And so the story begins. The small, quaint town of Middelfart in Denmark. Having lived in the North West of England for the last decade, it may not be too far of a stretch to up sticks and move over to Denmark. It's a tad colder and the names are harder to pronounce but I need to start my managerial career somewhere.

The only football qualifications I have are a FA Level 1 Coaching Award and I have played some Sunday League football although my career was suddenly cut short due to a horrendous lack of talent. 26 years old, yearning for adventure and a drastic change, I decided to apply for a few jobs. Even the local leagues seem to have high standards of coaches so I have had no luck. Further afield a friend of mine did some coaching in a small village near Middelfart and mentioned he knew the owner.

Long story short, a horrible campaign mixed with pure desperation meant I got a Skype interview with the Chairman Claus Hansen. All my training so far had led me to constantly reminding myself to not giggle every time the Chairman said 'Middelfart'. Some typical questions then followed and I decided to be blatantly honest. How can I say it's been a dream of mine to manage Middelfart? Who's going to believe that? Instead I keep it short and simple.

"Look Mr. Hansen, I have the drive, determination and ambition to take on the task of taking this club further up the leagues and to bring success. It may be a risk taking me on, but let's be honest it's about time for a change around here."

Fearing that I may have been a tad too arrogant in the interview, I was worried sick and continue to wait for my reply. He said he needed a few days to discuss things with the board, so hopefully there will be a decision soon.

After the 14,000 time of hitting the refresh button on my laptop, I start to worry that I may have broken it. I check my phone, still no luck. To keep myself slightly distracted I decided to do some research into the the place I will potentially be moving to.

The town of Middelfart has a population of just over 14,000. The town boasts one Church and hopefully a pub. On a more impressive note, Christian Eriksen used to live here. If all goes well, I hope to bring through some more local talent through the ranks and maybe find another famous name to add to the ranks.

1 Unread email. Could this be it?

    From: Claus Hansen
    RE: Job Interview

    Dear Hein,

Thank you for your time and patience. Following our interview the other day, the board has further discussed the vacant manager's role. Despite a few high quality applications, we are pleased to offer you the current position. The board had commended your passion and honesty and hope this is a trait that will continue as you go on if you accept this offer.

Please could you respond at the earliest convenience, pre-season is just around the corner and we are eager to get training underway.

    Kind regards,
    Claus.

Safe to say it didn't take long for me to reply and accept the job. What a great way to blag a job in a new country! I quickly reply with one main question. How on earth do you get to Middelfart?

  3. Welcome to Middelfart!
It is just after 11pm local time. I have been travelling for nearly 13 hours with delays, missed trains and struggling with the slight dip in temperature. England is cold and despite it being summer, Denmark is quite nippy so late in the evening.

The club have organised a little B&B for me until I find a place of my own to rent or buy (if this goes well). After unpacking and getting some sleep I am up first thing to get prepared for my first day at Middelfart Boldklub. I head over to the stadium and I see Claus standing outside in the car park. Great to meet him in person and to get this job underway. A quick tour around the basic facilities, we go into what will be my office. A room Harry Potter would sneer at. I would only be able to have meetings with 1 person at a time and they would have to sit on my lap. This will need to change, along with that ridiculous stadium name. My hope is that they will build a new stadium or expand this one at least.

The chairman asked if I would like a brief history of the club and seeing as I had no knowledge of Middelfart a few weeks ago, it wouldn't be a bad idea.

    Middelfart Boldklub appoint unknown manager
In a somewhat surprising move, Middelfart Boldklub have made a bold statement by appointing unknown manager Hein van der Westhuizen as Manager. The Brit has no formal management qualifications and has only played as a Sunday League player. Many fans are concerned by the fact that no one has even heard of the young manager before. Jorgen Jensen, a lifelong local fan, had the following to say:

"Who? What? Why? Just why? How can this 26 year old come over here and make a difference. Shocking decision by the club. At the end of the day I still support the club but I am not getting too excited for what lies ahead"

This sentiment is echoed amongst other supporters who believe that the calibre of managers available were far more suitable than this unproven, uninitiated foreigner.

The only supporter in van der Westhuizen's corner is Gertrud Maer. The 78 year old fisherman's wife has said "We have had a real struggle lately. Maybe, just maybe, this is the drastic change we need to bring some success to the club and the glorious town of Middelfart.

It is expected that the manager will be revealed to the press in the coming days.

