  1. The Football Managing Mercenary

    Promotion now?

  2. Does my heart some good to see this thread back. Hopefully, you won't turn into a time lord in this instance of the game.

  3. Well Pep is on his way down and DJ is on his way up! Swapping clubs with each other soon I'm sure!

  4. Well done on surviving relegation there Jack! Great achievement. Would have been a blow to the rep to have a relegation on the CV so early on.

  5. Doing well so far, followed the last one throughout, so will definitely be following this

  6. It it helps, I couldn't have done it without them jack?

Thanks bayymatt. Glad to see you sign up. Any plans for a career?

It was rather controversially Louis Van Gall, Naterr. Probably worth more of a mention specially as he signed for only ninety grand a week.

    I'll settle for mid-table Iwabik!

Thanks jmckenzie! I'm very much hopeful myself. Only had one minor crash so far but think that was more my end then the game, no need to warm-up the time machine just yet.

    One day Dan!

Thanks alot 1magine, yeah this is actually getting off to a good start. I'm not used to it!

Thanks Saddler, glad to have you on board again!

Having scraped our way through into another season in the Vanarama National League, the transfer window presents with a much need opportunity to strengthen the club and our hold in this division.

That didn't quite go to plan.

With eight departures from the club things where going smoothly with a host of fringe and unused players being shown the door and the clubs shockingly fragile wage budget able to finally find some much needed breathing room.

Unfortunately not all the departures were planned.

Key striker and arguably the only reason we actually survived last season, Jake Cassidy has left the club.

Playing on a non-contract basis we could do little to tie the lethal finisher down, with interest from the football league soon ending any hopes of negotiating a new contract.

With our lead finisher gone, my reaction wasn't exactly well planned...

    From: Out of Contract
    Cost: Free

Yeah. I splurged. First of a host of new arrivals is teenage left-back Adu-Peprah. The former Manchester City and Newcastle trainee has found himself thrown out of the comfort of the Premier League and onto the scrap heap. A quick signing to Guiseley will be make or break for the promising defender.

    From: Out of Contract
    Cost: Free

Another signing, another defender and another teenager. Brace yourselves for the prevailing theme of this Summers window, as Joe Coveney joins his former Manchester City compatriot at the club. The solid centre-back will be in for a tough time in the brutal world of non-league football but already looks up to the task.

    From: Out of Contract
    Cost: Free

Yeah you get the idea. Teenager, former Premier League star ready to be bloodied in the rough and tumble in the depths of English football. Alex Bradley will add some much needed Scandinavian depth to our midfield, following the departure of our two former loanee playmakers.

    From: Walsall
    Cost: Out of Contract

Rory Oliver has been on the cards to join the Lions since I set foot through the door. The promising wide-man has been long wasted on the side-lines with Walsall but the want-away teenager will fit perfectly into a team in desperate need of strengthening down the flanks.

    From: Out of Contract
    Cost: Free

By this point I was essentially signing anyone capable of kicking the ball in a relatively straight line but former Liverpool prospect Mich'el Parker is actually a decent signing for this division and beyond. With some of the strongest defensive abilities in the team and the physical attributes of bruising veteran he will be crucial to this season's hopes.

    From: Bolton Wanderers
    Cost: Loan

Replacing the departing loanee Pears in between the sticks comes the son of legendary Finnish keeper Jussi Jaaskelainen. Will has been on the books at Wanderers alongside his dad for a couple of season but with the old man finally hanging up his gloves, the Finnish prodigy will be looking to emerge from his shadow with a strong season at the Lions.

    From: Out of Contract
    Cost: Free

With Cassidy sensibly packing his bags for the bright lights of the football league, I was in dire need of a proven finisher. With my only options seemingly being a Forty Two year old, Lee Trundle or a Northern Irish star in the making, I opted with the safer option. No pressure Robbie but you've got some big goal scoring boots to fill.

    From: Out of Contract
    Cost: Free

Once again I'm trying my utmost to form my attack minded Christmas Tree at Guiseley with the arrival of Canadian attacking midfielder Josh Doughty taking me one step closer to fulfilling my tactical plans. Hopefully nippy playmaker will prove to make the difference behind McDaid before I even get to implement my plans.

    From: Out of Contract
    Cost: Free

With no Keepers left in the club before the arrival of a young Finnish star, Irish stopper Tadhg Ryan arrives to add some backup should the worst come to the worst. Despite being set to spend the majority of the season on the bench, the one-time Huddersfield prospect could well develop into our number one in the very near future.

Yup. I pretty much signed every single teenager without a contract in a fifty mile radius.

It might not exactly be the best or even remotely sensible plan but with a squad brimming with potential and teenage mood-swings hopes are high that we can turn the passion into points...

...or at least that's how I'm going to justify it.

  7. An interesting window for sure, but some potential diamonds there waiting to be polished.

  8. Uhh, I hate second seasons. Hope you do fine, tho.

  9. Well I have a few ideas at the moment.

    A) Move a Premier league club down to vanarama north/south and remove all players over 18 years old and have a 5/6 year transfer ban on top is appealing to me at the moment,

    B) Taking over at Sassuolo and having a crack at Serie A

  10. Thanks Neavie, I sure hope we can get them brushed up quick.

Me too Iwabik. This should be challenging.

Good to see you get started Baymatt. Good luck with the Red Devils in the deep!

    8th July 2017

First game of the preseason has us up against our parent club Leeds. With half of last seasons team returning to the Lily Whites at the end of the season it was a chance to show them just what they missed out on, with a gutsy performance from our newly formed squad at least giving the Championship side a bloody nose on our way to an expected defeat.

    15th July 2017

We welcome Scottish side Kilmarnock to Yorkshire for another tough fixture before the season gets underway and we once again are down but most certainly not out. The boys ran the Scottish stalwarts right to the wire, with an unfortunate lapse in concentration seeing us concede an undeserved goal.

