"I feel the club starting to slide down a slippery path. In recent years,
we've sold players produced by the club and replaced them using the
transfer window. This is against everything I though the club stood for."

"This is not an issue of nationalism, or xenophobia. It's a matter of pride. The
people of Catalonia look at us to represent them. They see us as a shining
example of what this part of the world can be. But right now, 39% of our
playing staff isn't even from mainland Iberia; let alone Catalonia"

"We've seen an influx of foreign talent and with the traditions this club looks
to uphold, I want to introduce a new philosophy."

"When did we allow ourselves to be perverted by the Madrid way?
Signing a global superstar rather than producing our own?"

"When did we turn our back on La Masia? When did we ignore
everything our club was built on: A shared sense of family and duty."

"I won't stand back and allow this club to become a commercial bastard!"

"Playing for F.C. Barcelona is not a hobby, or a job, it's a vocation.
It's something you're born to do. Passion and pride. If you do not
have these two things, go play for Espanyol." - Javier Mendez.

When I accepted this job, the President was very expressive about the kind of
players he wanted playing for the club. He felt the footballing culture in Spain
was different from that of the rest of Europe. Technical skill, willingness to
    dribble and possession orientated attacks.

He told me that if I do turn to the transfer market, he wants me looking
in places that have a similar footballing culture; Latian America.
F.C. Barcelona has a long tradition of Brazilian and Argentinian
players, so the links are there. Respect long established between
    these footballing people

My priority for player intake is in this order
    1. B Team
    2. La Masia
    3. North-Eastern Spain
    4. Spain
    5. Latin America

If I want to sign a player before promoting from within, I'll need a
very good reason for the president to sign off on the deal.

This is exactly the sort of player I was brought in to protect and develop. A product of the youth system,
Rafinha is destined to be an important part of this side. When Iniesta retires, Rafinha will slot into that
central creative role so I'm determined to hold onto him and not loose him to a European rival.

In the first few days at the club, I've been reviewing contracts at the club. I scheduled
contract renegotiation with the agent of any senior player with a release clause under €15M. If
you're in the Barcelona first team, you're one of the best in the world. That's the philosophy at
this club, only the best play with the best. €15M is spare cash to most European clubs so I will
not have these players poached for nothing!!!

Though I do have to deal with Neymar getting injured and out for just
over a month. I have Rafinha and Munir ready and available to operate
in that front three so we're fine.

This squad is worrying me. Over the past 5 years, I've seen a slow decline in the Spanish
bias of the Catalan club. Only 38% of the clubs players were produced or trained by the
club while 62% of the players are declared for a foreign national squad. For a club that
boasts strong domestic roots and a world class youth system, I consider these statistics
    an embarrassment.

    Players produced by the club.

Neymar, Luis Suarez, Claudio Bravo and Javier Mascherano are players who fall under
the "exceptional talent" standard and I consider fair and valid to occupy a first team
place, but domestic priorities must be implemented to bring back Barcelona's soul.

Home-grown, Barcelona produced players sold in recent years.

    2015-16
Xavi, Gerard Deulofeu, Martin Montoya (Loan, clause to buy), Pedro, Denis Suarez (clause to buy back)

    2014-15
Victor Valdes, Carles Puyol, Cesc Fabregas, Jonathan dos Santos, Cristian Telo, Bojan (2nd sale)

    2013-14
    Marc Muniesa, Thiago, Andreu Fontas

    2012-13
    None

I can see a trend and I'm pretty sure this is not the route we want to go down as a club.
Too many players are being produced by the club and being sold after making it into
    the first team.

This sets a very bad example to the youth. Making it into our first team dose not
mean much if they can be sold. WE only allow the best to progress here, why
sell a world class player? Making it into our first team means you're one of the elites
    in your sport.

We need to inspire our youth players to want to be the best,
not settle for a transfer elsewhere.

  21. Loving this story and idea. Will definitely be following. You going to go in for some young Spanish talent like Muniain, Koke and Oliver? or thrust some kids into the spotlight?

Cheers mate. Glad you like the idea.

Of the three players you mentioned, Only Muniain would satisfy my criteria for singing; being North Iberian and Basque, so he'd share the I'm not Spanish, I'm (Insert non-spanish leaning region) mentality.

Koke is a Madrid born and based player so he essentially represents the "enemy" in the eyes of the Catalans.
Oliver was born in Navalmoral de la Mata, roughly halfway between Mardrid and Lisbon but he spend his entire career in Madrid, so he's Spanish, not Catalan - I'd be more open to signing him since he'd have been "brought into the Madrid" setup but he's still not Barcelona.

The Barcelona vs Spain is like a local rivarly playing out on a national scale.

If a Madrid player came through the youth system, so be it. He may not be from here, but he's one of us: He lived with us, trained with us, eat at the same table and drank from the same fountains, ect.

We had an okay Pre-season. Honestly, I believe we are better than what you're producing right now
but the squad is playing well. A blip in Saudi Arabia but it was great to see Gumbau step up and grab
a goal. He played very well in the B team last season and i'll be paying a close eye to see if there's
a place for him in the first team.

Both came on as late 2nd half substitutes. Not much to comment on bu it's always great to see new
players break into the first team. They must now maintain this level of performance and training.
The front 3's injuries allowed these two youngsters the room to come into the squad but it's now
up to them to stay here.

Quite a difficult draw but as defending champions, we have no right to think such things. We are

I decided to trust Gumbau ahead of Rakitic in midfield and he repaid my faith by scoring a goal!
I think we could have a future star on our hands here. His movement off the ball is impressive,
he links up with Suarez well and finds himself coming into the box late and getting chances!

  47. Great work in the first half of the season, looks like another league title is on the way, and hopefully a CL too!

Cheers If you get a good run of form the points start to pile in

With the Transfer ban being lifted, Alan Turan has become available to 1st team action which means
that I have 6 players to fit into 3 forward positions. I play with a varied front three

Inside Forward (support) False Nine (Support) Advanced Playmaker (Attack)
    1. Messi
    2. Neymar
    3. Suarez
    4. Turan
    5. Rafinha
    6. Munir
Bottom of the pecking order is Munir so I offered him out to get some first team football to continue his development. To be honest, I haven't been impressed with his performances in the games he's played.
He might not be at the club next year.

Sergi Roberto is a player I have a lot of hopes for. He's played pretty well in his games but the emergence of
Gerrard Gumbau has relegated Reberto to a rotation role. Gumbau has even made me consider who should get
dropped in favor of his place in the team; between Mascherano and Busquests.

Still, knowing the ability the kid has, I wanted his to be playing at the top level so a move to Bundesliga is
a fantastic opportunity for him to develop and be a valuable first team member.

With Macherano and Busquets both being Key members of the first team, Sergi Samper is finding his
first team opportunists restricted and he's too good for the 'B' team so I shipped him out to Liga BBVA side
SD Eibar. Samper has played well but when compared to the mammoth skill Mascharano and Busquets
display on a daily basis in training, he's never being picked ahead of them. T His loan is the best for both parties.
