Back to the big boys League
    A Wolverhampton Wanderers Story

"What was wrong with Kenny Jacket?" is the words on everyone's lips.
The simple answer is, nothing. He decided that his time in professional Football Management was up.
After watching a few too many games of Starcraft II at MLG, he decided he wanted to go into E-Sports; ironically choosing Football Manager 2014 as his game.

Leaving Steve Morgan with the dilemma of having to appoint a new manager for the club.
Languishing in League One after a disastrous 2012/13 season, ultimately resulting in relegation for this former Premier Division club while every Tom, Dick and Harry with 2+ brain cells would be jumping at the chance to manage this great club.

  2. Good luck with this story. Will be following, I managed Wolves from 2013-2019 in my main save so will be curious to see how you manage the team

I've never managed Wolves before. I started a new game last night and remembered Wovles's shock relegation to League One and thought "Hey, that could be a fun save!"

I'm planning on a solid 4-4-2 with the Youth Academe providing for my future needs. I'd be a fool not to utilize the facilities and the 2-3 years It'll take to get back to the premier division. Plenty of time to blood the kids in the Football League.

Wolverhampton appoint John McDermot from within.
The Irishman formerly held a Senior Coaching position at the Wolves academe and has been offered a short 12 month contract subject to review.

Widely seen by the media as "Only a Caretaker Manager", this move quoted by sky sports as "An exercise in steadying the ship" so Steve Morgan can find a Long term replacement".

    Pre-Season schedule announced

    Sat 6th: Auxerre ( A )
    Tour of Northern Ireland
    Thu 11th: Portadown ( A )
    Mon 15th: Glenavon ( A )
    Thu 18th: Ballymena Utd ( A )
    Tour Ends
    Mon 22nd: R Standard de Liage ( H )

The first 4 games will be used to experiment and test different
starting XI's while the home game will be the decisive pre-season test.

    Signings

I will be making no signings. The squad here is very strong with a good balance.
Plenty of young talent that, If blooded, could carry us back to the premier League.
I'll reassess in January but I think I'll finish the season with the same squad I started with.

I'm ruthless with my transfers; if they want to leave, I'll be playing hard ball, Brendan Rodgers Style!
Still, I'm not that worried. I'm already prepared to let Kevin Doyle. He has 2-3 young strikers ready to take his place and 38k a week wages are not something I'm in a rush to hold onto.

A very good tour I felt. Vastly outclassed these sides but i got to see just how
devastating this team can be when we get on top of teams.

Jake Cassidy and Leigh Griffiths are laying early claims to be my starting pair up front.

Delighted with this result. Jack Cassidy continued his fantastic pre-season form and got us a big win against a good side.

Solid Start to the season. Conceding only 4 goals; 3 of which came on a disastrous 3-0 loss away to Preston North End. A good recovery has seen this young Wolves side mount a serious bid for the League One Title.

An late injury-time equalizer rescued a point for Bradford, meaning I go into November 2nd in the table.
A game in hand gives us a small cushion but I never like to reply in game in hand to carry us over the line.

Yeah, this squad is tearing apart League One but The Championship will be difficult with the better sides. Consistency will be key.

7 goals in 5 games earned the 20 year old Welshman earned a contract extension, which will keep him at Wolves until 2018
Great Pre-season form and a return of 10 league goals in 14 league appearances have created a selection headache for John McDermot. With the club's four strikers currently playing at the top of their game, choosing who gets game time is a task not envied by many.

    Kevin Doyle:
    4 goals, 5 assists; 13 games

    Bjorn Siguoarson:
    3 goals, 3 assits; 9 games

  16. nice job mate, my first eleven is something like this at the time - Hennessey - Foley(cpt.), Sandberg, Coates (loan from Liverpool), Briggs - Kempe, Will Hughes (loan from Tottenham), David Davis, Sako - Sigurdarson, Cassidy. Among substitutes: Ikeme, Jack Robinson (loan Liverpool), Doumbia, Margreitter, Stearman, Doherty, Hayes (from Aberdeen), Tony Watt (loan Celtic), Griffiths etc. I use Jassar Modern Warfare tactic (best tactic, all credits go to Jassar, thx mate).

GK: Jak Alnwick (Hennessy wanted out so I did a player exchange for Alnwick)
    RB: Kevin Folet (Cpt)
CB: Danny Batth & Dedryck Boyata (On load from City; 0.5M buy clause)

CM: Kevin McDonald & David Davis
    LW: Bakary Sako

The long awaited deal for 20 year old English Goalkeeper, Jak Alnwick was completed on January 1st, 2014.
McDermot has plans of Alnwick being his future No.1 but even the most optimistic of fans could not have expected what happened next.

Jak was only hours into his Wolverhampton Career when he was called upon after an injury to 1st team Goolkeeper, Carl Ikeme, in the 13th minute forced McDermot's hand. Away at Tranmere Rovers, Alnwick belied his 20 years of age to confidently save a 40th minute penalty

With Ikeme sidelines for 2 weeks, Alnwick was getting the No.1 jersey far sooner than anyone had expected.
One of these games was the FA Cup 3rd Round Reply Agasint Wigan. Again, Alnwick shined from the spot. Saving a penalty in open play and when the game went to Penalties after being 1-1 at 120mins, Alnwick saved 2 penalties to help his side to a big win in the FA Cup.

    Game of the Month
This was a tough one to choose between. The two contenders were the
Wigan FA cup replay or the 7-0 demolition of Preston North End.

In the end, given how important the result was, I've gone with...