    22nd July 2017

We take a step down a division for the next game as we are held to a disappointing draw by lowly Nuneaton. The game saw a lackluster performance from my new signings with the only goal of the game coming from trialist Charlie Vernam. Despite his goal the former Ram was deemed unworthy of a contract for the coming season. Harsh.

    29th July 2017

Final game of the season has us once again up the pace against our bigger neighbors as we go toe to toe with one of the Premier Leagues new arrivals, Huddersfield. The Terriers are gearing up for a challenging season in England's top flight and a strong second half at least showed David Wagner's men are up for the fight.

With the pre-season done and dusted, my new charges evaluated and the club able to at least hold its head slightly higher thanks to some encouraging performances, this seems like the perfect place to make good on my promise and show you the formation for the forth coming season...

My 4-3-2-1 formation is still someway from completion but with the squad breaking away from the 4-4-2 that dominates the lower rungs of the English game, I can at least take some pride in breaking new ground.

With new boy Robbie McDaid taking up the reigns as the clubs sole striker, the pressure is going to be immense on the young striker and the midfield that are aiming to feed the Northern Irish target-man with a route to goal.

    In McDaid we trust...

  11. How to check manager wages?

  12. Uff, I survived first season. I secured league survival in last game (before kickoff I was 2 point behind safe zone). I hate it and I love it in the same time.

  13. Hell of a journey! My LLM has gone ok, but god its just a constant fight to get anyone interested! Good luck

  14. I do it by using the staff search area and sorting by contract and current wage. Its important to filter out any players as it will show anyone who is still a player considering being a manager. Also need to turn off any Assistant manager filters.

Good job Iwabik, glad to hear I'm not alone in my struggles in the depths of English football!

Cheers Raar. Blackmail and a good deal of good fortune should speed up the process.

    August 2017

    5th August 2017
    Vanarama National League

The new season gets off to a horrendous start as we are humbled by Dagenham and Redbridge. The Daggers showed up our inexperienced defence with a deserved penalty before sealing the victory with a late goal despite the referees attempts at giving us a lifeline with a red card just seconds from the final whistle.

    12th August 2017
    Vanarama National League

The poor start is soon forgotten as we romp to a well deserved victory against a strong Newport side. An opening header from one of the only experienced men on the field shot us into the lead thanks to Atkinsons salmon like leap but it was new-boy Robbie McDaid that stole the spotlight with his first for the club sealing the win.

    15th August 2017
    Vanarama National League

The Northern Irish future star is at it again as he thumps us into a deserved lead against Wrexham. Unfortunately the fine effort did not pick up the points it deserved as Wrexham fought back just six minutes later to tie up the game before sitting deep to defend their solitary point.

    19th August 2017
    Vanarama National League

He makes it three in three as any regrets over the departure of our former star striker Jake Cassidy are quickly forgotten on our way to a comfortable two goal win against a sloppy Southport. With the young striker in fine finishing form hope are already high that we might just be on for a season away from the relegation scrapheap.

    26th August 2017
    Vanarama National League

..And those hopes are all but confirmed as we smash three goals past a sorry looking Woking with the inform and current leading goal scorer in the entire division Robbie McDaid leading the club to glory with a confident brace. The young striker has defied his young age and lack of game-time to take the league by storm.

    28th August 2017
    Vanarama National League

The man of the moment rounds off an opening month to remember with another winning goal as we overcome ten-man Tranmere to slide our way towards the top of the table. With McDaid leading the club to a surprisingly large early points total we can already start dreaming off our play-off chances.

    August 2017
    Vanarama National League

Despite our slow start the boys have announced their arrival on the scene with some displays that showcased their undoubted talent to their cautious supporters. With my teenage signings certainly making a big impact already, I can only hope those higher up have taken note of my not at all panicky transfer signings.

  15. McDaid is on fire! Looks like you know what you're doing in the transfer market

  16. McDaid is showing that age is just a number. Lets hope that:
    a) his form continues
    b) his "continued" form isn't noticed by "bigger" clubs.

  17. He sure is Patrick. I wish that was true! How long till a new career sir?

Both points are very much at the front of my mind right now, especially with McDaid only on a part-time contract!

    September 2017

    2nd September 2017
    Vanarama National League

Our superb start to the season is brought crashing back down to earth as we are shocked late on by a fortunate Barrow. With just a handful of minutes remaining on the club our young club foolishly switched off before the whistle with the older and much more experienced Barrow club stealing the points before the death.

    9th September 2017
    Vanarama National League

These boys might be young but they are certainly learning their lessons quickly. Having thrown away points in the previous game before the final whistle we return the favor against constant stragglers Bromley with our Iranian attacking midfielder scoring his first of his career to set us back to winning ways.

    12th September 2017
    Vanarama National League

This time by the time Will Hatfield bashed home a goal with the final kick of the game the damage had already been done with the squad coming back from behind to put Forest Green firmly in their place. Canadian play maker Doughty continues to impress with a goal to set us on our way with veterans Atkinson and Hatfield joining him on the score-sheet.

    16th September 2017
    Vanarama National League

Run away leaders Eastleigh did an early number on us as they cruised into a two goal lead within just fifteen minutes with our key defender Atkinson showing his early frustration with a red card shortly after kick-off. To their credit the boys held off the impressively strong away side to limit our embarrassment to just two conceded goals.

    30th September 2017
    Vanarama National League

Having knocked on the door for the entirety of the game, we where cruelly punished for our lack of cutting edge as a late penalty was fumbled around the box before eventually being bundled into the net by the unfortunate Parker with the youngster cruelly rewarded for his encouraging start to life with Guiseley.

    September 2017
    Vanarma National League

Our stay in the play-off spots is a short one as we are knocked back down to the middle of the table. With the club only set to battle valiantly against relegation for the coming season, I would still be very glad for the season to end at this point. Avoiding relegation is most certainly a huge achievement for this little club in Yorkshire.

