A journey with the worst football manager player ever...

  1. A journey with the worst football manager player ever...

    Hello,

I thought I would give a laugh to some people and show you all how bad I am at football manager. However close this game is to my heart; I suck at it. I suck at tactics, I such at coaching, I suck at signings. I often barely pass christmas before I give up on a save...

What I plan to do on this little adventure is to start a new game with reputation as 'Sunday League Footballer', start as unemployed and go from there. I will try my best to actually win and do successful, but through the 3 years I have been playing this game I can tell you, that isn't going to happen.

Here we go, and hope you enjoy the ride! (hands and legs in the carriage at all times)

Without hesitation he hops on the first plane to Portugal. Let's hope the interview goes well... It did!
The first job for Sam Brown in European football, he is on cloud nine and ready to tackle the Portuguese Second League.

    Promotion, here we come...

P.s If I have formatted this wrong/if there is a better way to do it, let me know! ...or if you don't like this idea.
If it's alright, hope you all enjoy and peace to all good men on earth.

  2. Format is alright, writing with pictures is what most people on these forums do anyways. Also don't be so bad on yourself. You can get better. Just need spend more time looking at the tactics others use and try and implement them in your own way. 4-2-3-1 is the most popular choice.

For story purposes it's understandable but easiest way to get better is by actually managing the bigger teams. Maybe a team like Porto or PSG would help. You've probably tried all of this already but I wanted to give you some advice if you needed it

  3. I'm quite glad to see someone who is as open about being not so good at the game like myself. I recently started a story and people will now see how bad I am also. So I will follow this and see where it ends up!

  4. I think the formatting is good you might want to center the text though.

  6. Sam met with the chairman, assistant manager and various other staff. As part of his hiring, he had been given the job to create a team with a direct and attacking philosophy. After discussions with the backroom staff, he had learnt that apparently 4-1-2-1-2 and 4-2-2 diamond are the best for the team. Sam preferred the look of 4-2-2 diamond and as well as a the trusty 4-2-3-1 (thanks duzzy)

He could see (as well as being told by staff) that Ginho was the best on the team but there were also a few other decent players.

These were his chosen formations. 4-2-2 diamond and 4-2-3-1 deep. In Sam's mind, he had a formation for beating weaker teams and a formation for defending against stronger teams but didn't know in the slightest if he was correct. He also went online to ask a forum for any advice on making these formations stronger/correct (help guys) as well as what individual instructions he should give to his players (cheers)

Anyway, he coached them to learn the new tactics intensely.

After the whole 4 games in the pre-season, it looked like the team were adapting to the new tactics ok; 3 wins and 1 loss. Sam thought to himself, 'I hope this translates into competitive matches.'

His first 3 games were in the League Cup 1st Round (Group C). Would he be able to top the table?

After a loss in his first game, he thought that this campaign was already heading downhill. In the next game, he changed tactics and, after an intense game with a red card and an injury time goal, he claimed a win (get in). It all came down to the final game. Sam used the same tactic again, this proved successful and U.M claimed a 1-0 to come 2nd (joint first really, but i'm still happy either way) and moves into the 2nd phase of the League Cup.

Now... Onto the league itself... (eastenders ending theme tune)

  7. I like it mate, i will follow!

  8. I will be following, as stated above don't be 2 hard on yourself mate, these games take time (and bloody loads of it) to get the tactics right...it will come you just have to persevere.

  9. Best of luck to you mate! I've just started my first story so i understand the difficulties you feel but don't worry about how it ends up cause in hindsight you can just start a new story

  10. After his 4 wins and 2 losses through pre-season and the league cup 1st round, Stunned, Sam stumbled into his first league game and onto the year ahead...

Admittedly, it is only because no one else has played. But U.M dominated in their first match, beating Chaves 4-1. Can this season make it look like Sam is actually a manager that has fluked a good tactic?

    No. No he has not.
After 6 more games and extremely angry and confused to why his tactic suddenly stopped working, Sam follows his assistant managers advice that 4-1-2-1-2 would be a better formation. He tries to make it quite an attacking one again, and this time adds in individual instructions to see if that helps (but it probably wont).
During these six matches, the team has been hit with some bad injuries and suspensions.
Not a great season overall really (definitely because of the players and not the manager...)

    This doesn't help either.
Sam has been summoned by the chairman, but using his gift of the gab persuades the chairman to give him more time.

Will Sam get his 9 points in 5 games? Will he get the sack? What will he do after?

Find out in the next episode (post) of 'A journey with the worst football manager player ever...' (dramatic music)

This has been a spectacularly bad campaign. As I have said, Im bad at this game but I didn't think I was this bad. I don't know what happened. (this has to be some record for quickest sacked surely?)

    BUT ONWARDS AND UPWARDS

    ...and onto the next job...

  12. NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO OO !

  13. sorry that was a bit dramatic ......
looking forward to your next adventure

  14. THE COMEBACK (possibly)

After a few months of holidaying and applying for jobs. Sam manages to get himself a job at Hoogstraten in the Belgian Second Division. After two failed interviews with lesser clubs, Hoogstraten who were 4th in the second division made a very controversial (great) decision to hire Sam.

Sam arrived and was soon to realise there wasn't much left. There were no coaches and no assistant manager, just a friendly goalkeeping coach. This made it tough for extremely amateur manager Sam Brown; but he knuckled down and tried get this team promoted.

Sam chose this tactic because he liked the look of it. It was attacking just how he liked, he tried to make the team a quick passing team. But, there were many injuries, and there was just about enough players to create a full roster. After a couple days training session, it was onto the first match, and the road to promotion (...)

...there may actually be a chance of promotion.
After losing the first game, Sams in-game reputation was showing already but he stuck with the tactic and won 3 on trot, leaving Hoogstraten in 2nd place and in the play-offs (wahoo).

Sam also signed a new assistant manager. Karel De Smet, Age 33. This helped a great deal.

    NEXT TIME: THE PLAYOFFS...

  15. I'm from Belgium! :p
I really love your story mate, a good old journeyman save!

i'm also doing a journeyman save, maybe you could give it a read and give your thoughts?

  16. Unfortunately, Hoogstraten couldn't quite make it out of the Belgium Second League. Their playoff campaign started well but quickly went downhill due to injuries and fitness problems.

Sam was happy with their final position of 2nd in the league though and focused his attentions onto the next season, aiming for promotion once again. It's going to be a long summer of hard training and preparation.