    Carl Ikeme

Ikeme was appointed First Choice Goalkeeper after Wayne Hennessy was submitted a transfer request and was dropped shortly after.
Preforming well in the team, he's been safe, solid and strong in the air to limit the damage to only 21 goals put past him.
    Jak Alnwick

Singed from Newcastle United in a player exchange (Wayne Hennessy) deal, 20 year old Alnwick was thrown straight into first team action after Ikeme was injured just 13 mins into his first game on the Wolves bench. Alnwick seized his chance and has make himself un-droppable: Making 32 saves, keeping 3 clean sheets, saving 4 penalties and conceding just 6 goals; all in just his first 9 games.

    Ethan Ebanks-Landell

The young Center Back has held himself well in his few outings. Quick, tall and only 21 years of age, he's definitely one for the future though first team outings have been limited to only 16 appearances as he's stuck behind the solid Boyata-Batth partnership.
    Dedryck Boyata

A loan signing from Manchester City, No one guessed just how influential he would have been to Wolves Promotion bid. With an agreed loan-fee of 500K, this man could be on the verge of making his move permanent. Very Strong and a Belgian Cap to his name, Boyata struck up an immediate partnership with Danny Bath; only conceding 24 goals in 27 games the pair have started together.
    Danny Batth

No one would have guessed this man was only 23 by the way he has lead the defense. Acting as the covering arm of the back two, he's be very solid in his 37 appearances and even chipped in with 9 goals. Expect to see Danny at the heart of the Wolves Defense for many years to come.

    Sam Ricketts

One of the more senior members of a young wolves side, Ricketts has found himself down the pecking order. 5-6 poof performances made McDermot question his first team credentials and has only been using the Welsh International as a Back-up option.
    Paul Robinson

Singed as cover for the Left Back area, Robinson has done okay in his few appearances for the club. While not lighting the pith on fire, he's not underproformed either.
    Matt Doherty

The Young Irish Right Back has recently been given a run int he first team and has impressed. Chipping in with 1 goal, his force has been felt defensively down the right, winning 148 tackles, ensuring his marked men don't get a chance to cross the ball.
    Kevin Foley

The Wolves Capitan has had a good season so far. Though his appearances have not been as high as they might out to be; being rotated with Matt Doherty.
    Scott Golbourne

Golbourn was a new man at wolves, having been signed for 0.5M before McDermot arrived. Scott has been a regular at Left Back this season after a string of important performances.

    Jamie O'Hara

Only just returning to the side after 16 months out. I'm expecting him to be sold during the summer since he's submitted a transfer request.
    Keith Fahey

Signed to add experience to a young and inexperienced midfield. Capped 16 times for the Rep. of Ireland, he's done a good job in midfield and showed the boys what needs to be done.
    David Edwards

Another player that's expected to be shipped out durig the summer. Having submitted a transfer request, The Welsh International's first team football has been sparce as a result.
    Kevin McDonald

Sined for 250K before McDermots arrival, the scottish centre has provided the club with a solid Deep-lying- playmaker. Comfortable both going forward and defending.

    James Wallace

A product of the Everton academe, McDermot signed the 21 year old English Midfeilder fromm Tranmere for 500K. Seen as a complete footballer, Wallace has the ability to play in the premier league!
    David Davis

The Heart of the Wolves Midfeild, Davis is the player livenced to get forward and link the wings, strikers and midfield. with over 1500 compleated passes, Davis is a creative outlet for Wolves.
    Lee Evans

Seen as one for the future, the 19 year old Welsh man should be getting more game time next seaosn as 2-3 players leave the club. An exceptional Passer with good vision, McDermot has high hopes Evans could be the most spanish-esque welshman he's ever coached.
    Albert Torras Crespo

A bit of a hidden gem, this spainaird has produced some solid displayes in the first team matches he's been given. Seen as one for the future, McDermot has hopes he could be a good premier league player.

    James Henry

This kid has impressed me, I mean really impressed me. He was on loan at wolves and quickly became my first choice right winger. Quick, strog and skillfull as well as having a pin-point cross. Singed for 1M in the January Transfer Window
    Zeli Ismail

Young, skillfull and ambisios, I've had to rotate Henry to make sure this kid develops into the top class winger he's destined to be. At only 20 years of age, I'll be making sure he's ready to dominate the Premier League in 2-3 years time.
    Michael Jacobs

Another on loan winger, this young english man was making it hard not to pick him. After a great start to the season, making the most of Sako's injuries, he earned himself a 500k transfer to the club. Sadly hoever, he's not played well since the move became permenant.
    Bakary Sako

Strong, quick and with an eye for goal himslef. Injury delayed his start to the season but now that's he's fit agian, the 25 year old french winger is pretty much unchallenged for the Left wing possition since Jacobs fell out of form.

    Jake Cassidy

This young welshman put down a marker of his ability! at the half way point, he's just 2 shy of 20 goals in all comps. At only 20 years of age, he's not one for the future, he's one for right now!
    Kevin Doyle

Expected to leave the club during the summer. . I've no problem letting him go but he's not going cheaply.
    Leigh Griffiths

What can I say, the man is a machine! He is the clubs top goalscorer in the league with 17 goals and at only 23 years of age, he's only going to get better.
    Liam McAlinden

Frustrated by his lack of first team football, his moral is shot to shit and has been hard to manage. He's a good player, oodles of potential but he's stuck behind 3 players in form and no-one seems to want him on loan.
    Bjorn Sigurorson

In any other League One team, he'd be a star. unfrontunatly, he finds himslef behind Cassidy and Griffiths. Quick and creative, he's provided more assist than goals thios season.