  18. October 2017

    3rd October 2017
    Vanarama National League

Navid Nasseri might not have found the back of the net in his first season but the Iranian attacking midfielder certainly knows how to find the back of the net when it matters. On the back of his winner against Bromley, a goal just three minutes from time salvaged a point against Sutton United in what was to prove to be a frustrating month.

    7th October 2017
    Vanarama National League

A first half of horrors saw a promotion chasing Boreham Wood storm into a three goal lead without the Lions so much as making a solitary attempt on goal. With the boys rattled a small fight-back following the break at least gave the home crowd something to cheer about in an otherwise disappointing day at Nethermoor Park.

    10th October 2017
    Vanarama National League

A goalless draw is hardly the most encouraging of fight backs following our thrashing at the hands of Boreham Wood but non the less a clean sheet and a strong defensive performance is enough for the boys to leave Chester with their heads held slightly higher then in the previous game.

    14th October 2017
FA Cup - 4th Qualifying Round

With the FA Cup coming around, the Lions are set for their one chance at making some real money this season. Unfortunately Barrow also had the same intentions. Our fellow Vanarama National side scored an early goal to book their place in the next round with a strong defensive performance dumping us from the competition at the first opportunity.

    21st October 2017
    Vanarama National League

Back to league action and the club is once again forced to settle for a goal-less draw as they welcome the far travelling Dover to the heart of Yorkshire. The usually free scoring Robbie McDaid is growing increasingly frustrated as his goal-less streak goes into its tenth game. Perhaps the messiah has not quite risen just yet...

    24th October 2017
    Vanarama National League

...On second thoughts. The result might not have been as planned but Robbie's second half consolation goal at least gave us a glimmer of hope that our Northern Irish prodigies earlier form was not just in flash in the pan. With hopes raised that McDaid might be ready to lead the club back to winning ways we head into the final game of the month full of hope...

    28th October 2017
    Vanarama National League

...Well that didn't last long. Lowly Whitehawk are making a meal of their time in the Vanarama National League but still managed to frustrate the Lions not just with a clean sheet but with a bruising injury to the recently returned to form McDaid. The footballing gods can be cruel at times.

    October 2017
    Vanarama National League

Despite not picking up a single point, our lead striker scoring just one goal in two months and now being forced on to the sideline for another couple, the club still somehow manages to cling on to its mid-table position slipping just one solitary place down the league. The dog-fight can wait.

Death Ball, PatrickLFC and Nosibor like this.

  19. November 2017

    11th November 2017
    Vanarama National League

Our win-less streak continues as we are once again punished for a sloppy first half of football. Our near neighbors left it until late in the first half to open the scoring but having doubled their lead just seconds before the whistle left us with a monumental up hill battle that proved to be to much, especially without our lead finisher on the pitch.

    18th November 2017
    Vanarama National League

We are pushed towards nearly ten games without a win as former Football League side, Accrington Stanley pile on the misery with a well taken free-kick routine breaking the deadlock. With our young squad suddenly looking worrying fragile, the club was in desperate need of a turn around in fortunes.

    21st November 2017
    Vanarama National League

Step forward Chelmsford. The Clarets sit rooted to the foot of the table and having gifted points generously to just about every opponent within the division, they soon followed suite handing us a much needed three points in a worryingly tight game in Essex courtesy of a neat finish from make-shift striker Josh Doughty.

    25th November 2017
    Vanarama National League

The boys are unable to pick up back to back victories as our Australian vice-captain is sent to the stands despite the Lions dominating the majority of the game. With the team reduced down to ten men we could do little to force our way through some resilient Halifax defending without usual cutting edge.

    28th November 2017
    Vanarama National League

With his Canadian counter-part Josh Doughty showcasing his skills, Navid Nasseri grabs the opportunity to keep his name in the running for a starting spot behind our lone striker as he bangs home an early goal to settle early nerves and help the club crawl towards its second away-day victory in a row.

    November 2017
    Vanarama National League

Despite a much improved performance from the club we actually fall a place down the league this time around. Football is a funny old-game at times. With the season fast approaching the mid-way point the club can take huge pride in finding itself still locked in the safety of mid-table and comfortably away from the battle at the bottom.

  20. Can't promise anything at this stage, not sure I can commit to one yet, and besides, I couldn't compete with this story!

Up and down form there but hopefully once McDaid is back you can start pushing for the playoffs

  21. having followed all of your '16 story, the October run felt somewhat inevitable. Good to see you doing so well so soon though, and hopefully you'll be in the football league sooner rather than later - with, or more likely without, Guiseley!
    Pure Luck likes this.

  22. 11 matches without a single win, that's harsh! And yet, half way through and the table looks good!

  23. Well Patrick I along with many others would welcome a return! Easily one of my favourite careers.

That is worryingly accurate Battman. At least its not going quite as poorly as my last attempt...yet. Thanks as always!

It certainly feels harsh Iwabik! The league is shaping up to be incredibly tight this time around.

On a sidenote, I'm off to Austria for a long weekend with the girlfriend. I'll hopefully see you all next week... provided she doesn't murder me by then.

    December 2017

    5th December 2017
    Vanarama National League

Our short unbeaten streak of just three games is brought to a close as the boys crash face first into another disappointing spell of win-less football. Having been forced onto the back foot throughout the majority of the game courtesy of some exciting Maidstone football the boys could do little to get back into the game despite Doughty's consolation goal.

    9th December 2017
    FA Trophy - 1st Round

Despite the leagues form being decidedly poor, I can at least take some comfort in our FA Trophy progress. A typical Will Hatfield thunderbolt sent the club on its way to the second round of the competition with Accrington's efforts only rewarding them with a second half red-card a messy exit from the competition.

