothing special

Fullbacks - The better the team you are, the more complete they have to be. Almost like Box2Box Wingbacks

    DMC - Anchorman/ Defensive Mid/Ballwinner

    MCRight - Creative passer/Deep Playmaker

    MCLeft - Hardworking Box2Box

    FCRight - Inside Forward

    FCCentral - Advanced FC/Poacher

    FCleft - Inside Forward

Started a new save with Forest ( my 2nd with them in FM13) So far, so good

  6. hi TBH. I've been trying to emulate a successfull fm12 tactic i had that played 4-3-3 in fm13 with my newly promoted wolves team. I've had mixed results, standing in a very good 5th place at the beginning of febuary, although im not yet happy with my tactic. it is very inconsistent. i've managed to shut down united away and have lots of chances, but then at home to west brom i create nothing and let the opponent get quite a few shots no goal. I've also found that my wide strikers bsometimes come back at half time with 6.4/6.3 ratings or have cracking games. I too made my tactic in classic. I have defensive full backs, because they aren't very talented, then 2 defensive ball winning mid-fielders with a mildly offensive playmaker in the middle. Up front i found that opening my strikers out on the wing permitted them to help when defending, closing down the fullbacks, and with the cut-inside feature still pose some danger in the area, however this might be why they also under-achieve sometimes. I then have a "run onto ball" target man who receives through balls from the wide players or the playmaker. This seems to work, but just isn't convincing me! I've tried everything, varying positions and mentalities and am baffled at how inconsistent this all is and that, although im unhappy about my performances, i'm still in fifth, not far from 4th and 3rd!!! lol i should be happy, but i want more! your tactic looks interesting. are you happy with it? have you tested it further? im at work now, but when i get home im probably gonna give it a try.

ps - you might say my tactic is inconsistent because im always changing it around, but i've deliberately been running "test saves" with about 10 game runs with different variations of the tactic to test them out. sometimes when i find something that works, as i continue to use it it starts underperforming. would you attribute this mostly to the ME?

    thanks for your time

  7. HI TBH, have you had any more recent results with this narrow 4123? i had a look at it late yesterday when i got home, but didnt get round to testing it. i noticed your two wide strikers had very different settings, didnt expect that! do you think you can elaborate on what u expect to get out of each position? just so i can see if they suit my players. thanks

They basically have different settings to more dimensions into the game. I state that I use inside forwards but you can use advanced playmaker AMC/FC players to. To have the best result, make sure that they complete each other.

  9. I used this tactic in my first season with Bradford, I was top of the league on many times throughout the season and it was so tight between either winning the league and losing it all and missing a play off place. My worry with this tactic is how many goals I conceded and going into league 1 I don't know whether Bradford will be able to outscore the opposition as we did in league 2.

I mainly used the counter attacking version as my starting tactic as this is what got me the best results. Using the other versions during my season often resulted in losses or draws in games I should of won

Most of the times when playing down the league system, the players are just not good enough to play a possession based approach ( attack and cautious) so I am not surprised that the Counter version ( relying on speed and strength) is the one that got you this results. As a newly promoted team, I would still use this formation given that it still suits your squad. If you on the other hand manage to sign wingers of league one ( or higher) quality, I would use my 451 instead. In the end, it's about playing to thev strength of the team .
