Coker Takes Charge at Sheffield Wednesday

Sheffield Wednesday today released a club statement regarding the future of manager Stuart Gray:
"We would like to thank Stuart Gray for his services to the club and the enjoyable times he brought to the club over the past 12 months. However, Stuart and the board have both decided he isn't the man to take this ambitious club forward. Young manager Owen Coker is the man whom we have chosen to help take this club to the heights it should be operating at."

We comfortably outscored all of our opponents however there will be a significant different in the quality of team we play in the league. Also, we leaked goals against teams we shouldn't have.

All of our signings can pretty late in the transfer window. I was waiting for some of the deadwood on higher contracts to sell so I could sign some higher quality players to push towards the top end of the league. A generous £1.2m offer for Nuhiu couldn't be turned down as we already have an abundance of strikers. Signed Graham Shinnie from Inverness CT to replace the outgoing Helan and I replaced the loanee Will Keane with another loan in the form of Sam Gallagher from Southampton. Finally, we signed Christensen from Chelsea to cover at both centre and right back.

What a start to our campaign. Only the 3-3 draw with Derby on the opening day blemishing our perfect record. We had a tough first three fixtures against teams looking to challenge for promotion. A Sergiu Bus brace and late Maghoma pen salvaged a draw for us after being 3-1 down at half time. We followed that up with comfortable win against Tranmere in the Capital One Cup. Back to the league and Chris Maguire double sent Forest packing. We then thumped Norwich with May, Keane and Maghoma all getting on the scoresheet. Millwall were next to feel the wrath of our ever improving attack after they went down to Bus and May goals. We then managed to edge past QPR at Loftus Road! Sergiu Bus bagged one on the counter late on after we were dominated all game. We ended the month with another emphatic win, smashing Bolton 4-2 with Bus grabbing all four! After such a great start I'm looking at play-offs as a minimum. Everton next in the cup. Can we keep it up?

It could only go to one person with Sergiu Bus averaging over a goal a game and clinching Championship player of the month. Way ahead of the competition in the goalscoring charts after scoring 8 goals over the course of the month. Looking forward to seeing him and Stevie May forming a clinical partnership to drive us forward.

After a phenomenal first month my expectations were sky high. However, we returned from the international break only to be shocked by Wolves at home. We followed that up with a disappointing draw against winless Leeds with Henry scoring his first for the club. Our only win came against Blackpool and even that game could have gone either way with only Sergiu Bus saving us. The highlight of the month was taking Everton (who are 3rd in the Prem) to pens. Liam Palmer and a Distin OG took the toffees all the way. A reasonable away draw against Middlesbrough follow before a dissapointing draw against Huddersfield. Our form will have to be more consistent if we're going to have any chance of promotion.

Nobody really stood out in a disappointing month. However Kieran Westwood pulled of some good saves and kept us in it against Everton in the cup. He was the only thing stopping our defence looking awful.

Only four games this month due to an international break where both May and Shinnie made their debuts for Scotland. We bounced back from 3 winless games by thumping Rotherham. Two from Maghoma and one each from Bus and Lee securing the win. Another two from Maghoma helped us on our way to successive wins against Cardiff. We suffered just our second defeat at the DW against Wigan despite Gallagher's first for the club putting us ahead. We responded with a comfortable win and much needed cleansheet against Ipswich. Pretty good month leaving us firmly in the promotion chase.

Only one contender. Scored 4 and set up 2 in his best spell for the club. His terrific form saw him claim Championship player of the month. His terrific form sparked interest from Newcastle but we immediately tied him down to a new contract.

Another fairly solid month picking up crucial points against teams strong teams. In another month disrupted by an international break we began with a 2-1 victory over Charlton thanks to two goals from Segiu Bus. Henry then scored an important equalizer against play-off chasing Blackburn before a injury time goal from Gallagher earned us a point at Fulham. After two weeks off, Maghoma and Henry both struck twice against Bournemouth before we lost to a late goal at Reading after Maghoma and Bus put us ahead twice. Lack of clean sheets is becoming a worry but hopefully the arranged transfer of Danny Wilson from Hearts will help us tighten up at the back. However we're still hovering around the automatic promotion spots.

Our most expensive summer signing is beginning to pay off. 3 goals and numerous assists across the 5 games saw him stand out. However Bus and Maghoma both pushed him close.

Unbeaten all month! We began with a edgy 2-1 win over Birmingham with Maghoma and May grabbing the goals. We then threw away 2 points conceding late on to Brighton after we lead twice through Maguire and a Stockdale OG. We then beat fifth placed Brentford comfortably thanks to Maghoma and May. We then demolished forth place Watford, with two goals from Bus sending us on our way. We finished the month with another game at Brentford where eased to a 3-0 victory. Our first clean sheet in 10 games! Some great results leave us top on goal difference and in with a great chance of promotion.

It had to go to Maghoma again. He made his international debut in November and has since bagged 5 goals in 5 games and has become an integral part of our side. Hopefully he can continue his form and fire us to the Premier League.