    16th December 2017
    Vanarama National League

We make a return to league action and the much needed re-appearance of lead striker Robbie McDaid helps the club to salvage a draw against a hard-hitting Newport. With our Northern Irish forward making an early return from his injury he was limited to only one half of football but still managed to find the back of the net with ease.

    23rd December 2017
    Vanarama National League

The club nearly manages to cling on for another draw but are undone with the final kick of the game as some tired legs and some even scrappier defending see's Dagenham and Redbridge end the match on an almighty high as they manage to bundle in a poorly worked goal to disappoint the entire home crowd.

    26th December 2017
    Vanarama National League

The boys complete the job after a short Christmas break as they keep Wrexham frustrated for an entire ninety minutes to claim a point and continue to showcase a rather worrying lack on intent to claim the victory. Despite the disappointing result the Guiseley faithful are relieved just to see the club claim a solitary point.

    30th December 2017
    Vanarama National League

The fans emotions are once again toyed with as a shocking end to the year is capped off by another late goal stealing away the points. Having dominated the majority of the game, the ever reliable Will Hatfield tucked home a well earned opener but the clubs dominance was undone following a Southport goal with just seconds remaining.

    December 2017
    Vanarama National League

Another poor showing from the club finally has us spiral down the table as we now linger just shy of the dog-fight towards the foot of the league. With half the season done and dusted, a new year fast approaching and the club in dire need of a turn around in form we can only hope January ends our disappointing run.

  24. I'm little late but JÄÄÄÄÄSSSKKKEEELÄIINEEENN!!!!! (I'm from Finland) I'm not so sure are you doing good or bad job but still enjoying this story! Keep it up! And you will get points from me if you keep signings finnish players!

  25. You can still turn this aroud, don't give up. How far are the playoffs?

  26. I am back from Austria! Sorry for the delay!

Cheers Nnicod. I actually love Finnish players. Do you know anything about Alex Bradley by the way? Always good to snap up a Scandinavian!

Thanks cbrood! Within reaching distance but I'm not holding out much hope to be honest!

    January 2018

    1st January 2018
    Vanarama National League

No arrivals in the new year transfer window but who needs more signings when you have our Northern Irish sharpshooter in such fine form. Having been frustrated on the sidelines as the club slid down the table, McDaid could not have returned soon enough as a second half brace secures a much needed three points for the Lions.

    6th January 2018
    Vanarama National League

The boys continue their return to wining ways with a second half fight back against a strong Barrow side. Having been on the back foot for the majority of the game we finally burst into life within the final quarter of the game with our key striker Robbie McDaid leaving it until the final few seconds of the game to secure an impressive fight back.

    13th January 2018
    Vanarama National League

Our final shot at a cup run comes to a bruising end as we are left frustrated by ten man Billericay. The club stranded at the foot of the English footballing league defied their lowly status to secure a place in the next round of the competition despite being reduced down to ten men early in the second half. Disappointing.

    27th January 2018
    Vanarama National League

Back to the league and back to winning ways as we make it three Robbie McDaid inspired victories in a row. Having gone down to two early goals it seemed the club was about to head back to losing ways within the first ten minutes until our Northern Irish assassin unleashed his potential on Bromley snatching another late victory in style.

    30th January 2018
    Vanarama National League

We round off a resurgent month with an encouraging draw over a plucky Eastleigh. Having once again conceded early, the boys struggled to find a way back into the match until Josh Doughty continued his season's impressive tally just before the break to give us a brief glimmer of hope. A backs to the wall job in the second half ensured a hard-earned point.

    January 2018
    Vanarama National League

Having gone unbeaten for the entire month the club finds itself clawing its way back towards mid-table and more importantly away from the battle at the bottom of the table. With the season now drawing to a close the league is shaping up to be incredibly close. Any slip ups look set to be severely punished. Its brutal in the basement of English football.

  27. Nice month! And yeah I have heard Alex Bradley that's all.

  28. Thanks again! Well at least that makes both of us. His name doesn't seem very...Finnish?

    February 2018

    6th February 2018
    Vanarama National League

Our good year fortune comes to an end as we enter February with a disappointing defeat to a still struggling Tranmere. Having only just got used to their new found non-league status Tranmere showed that they are certainly not in the mood to waste anymore time with another three points helping them towards making a late playoff push.

    10th February 2018
    Vanarama National League

Our poor fortune continues into the next game as we are once again undone by just the solitary goal as a strong Sutton United side snatch a goal just before the break and sit on their slender lead to see out the game and snatch up all three points. Perhaps the relegation battle shouldn't be forgotten quite so soon...

    17th February 2018
    Vanarama National League

...Or maybe we can? With just a couple of months worth of football remaining, even this seemingly insignificant victory could have a huge affect. A two goal win see's us cruise past Forest Green with the boys dominating the entirety of the game. It seem's we are not going to end this season without doing our utmost to escape another relegation scrap.

    24th February 2018
    Vanarama National League

The boys are unable to build on the back of their convincing victory in the previous game as they are held by a determined Newquay. With both teams eager to do all they can to secure the points neither side could break away from the other as they both eventually settled for a hard-earned point.

    27th February 2018
    Vanarama National League

A disappointing game only burst into life within the final few minutes of the game as our Northern Irish striker, Robbie McDaid scored what seemed to be the winner with just six minutes remaining on the clock. Despite our late effort Boreham refused to let us leave with the points forcing a penalty and a late equalizer to send us home with a reluctant point.

    February 2018
    Vanarama National League

A month of mixed fortunes predictably has the club slip down the table once more as the Lions now reside in fourteenth place in the league. Any hopes of a late run in for the play-offs have now long since vanished but at least we can take some solace in the fact that it would take one hell of an implosion to see the club enter the relegation dog-fight...even I would find that challenging.

