    The Narrow Diamond

Plug & Play Tactic by The Better Half

Plug & Play, does it still exists ?

Yes and no. In no means are they as deadly as in previous versions when one could simply download a tactic that exploited the flaws of the match engine, but one can still use one. Here, the trick is to use players that really fit the tactic. There are no compromise, the players simply have to be able to perform in their roles and don’t have conflicting ppms or stats that undermines their abilities. Its also important to use players that by ppms moves between the lines, like one FC that likes to beat the offside trap and one that likes to come deep to get the ball, play with back towards the ball etc.

As every formation and approach has its strengths, it also has it weaknesses but here, I have tried to make sure that the approach is balanced enough to be able to get result against any kind of philosophy. Naturally, you can still loose or win against any team on any given sunday and if failing to get control of the dressing room, one is in for trouble regardless of tactical approach

Also remember that Tactics means only so much. If the opponents players are having a better day than you, your players reacting bad to conceeding an early goal or that they simply are out of form or confidence, then one will loose 9 out of 10 of these matches.

    The Tactic

Actually, this is one of my old tactics form FM11 and so far, it has been working even better than in this old edition. As you see in the screenshots, its made with the Tactic Creator meaning that it can be used both in FMClassic and in the Full game. As most of the TEAM settings have been tweaked, it means that shouts have very little influence although IT IS possible to play more Cautious by switching to DEFENSE and use “take a breather” as well as using ATTACK and “ pass into space” to be able to push forward. Its also possible to use “ Hassle” .

What to expect of the Tactic.

To be able to really enjoy the game, its important to evaluate the squad to know what to expect of the season. If you for instance have defenders lacking in anticipation, then you will see playuers with high Flair setup by players with high creativity scored goals. If you have defenders with poor concentration, you will see them giving away soft goals if you yourself fail to score, just like you will see many defensive errors if your defensive players lack in Technique, First Touch and Agility. Here, you simply have to embrace it as a part of football, forget the last match and prepare yourself for the next

    The Width & Strategy Tweaks
As we play compact within a narrow formation, it means that the central area will be crowded. If playing with a Team like Man U, it might be better to increase the width to the first notch of Wide, atleast home against teams likely to flood the midfield. Away to Barcelona, I would use the narrow setting though. If going for this tweak in some matches, I would re-save the tactic and upload both to the match prep to ensure that your team gets fluid with both settings. The same goes applies if wanting to change strategy to Attack or Defend. Re-save under a different name and upload it as the third tactic and use it when in need of a goal.

Naturally, this makes it less plug & play, but I prefer to use more width against lesser teams and switch to Defend to see out games.

    The Players

    Central Defenders
Nothing fancy. Jumping, Heading, Positioning and Anticipation is far, far more important than Pace and Acceleration

    Wingbacks
They huge the touchline and gets forward. If having very limited players or are facing world class
wingers, just change them to Fullbacks/support or Defend

    DMC
Here is a player that should stay back at all times.
Plug & Play - Narrow Diamond by TheBetterHalf-dmc.pngPlug & Play - Narrow Diamond by TheBetterHalf-dmc-stats.png

    MCRight, The Playmaker.
Here is a mixture between a Deep, Advanced Playmaker and a B2B. He sits deeper but moves forward into channels. If he is having a poor game or is simply not good enough to actually be used as the main
focalpoint, then just tick the playmaker box and set it to "none"
Plug & Play - Narrow Diamond by TheBetterHalf-playmaker.pngPlug & Play - Narrow Diamond by TheBetterHalf-playmaker-stats.png

MCleft, The B2B slash Central Mid
I would probably look for a complete MC without any too attacking or cautious ppms

    AMC, The Attacking AMC/FC
This player acts more or less like the Forwards Its crucial that he does not dwell on the ball or is too weak
Plug & Play - Narrow Diamond by TheBetterHalf-amc.png Plug & Play - Narrow Diamond by TheBetterHalf-amc-stats.png

    FCright –Support, FCleft – Attack
These two players actually swap position. One moves forward more often and one tries more t-balls. Here, I like to use one that like to come deep and one that is more of an advanced FC/Poacher type of player. You can use almost any kind of player here. It’s the way they complete each other that is important.

    Match Prep:

    I Personally don’t touch it

    OI´s
I never focus on more than 4 players in each match as it otherwise might disrupt the our game plan and tactic totally.

    By Positions
Lone FC in a 4141: Close Down Always
AMR/L with defensive fullbacks: Show inside
AMR/L or MR/L with overlapping fullbacks: Show down the line
Advanced Playmakers: Close Down Always, perhaps specific man mark with the DMC
Deep Playmakers: Show onto weaker foot, Close Down Always, perhaps specific man mark with the AMC

    By Confidence

Nervous: Tackle hard, Close Down Always
Injuried players: Tackle Hard, Close Down Always

    By Stats

Central Players with Great longshot: Close down Always, Show onto weaker foot
Wide players with great crossing: Show onto weaker foot

    Results

    1st season Top Teams
Tried it with United ( 9-0-1), Arsenal ( 7-3-0) and Chelsea ( 8-1-1), rotating the squad and letting the assistant manager pick the team and do the press conf, team talk etc.

Looking forward seing more of your results, good or bad.

I am actually trying to retrace all my plug & play tactics from FM11 to se if they work just as well as this one. So far,I have managed to find a Deep 4231, an asymmetric 442 and one Wide Diamond as these where attached to my posts in my FM11 thread. Still about 20 more tactics that I so far cant find as the links have expired.

  9. AC Milan - Lots of purchases and a talented youthful squad.

    10 Games - 4 wins 6 Losses

I noticed a lot of yellow cards
and a lot of injuries (8)

Didn't really work for my team got majorly outplayed by minor teams even.

    Thanks anyways