We began the month by scraping past MK Dons, requiring Paul Corry's last minute winner to avoid a replay. We then lost away at Derby. 3-0 down at half-time Maghoma and Henry gave us hope but we couldn't find an equaliser. Sergiu Bus and Tom Lees secured us a win against Forest before a Bus hat trick downed Norwich in the FA Cup. Just three days later we face Norwich at Carrow Road in the league. It was 1st vs 2nd. We threw away a 2-0 lead from Bus and Lee but it kept us top. We finished the month with a comfortable win against Millwall despite them scoring to penalties in the last 10 minuites. The league is getting tight at the top but we're 13 points clear of 7th place. We've drawn Liverpool at Anfield in the FA Cup.

Danny Wilson joined after agreeing a deal in November. We then snapped up McGugan for just £100k due to a clause in his loan contract. Leigh Griffiths then replaced Sam Gallagher who returned to Southampton before we replaced Christensen with Harry Maguire from Hull. Zayatte, Melo, Dielna and Madine all left permanently with numerous youngsters also going out on loan.

What looks like an average month isn't actually too bad considering our top scorer Sergiu Bus was ruled out for 4 weeks. A disappointing start against Bolton despite Griffiths getting his first for the club. Then a top of the table clash against Wolves where we recovered from 2-0 down thanks to two Maghoma goals. Then the big FA Cup game where we twice lead against the Premier League leaders! Maguire's two goals weren't enough to see us through. Our first win of February came against Leeds where Maguire and Griffiths earn't us a win. Then came two disappointing draws against bottom half team but we finished with a win over Huddersfield where May bagged his first goal in 11 hours of football! At the end of February were out of the automatic promotion spots on goal difference. A final push through the last few months and we could be seeing Premier League football next season.

A number of players picked up several goals but narrowly ahead of Leigh Griffiths it goes to Westwood. He kept us in games against Wolves and Liverpool and made crucial saves in other games aswell.

We've really stepped it up ready for the run-in. We began with a comfortable victory over Rotherham thanks to Maghoma, Hutchinson and Lees. Then Maghoma and Griffiths gave us a win at Cardiff. Wigan, who beat us earlier in the season, went down to McCabe's first goal of the season. Maghoma scored for the fifth game in a row to gives an easy victory over Ipswich. We then thumped bottom of the table Charlton despite being down to 10 men after just 20 minutes. Bus, along with May and McCabe, scored to gibes us victory. Norwich and Wolves both slipped up this month leaving us 5 points clear at the top.

Since signing permanently in January McGugan has gone from strength to strength. He picked up 5 assists this month but is yet to score all season. Probably been our most consistent player since Christmas. Stevie May ran him close however bagging 4 in 5 after a lengthy drought.

We did it! We continued our fine form into April, beginning with a dominant win against Blackburn where Griffiths bagged two goals. Then Fulham fell to Bus and Griffiths goals before our first loss in 11 came away at Bournemouth. We lead comfortably until Lees saw red. A late May winner saw off Reading and then McGugan's first of the season secured victory at Birmingham and the league title! A rotated team comfortably bean Brighton with youngster Stobbs fresh from a loan at Scunthorpe bagging his first for the club. We ended with an eventful draw at play-off side Watford with Griffiths and Maghoma aiding our recovery from 2-0 down. Our defence certainly seemed more assured this month however Bus has gone off the boil since his injury. We comfortably won the league after Wolves and Norwich continued to slip up. Here comes the Prem!

At the start of the season I was aiming for the play-offs, maybe scraping into the promotion places. Yet we far exceeded them expectations, finishing 8 points clear of Norwich. We had some great start to the season, setting the pace for everyone else. We drifted of a bit between September and December but just 2 losses after Christmas and both Norwich and Wolves dropping points we ran away with it. Bagging nearly 100 goals fired us there despite our defence looking sketchy at times conceding over 50 goals. That is an area for improvement for next season. I am hoping to comfortably avoid relegation and consolidate our position as a top flight team. A cup run would be nice too.

Some much needed defensive acquisitions were priority and the permanent signings of Harry Maguire and Virgil van Dijk show our intentions for the coming season. We fought off interest from several top sides across Europe to sign young midfielder Nocolaj Thomsen from AaB. We brought in youngster Todd Kane from Chelsea to rotate with Liam Palmer at the back. Some sporadic first team member left on a free and numerous youngsters left on loan. Danny Wilson and Shaun Hutchinson are currently transfer listed and haven't been registered for the coming season. Hopefully we can raise some funds to further develop the squad in January and push on in the league and FA Cup.

Starting the season against Arsenal was never going to be easy by we should have won. James Henry's early opener put us ahead and we had numerous chance to finish the game. We didn't take them and Welbeck and Schneiderlin punished us late on. We bounced back with a solid away performance at Newcastle. We followed that up with a comfortable Capital One Cup win over Birmingham thanks to two Stevie May goals despite conceding 2 late on again. Arguably our best game came against Villa where we were 2 down after just 15 minutes but Henry, Maghoma, McGugan and Griffiths turned it around to give us an emphatic win. Keep up this form and we'll be looking up the table not down.