  29. I'm not surprised how this month did go for you I did fast google search about Alex and he has finland and england in his nationalitiy(y or e?)s. BTW could somebody do me favour and go to Everton U18 team and scout Miko Virtanen he should be in the game(I don't own FM17 before steam xmas sales)? Miko's move from TPV(it's small club but in finland respected club in youth players) to the Everton academy was somehow big thing in Finland 2-3 years ago like Sergei Eremenko's move to the Basel from FF Jaro now(Sadly his brother just did get caught usin cocaine "accidentally"). Sorry for long post :/

  30. Yeah...nor was I. Thanks Nnicod, I think he must be English born but hes details are unknown! As for Miko Virtanen he is with Everton at the start of the game however in my career he is now with Vanarama North side, Salford. I somehow managed to miss his release. Looks like he could be pretty handy in the lower leagues. Let me know if you want a screenshot or anything.

    March 2018

    3rd March 2018
    Vanarama National League

The penultimate month of the season has us get things underway in fine style as we cruise past Chester following a dominant display from the Lions. Robbie McDaids opening goal set the tone of the match after just six minutes with left midfielder Twardzik completing the victory with a goal mid-way through the second half.

    10th March 2018
    Vanarama National League

Having gone down to two quickfire first-half goals it seemed the club was set for a convincing defeat but in an encouraging display of never say die football, the boys fired back in dramatic style making the most of a fortunate own-goal, with Canadian midfielder Josh Doughty capping an impressive fight-back.

    17th March 2018
    Vanarama National League

A tight first half suggested we might have been in for another battling display but in a dominant second-half the boys tore into Gateshead, smashing home three goals as the clubs five man midfield ran rampant to solidify their hold on the points and send a warning message to the rest of the division as the club casts an eye ahead to next season.

    20th March 2018
    Vanarama National League

Before we get ahead of ourselves there is the small matter of finishing this season. In a tight game against near rivals, York City, it took a rare goal from back-up striker Jordan Preston to break the deadlock. The young strikers fifth start of the season saw him finally give McDaid a brief moment of worry as his neat finish proves enough to seal another victory.

    Vanarama National League

Now that was unexpected. A play-off chasing Accrington posed a mighty test for my resurgent young team but the in-form Lions seem to know no-bounds as they tore into the home side. Another dominant display from the entire midfield saw the club ease to my biggest victory to date as the teenage squad showcases its true potential in style.

    30th March 2018
    Vanarama National League

Lowly Whitehawk started brightly as they looked to bring an end to our superb run of form but another solid display from the team and another good slice of fortune in the shape of our second own-goal of the month ensures the club ends the month still very much on the crest of a huge high.

    March 2018
    Vanarama National League

What a month. The relegation dog-fight of last season and the narrow escape in the final match seem a world away as the club looks to settle itself in for a comfortable and highly respectable mid-table finish with just one month of football remaining. A superb showing from the club goes someway to justifying my teenage transfer signings.

  31. What a month! Finishing inside the top 10 would be great progress

  32. Mid table would be great and the team are really coming along. Your transfer dealings are reaping rewards and here's hoping they continue to progress and push you and the team on next season, assuming you're not offered a more "lucrative" challenge.

  33. Cheers Patrick, Top ten would be a huge step from the relegation dog-fight of last season.

Cheers Neavie Pops. First time my early young signings have actually paid off to be honest. Fingers crossed for a step into the Football League!

    2nd April 2018
    Vanarama National League

Our superb form from the previous month makes a brief appearance in the final one of the season as we ease our way to a two goal victory over Chelmsford. The performance suggested that the boys were set to continue this superb run of games towards the end of the season but it soon went south...

    7th April 2018
    Vanarama National League

...A promotion chasing Telford make no mistake with their seasons hopes being poised in the balance in these final few games as they make up for an early goal in style eventually cruising their way to a three goal lead with Telfords boys controlling the majority of the game in style. Despite the result our earlier form did see me gain some early attention...

    14th April 2018
    Vanarama National League

It seemed the loss and the end of the clubs unbeaten streak knocked the boys for six as they look to end the season early by not showing up against Halifax in the penultimate game of the season. A poor first half showing was compounded by a sloppy own goal and a late finish to rub salt into the wound, hardly the best way to impress my potential employers...

    28th April 2018
    Vanarama National League

Having been told in no uncertain terms that their efforts in the previous game were not acceptable the boys at least make a game of the final fixture of the season as the force a draw against Maidstone. As one of the oldest men on the field Will Hatfield has been crucial to the clubs efforts and a fine solo strike see's us end a promising season with our heads held high.

    April 2018
    Vanarama National League

Despite the late wobble the season has been a huge stride forward for both myself and the club as we establish ourselves in the safety of mid-table in the Vanarama National League. With some early attention from League Two clubs and my reputation slowly on the rise things are looking up. This is different. I like it.

  34. From the bottom of the table to the middle, if we continue at this rate an early trophy us sure to be ours right?

Whilst I'm dreaming of silverware, for three mean it is an every day reality...

Carlo Ancelotti Jose Mourinhio Diego Simeone
Bayern Munich Manchester United Atletico Madrid
£250,000 per week £230,000 per week £180,000 per week

Following the massive departure of Pep, the top three finally solidify their status with the trio managing to survive another hectic season.

For Carlo and Bayern, the Bundesliga title was once again locked away inside the trophy room at the Allianz Arena, with the club's only disappointment coming in the shape of a final defeat in the Champions League courtesy of his close rival, Jose Mourinhio.

Whilst Carlo and Jose bathed in the adoration of their fans, for Diego Simeone his Atletico side were left frustrated in Spain. A failed European run and a disappointing domestic campaign saw the Argentinian forced to settle for just the Supercopa as he looks to keep the pressure high on the La Liga big boys.

For myself the season was uncharacteristically successful.

With the Lions guided away from the foot of the league and into the safety of mid-table and with a brief hint of interest from League Two towards the end of the season I awaited some further job offers from some desperate side looking to cling on to their football league status...

...needless to say, they didn't come but the Guiseley board didn't let me down...

    Derby Jack
    £750 per week

    Two seasons. Two Pay rises.

With another one hundred pounds added to my weekly earnings I'm already nearing that magical one thousand pound mark.

Only Two Hundred and Forty-Nine Thousand pounds a week left till I'm joining Carlo and co at the top of the listings...This might take me a while.

  35. Hi, Do you go jobhunting, or just wait for offers? What is your approache?

  36. Nice layout and good story telling. Keep it up mate!

  37. I try to sit back and wait but more often then not I find myself making the first move.

Cheers PlatihDadakan. I'll do my best!

Two seasons into my career and I another roll of the dice in the transfer window.

Before I set about luring every single talented teenager in the country to Guiseley without drawing the un-wanted but much deserved attention of the police force there is the small matter of making some space within the Lions first-team...

The initial three transfers of the window all went to plan as we ship out some of the oldest but least talented players in the squad as their contracts come to an expected end.

With the window seemingly going completley to plan it wasn't until the final few days of the window that things took an unexpected turn.

In comes League one Bolton and the clubs new record transfer fee of Seventy Thousand as the Trotters splash the cash to snap up our central defender Mich'el Parker after just one solitary season with the club.

With space freed up in the team it was time to quickly bolster the ranks before the new season.

    From: Out of Contract
    Cost: Free

First signing of the season has us make quick moves to bring in Portugeuse defender Luis Silva. The former Stoke City product was unfortunate to be released from the club at just nineteen years old but the Potters harsh moves allowed us to snap up a young and hungry defender set to make a huge impact in the National League.

    From: Out of Contract
    Cost: Free

I was in dire need of some more cover in the central midfield department when we came across Slovakian Under Twenty One player, Christian Herc. Having spent the entirity of last season on the sidelines the former Wolves player makes one last ditch attempt at salvaging his career with a place in the Lions first-team.

    From: Out of Contract
    Cost: Free

Final arrival has me make an attempt at making up for the late departure for Mich'el Parker with the signing of Harry Brockbank. Despite not being quite as talented as Luis Silva, the former Bolton player still has a shot at making it back into the football league as the new arrival and the club look to snatch an unexpected promotion.

A solid but slightly uninspiring window.

With three more young players added to the ranks I now have the youngest squad in the entire country by quite some distance, time to see if these youngster still have some fight to make it back into the football league.

Death Ball, Seano, naterr and 3 others like this.

  38. Preseason

    14th July 2018

We start the pre-season with an encouraging victory over League Two's Grimsby. Having welcomed the The Mariners to Yorkshire we showed them that we would be no push over as we clung on to a result in front of a dubious home-crowd as our young squad showed up their football league opposition to secure the draw.

    21st July 2018

We are unable to repeat the feat against Bradford as a goal just before the break has us slump to a hard-earned loss. The boys certainly showed the same fight that saw them pick up an encouraging result in the previous game but despite a harsh red-card the boys proved toothless in front of goal as they settled for the narrow loss.

    1st August 2018

We make a short trip across Yorkshire as we go up against lowly Skelmersdale. We certainly proved ourselves to the lowly opposition as we smash home three first-half goals to secure the points with the only blight on an otherwise dominant performance saw us concede a goal against the run of play to give the minnows something to take home.

    6th August 2018

Rounding off the Pre-season comes a match up against Yorkshire giants and Parent club, Leeds United. The Lilywhites dominated procedures comfortable throughout the majority of the game until the final few seconds in which back-up striker Jordan Preston found the back of the net to showcase the clubs never say die attitude.

A short but by no means disappointing window as the club proves itself against football league opposition and even secures a more then respectable result against the Mighty Leeds United before we look to take our promising displays into the forth coming season its time to check out the formation...

The Christmas Tree formation is still someway from completion as I hold it steady with the more cautious 4-4-1-1 formation that proved so successful last season.

With attacking midfielders flooding the market there is no reason why I couldn't make the change to my favored 4-3-2-1 formation but quite frankly...I'm too scared.

Having never made a start to a career like this I'm keen not to upset the balance.

  39. August 2018

    11th August 2018
    Vanarama National League

We start the season off in feisty but fine fashion as we sneak a win against a Wrexham side who were rumored to be early contenders for promotion this season. With the boys making showing some surprisingly early promise the red card is quickly ignored as we make a superb start to the season.

    18th August 2018
    Vanarama National League

The good news keeps coming. Once again the referee takes centre stage as we are gifted a route to the points with just ten minutes remaining on the clock courtesy of a risky challenge in the box. The veteran midfielder Will Hatfield make no mistake from the spot showing his young team-mates how to keep a level head.

    21st August 2018
    Vanarama National League

Following our winning start we are quickly brought back down to earth by a rampant Newport. The Welsh side are eager to snatch promotions this time around and have certainly laid down an impressive early pace. A three goal white-wash keeps the Rodney Parade faithful heading for a return to the football league.

    25th August 2018
    Vanarama National League

On the back of the emphatic defeat the boys make a quick return to winning ways as they slot home within just seconds of the opening whistle. The Lions then quickly shut up shop as they looked to keep Maidenhead out for the remaining Eighty Nine minutes with the defence making up for their sloppy showing in the previous game.

    August 2018
    Vanarama National League

Aside from the defeat to Newport it has been an impressive start from the Lions in the National League. With three quick-fire victories the club finds itself in an early playoff spot as they clubs relegation nightmares quickly start to change to dreams of life in the football league. There's a long way to go yet.

Death Ball, Seano and Nosibor like this.

  40. September 2018

    1st September 2018
    Vanarama National League

Our early promising form continues into the second month of the season as Robbie McDaid leads the club into a two goal lead before the Shrimpers ensured a nervy finish to the game as they dominate the entire second-half of football with our defence once again proving their worth to keep them at bay.