This team continues to amaze me. Albeit we started with a disappointing home loss to Stoke where only Stevie May's 3rd of the season gave us something to cheer. We picked up our second successive away victory and clean sheet against a strong Palace side. Next, a Liverpool team who beat Man City 4-0 away at the start of the season! We clinched a 2-1 victory thanks to May and a injury-time Griffiths winner. How far can we go. Leicester away next in the Capital One Cup. We finished the month with an emphatic away win against Swansea thanks to Bus, Griffiths and Harry Maguire. This season just keeps on getting better. We currently sit in 4th with Man United to play next month.

We had some tough fixtures this month. We continued our fine form against Norwich with Griffiths and Maghoma getting on the scoresheet. Then our toughest game yet against Manchester United at Old Trafford. We created chances after conceding early on but we just couldn't find the back of the net. Palmer and May put us two goals up against Everton but they fought back through Lukaku who grabbed a hat-trick. We advanced through to the quarter-finals of the Capital One Cup after demolishing Leicester with Bus finally getting a goal. We ended the month with a disappointing loss to Tottenham after draw for so long thanks to Stevie May. We've been brought back down to earth but we're still perched in the top half. Both Lewis McGugan and Sergiu Bus have interest from top sides and it could be a struggle to keep them come January.

A short, disappointing month. We failed to score and win against and out of form Sunderland side. Then, after going behind early on a Lescott OG and Henry free-kick put us ahead before Berahino scored an injury time equaliser for bottom club West Brom. Our best performance came against league leaders Chelsea where we twice lead thanks to Thomsen and Griffiths. We're beginning to slide down the table but I didn't expect to be able to keep up our early season form.

Young Nicolaj Thomsen is showing why top clubs wanted him. So far he's chipped in with a few goals and handful of assists and has been one of our star performers. Against Chelsea he scored and won the pen that lead to our second goal.

A busy month with mixed results. We started in fine form picking up our first win in six against a struggling Leicester side thanks to May and Griffiths goals. We continued with a commanding 3-0 victory over Reading where Maghoma, Lee and Henry all bagged goals. A adequate draw at Upton Park followed and we reached the Capital One Cup semi-finals with a thumping of Forest. A brace from Stevie May set us on our way before both Henry and Palmer scored. We suffered a disappointing loss away at Southampton, going down to two late goals. Debatably, our best performance of the season saw us get victory over title chasing City. Harry Maguire headed in from a corner to give us the win. We ended the month with another two loses without scoring. First was against league leaders Liverpool were yet to loose and then a suprise home defeat to Newcastle. We remain on course for a respectable finish and and still fighting in the cup.

The most expensive signing of my tenure has been a wall at the back, helping us keep 4 clean sheets in December. van Dijk has formed a formidable defence alongside Maguire and they will be thoroughly tested against Chelsea in the Capital One Cup semis.

Another largely disappointing month picking up only one league win. We comfortably beat League 2 Fleetwood to advance in the FA Cup thanks to two May goals. We conceded two late on against Arsenal after Thomsen pulled us back twice. We threw away a comfortable 2-1 half time lead against Villa to loose 3-2. We bounced back from 5 straight league losses with a 2-0 victory against Palace with Maguire and Thomsen getting the goals. A suprise away draw against Chelsea after Thomsen put us ahead in the first minuite put us in contention for a trip to Wembley but a dissapointing 3-1 home defeat ended that. Sandwiched between those Cup semi-finals was another cup game where we progressed to the FA Cup fifth round after van Dijk, Maghoma and Cornelius gave us victory over West Ham. We ended the month with another poor performance, loosing to Swansea at home. We're now only 10 above the relegation places and need to improve our season could die out.

Nicolaj Thomsen, signed for just 2 million, has been a revalation this season and has kicked on despite our poor form since Christmas. Scoring 4 important goals this month he stood out against our out of form strikers.

We signed Andreas Cornelius to add some extra firepower to our misfiring strikers. He then got injured so we brought in Adam Le Fondre on loan to fill in. Chuks Aneke was brought in after showing terrific form in Belgium and Jonas Hector added strength to a weak position in the team. Loovens, Vermijl, Wilson and Bus all left the club.

Undefeated but still no win in the league. We scraped a draw against Stoke after Thomsen scored an injury time equaliser. We were robbed of a win when Norwich were awarded a dubious penalty after Maghoma and May put us ahead. We threw away a 2 goal lead and missed numerous chances against Man United at home. Palmer and McGugan put us in front before a Falcao brace pegged us back. Our only win of the month came against Everton in the FA Cup thanks to Aneke's first goals for the club. A week later we returned to Everton only to throw away another two points after leading 2-1 through a James Henry brace for so long. We need to start turning these draws into wins or our hopes of a mid-table finish will vanish.

Aneke has 2 goals and 2 assists in his first month at the club. He earned a call up to the Nigeria squad and replaced Maghoma in the starting XI and has become and integral member of the squad.