    3rd September 2018
    Vanarama National League

Our first draw of the season has us forced to settle for a point against a strong looking Boreham Wood. A second-half red card for our fiery Australian Captain, James Wesolowski ruined any hopes of coming away with all three points as our now flagging defence is once again pushed to their limits to save us from an undeserved defeat.

    9th September 2018
    Vanarama National League

With the games coming thick and fast and our defence being pushed to their physical limit a collapse in form was on the cards and it certainly didn't waste any time showing its face. A struggling Halifax are thrown a lifeline as they pick up a comfortable two goal victory with The Lions unable to muster a single shot throughout a one-way second-half of football.

    15th September 2018
    Vanarama National League

Its back to back two goal defeats as we are once again left disappointed following a smash and grab victory from lowly Whitehawk. With the boys foolishly switching off before the break we are soon punished with the determined Whitehawk tucking home two quickfire winners to shred my second-half plans.

    18th September 2018
    Vanarama National League

The games are coming thick and fast but the returning Wesolowski adds some much needed backbone to the team sheet with his opening goal giving the boys something to fight for. Another goal conceded before break unfortunately meant the Aussie's opener was not enough but non the less a point is a welcome sight following the previous two games.

    22nd September 2018
    Vanarama National League

With the frantic pace of the games coming thick and fast, the boys are struggling to keep up. Another tricky tie has them seemingly set to settle for a hard-earned point against Torquay but with mere seconds left of the game the sea-siders find a route to the back of the net to ensure the long journey home is worth the trip. Disappointing.

    29th September 2018
    Vanarama National League

Having gone from conceeding numerous goals before the break we now go to letting slip just moments after the opening whistle as Woking fire themselves into the lead with the Lions once again worryingly impotent in front of goal. Robbie McDaid has all but disappeared. Come back Jack Cassidy, all is forgiven!

    September 2018
    Vanarama National League

An incredibly busy fixture list punished my young squad as they are quickly given a lesson in just how tough life down in the depths of English football can be. With eleven games played and the season now very much in full swing it looks like those Football league hopes have already been snuffed out. That's more like my style.

  41. October 2018

    6th October 2018
    Vanarama National League

September was certainly a difficult month but Will Hatfield's experience in the middle of the pitch makes the difference as our work-horse midfielder finds the back of net twice to give us all three points in the battle between the lower league sides of Yorkshire. A much needed return to winning ways...

    9th October 2018
    Vanarama National League

...And its gone. On the road against Chester and we are soon condemned to another defeat courtesy of some lackluster attacking football and an unfortunate own-goal from our Portuguese defender Luis Silva. Aside from the result the defender has shown some strong early promise and certainly didn't deserve to be rewarded so cruelly.

    20th October 2018
FA Cup - 4th Qualifying Round

The league might be ramping up the pace but the FA Cup finally comes around to give us a much needed break and passage into the first round of the competition following a midfield showcase over a Croby side stranded at the very bottom of the English game. Non the less I'll take the result!

    23rd October 2018
    Vanarama National League

On the back of the narrow win we continue the pace in the league as we secure a deserved three points over a relegation threatened Bromley. Canadian attacking midfielder Doughty has been missing for the majority of the start of the season with niggling injuries but his return see's him bag a goal and an assist to mark his return in style.

    27th October 2018
    Vanarama National League

We are struggling to amass the kind of form that saw us start the season towards the top of the table and our bruising captain, James Wesolowski is certainly starting to show his frustration as he picks up his second red card in as many months. With just ten men we are unable to keep Accrington at bay as Stanley score a late winner to add to our woes.

    30th October 2018
    Vanarama National League

Despite not having our midfield maestro in the starting lineup the boys show up for the final game of the month as we cruise to a two goal victory against Maidstone. The ever reliable Josh Doughty continues to impress with the opening goal with Finnish midfielder Alex Bradley completing the victory.

    October 2018
    Vanarama National League

A thankfully more mixed month then September as the boys find a way to grab the points and force their way back up the standings and into the comfort of the top half of the table. With a season objective of mid-table safety I will be more then happy to end the season right now.

  42. November 2018

    3rd November 2018
    Vanarama National League

November gets under way in dramatic fashion as we battle our way to a slim victory by sneaking past a strong Macclesfield side. our Finnish midfielder Alex Bradley is certainly making the most of Wesolowski's continual suspensions with the teenager grabbing his first career brace to help us to all three points.

    10th November 2018
    FA Cup - First Round

Having thrashes us by the very same scoreline in the first month of the season, Newport once again make an unwanted return to slam us out of the FA Cup without so much as an attempt at a fight back from the Lions. With now money coming in from a long cup run it looks like any hopes of a third wage raise might be put on the sidelines.

    17th November 2018
    Vanarama National League

To their credit the boys once again bounce back from the thrashing at the hands of Newport to make it back to back victories in the league with a slender victory over Cheltenham. With just give minutes remaining our Canadian maestro emerged to fire home the winner and continue to solidify our place in the top half of the table.

    24th November 2018
    Vanarama National League

The mini winning streak is brought to an end as the boys once again leave it late securing a point courtesy of a Will Hatfield leveler just four minutes from time. With Gateshead also looking to make their long await arrival in the football league, the point is certainly not to be shrugged at.

    27th November 2018
    Vanarama National League

The club wastes little time making it back to picking up the three points as they ease to victory over a North Ferriby side. The result came courtesy of yet more brilliant work from our Canadian midfielder. Josh Doughty has proved to be in superb form since his arrival at the club. Unfortunately it seems we might have trouble snatching more foreign point winners from here on...

    November 2018
    Vanarama National League

Whilst the rest of the country gets used to life outside of the European Union, Guiseley has once again been sneakily making its way back up the standings and now sit tantalizingly close to the playoff spots as we tear our way to the mid-way point of the season. Much bigger news then Brexit.

  43. December 2018

    1st December 2018
    Vanarama National League

The festive run in gets off to a superb start as we pick up an unexpected victory over a Tranmere side still frustrated to be left out of the football league. With Robbie McDaid finally back to his best things are back to their best and it seems our improved form has not gone un-noticed by the football league...

    4th December 2018
    Vanrama National League

With a potential jump to League Two on the line, the boys slump to a disappointing defeat at the hands of Forest Green with not so much as a sniff on goal. Despite the disappointing result it seems my reputation has certainly taken a much needed boost as another application makes its way onto my desk.

    11th December 2018
    Vanarama National League

With my hopes raised high for a break through into the big time, the boys actually showed up for me and pulled out an impressive performance against Ebsfleet with two players very much cut out for potentially joining me in the football league finding the goals that mattered. In the end the result proved to not be enough...

    15th December 2018
    FA Trophy - 1st Round

Despite the disappoint, the FA Trophy reminded me that I still have some unfinished business in non-league football as we make an early mark in the competition to book our spot in the next round despite yet another red card for the increasingly uncontrollable Wesolowki. The result and yet another big move in the inbox assured my disappointment was short lived...

    22nd December 2018
    Vanarama National League

...Well not for long. A return to league action has the boys narrowly pipped by a difficult Wrexham side with the Welsh side leaving it late to strike home the winner and the result was compounded by yet another frustratingly short hope of making it into League Two as my fourth interview comes to another disappointing end. Bah Humbug!

    26th December 2018
    Vanarama National League

The boxing day game see's Alex Bradley follow his midfield into the stands. The Finnish midfielder has come on leaps and bounds following Wesolowski's inability to stop crunching every player in the division but it seems the captain might have had a word with a teenager as a two footed challenge has him deservedly sent from the pitch with the boys settling for a point.

    29th December 2018
    Vanarama National League

We round off the month and the year with a draw that felt more like a win for a beleagured squad. The Lions have been smashed by Newport of late, with County thumping in six goals without reply in both the League and FA Cup but a determined side held their own to end their poor run and secure a well earned point.

    December 2018
    Vanarama National League

A difficult month has us slip down the table but with the club still well into the top half of the position and the playoff spots by no means out of reach, there is plenty to be looking forward to as we head into the new year. With just four months of football remaining its shaping up to be a tight finish in the National League.

  44. January 2019

    1st January 2019
    Vanarama National League

The new year starts in disappointing fashion as we hold on to an important point but certainly threw away what should have been an easy three. With a two goal lead it seemed to be all too easy for the Lions until a spirited late comeback saw Maidenhead grab a share of the spoils.

    5th January 2019
    Vanarama National League

The new year disappointment is short lived as the boys are back to their efficient best to pull off a smash and grab victory over the Shrimpers. Morecambe were slow off the mark with the Lions quickly taking advantage as Oliver thumped home a fine individual effort from the right, with the boys happily defending till the whistle, with the football league once again seemingly impressed...

    12th January 2019
    Vanarama National League

A mixed start to 2019 has us slip to defeat against a high-flying Boreham Wood with McDaid's equalizer snuffed out by a dominant second half from the home side. With the boys once again proving to be worryingly weak my potential suitors once again decided against offering me the job. This is starting to get cruel.

    19th January 2019
    FA Trophy - 2nd Round

With League Two seemingly content to tease me from afar, my misfortune is added to as Accrington dump us out of the FA Trophy following an end to end game in Lancashire. Once again the unfortunate McDaid finds himself on the losing end despite his leveller but it seems I can at least take some comfort from the cup exit...

    26th January 2019
    Vanarama National League

The FA Trophy might be out of reach once more but at least that gives us the opportunity to concentrate on our league exploits with a smooth victory over a hapless Halifax. With McDaid feeling the relief of scoring for the winning side, my hopes were raised for breaking my own managerial misfortune...

    January 2019
    Vanarama National League

...Surely their cannot be many managers left to fill the jobs? With my head held low and the Chairmen throughout the entire league seemingly grouping up to keep me in non-league football, I can atleast take come comfort from Guiseley's unexpected high position in the league. Every cloud and all that...

  45. Quality story man! McDaid is just unreal for you ! how many goals did he finish up on last season ? hopefully you get a bigger job soon but be sad to see you leave Guisley!

  46. You seem to have such bad luck with the interviews!

why not trying being really aggressive and angry in your next interview.

  47. Interviews are not your friend, I remember in your last story you had a similar experience with failing interviews, can you not use some of the tricks that helped you out in FM16 here?

  48. Cheers Aldo, I have to say the Northern Irish striker has certainly filled the gap very well. He made Twenty Five goals in total apparently. Not a bad return at all! Thanks again!

I think you might be on to something Naterr. Walk in like I'm in charge!

It sure feels that way Neavie. Trouble is I have no idea how I did it. I think I might just blag my way through it and hope!

    February 2019

    2nd February 2019
    Vanarama National League

Red cards have blighted the entire season and the boys made sure they would continue to cause me concern as the seemingly uncontrollable Wesolowski drags Canadian play maker Doughty off the pitch with him as we gift Whitehawk an easy victory. The disappointing result did not however stop the influx of League Two job offers...

    9th February 2019
    Vanarama National League

Having somehow talked my way out of every single job interview thus far I was determined to ignore my links with Grimsby but following a massively disappointing game at Nethermoor Park and the boys inability to find the back of the net against ten men I was finally given some long awaited good news. The football league awaits...

    February 2019
    Vanarama National League

So it's come to an end. Never before have I joined a club and actually made such a positive difference. Having joined the Lions two seasons ago, I've managed to take the club from relegation favorites to mid-table safety. Decent. With just a couple of months of football remaining its time to pack my bags for my long teased jump up to League Two.

  49. Well done mate, what new "technique" did you adopt for the interview?where are Grimsby in the league? I'm sure Guiseley will build u a statue shortly!