  5. Pre-season

Well things are a bit mixed after my first few days at the club. Having a look at the squad there are some real players here which impressed me. On the other hand we are in debt and have absolutely zero youth prospects or squad depth. The saving grace could be the fact that it's a short season here.

So let's have a look at some of the players who are going to lead the team to glory and promotion.

    Adigun Salami (great name)
Name: Screen Shot 2017-07-09 at 22.39.30.png
Views: 1061
Size: 726.9 KB

What a lovely little player Salami looks to be! The Nigerian will be our pivot point in midfield, like a younger, cheaper Kante.

    Casper Radza
Name: Screen Shot 2017-07-09 at 22.39.53.png
Views: 1058
Size: 723.7 KB
The team is quite youthful and for his age, I can't believe this kid hasn't been scouted by the bigger clubs. Seems to be a solid choice between the sticks this season.

    Casper Vaerum

Name: Screen Shot 2017-07-09 at 22.40.18.png
Views: 1064
Size: 735.6 KB

Another Casper but this one is a tad older. He is the club captain and will continue to be. Our best player in terms of versatility and arguably at the same level as Salami. Casper can either partner Salami in midfield or play up front.

    Peter Jul Nielsen
Name: Screen Shot 2017-07-09 at 22.40.45.png
Views: 1060
Size: 715.3 KB

A future star for the club I imagine, this lad seems to be the leading light in our weak looking defence. The left back can bomb forward and seem to be able to whip a cross in too.

Apart from these exceptions the rest of the team looks pretty poor, although they are young so could improve.
In order to boost my coaching skills, I have requested to do my National C licence but unfortunately the board are unable to pay for it. Apparently the FA won't accept fish as payment, so we will have to do with what little we have in the back room staff.

Below are our fixtures for the season. Yes, the WHOLE season. Let's crack on with the friendlies then eh? See what these boys have to offer!

  6. Friendlies
Before the friendlies get underway I needed to add some quality to the squad. I have very little money for this and the club is already in debt so I am hoping a risky addition of these two players will pay off with promotion at the end of the year.

    Haydar Said
Name: Screen Shot 2017-07-10 at 15.35.42.png
Views: 1016
Size: 504.1 KB

Our first signing is Haydar Said, the 24 year old Iranian joins Middelfart on a free transfer from Avarta, who also play in the Second Division. The Iranian is hoping to impress following a disappointing stint at FC Copenhagen.

    Mathias Cordua
Name: Screen Shot 2017-07-10 at 15.36.03.png
Views: 1004
Size: 717.3 KB

Now here is a player that I think will be a real bargain. Transferred across from Avarta as well, Cordua joins Said in the backline of Middelfart. Despite being only 21 years old, the young Dane already has 46 first team appearances under his belt and 1 goal. His physical stats look decent and the lad knows how to tackle. Sorted.

Right, preseason friendlies mean 2 things for me. Fitness and proof. Players need to get up to speed and they need to show me they deserve a place in the team. We have 6 games for the lads to show what they can do.

Well that was a bit shit. I haven't heard of any of these teams, we were favourites in the majority of the games and bar one great performance from a striker I have already forgotten the name of, I haven't got anything else to report really. Our key players performed which is a plus but we need some serious help if this team is wanting to get promoted. Oh yeah speaking of which I had a bit of a chat with the squad, saying I fancy our chances finishing higher than mid table. These lot have the ambition of David Moyes and the determination of a wet noodle. They believe it unrealistic and we should settle for mid table. Balderdash I say, we are here to win!

It is here. The start of my professional career as a football manager. With the bookies making us favourite for promotion, I'm a bit more confused as to why the squad generally think a top half finish is ambitious. Maybe they just feel a bit insecure.

Anyway the games are coming in thick and fast as I imagine they want the games played before Denmark turns into something beyond the Wall on Game of Thrones.

Not bad at all! 3-0 against a side predicted to do well. A hat-trick on a debut for Mads Raben. A very pleasing first game as a manager.

Unbelievable scenes! We were written off from the start here. After conceding in the 1st minute I was tempted to just park the bus. Not today, we decided to turn that bus around and smash it right into their smug faces. Mads scored yet again and we were all over them. Extra time loomed and we should have lost but thanks to a disallowed goal we went to penalties and Casper came up big! Even more kudos to the players as they defeated the side who won the cup a few years back!

Second round in the cup against another big team, this team the league above us. What a game just a pity we couldn't get something from it.

    SHIT!!!

I've just looked at the table. We are on negative points! I thought we would be top for sure but it seems Middelfart have shit the money bed. It must be finances that have left the clubs on -15 points at the start of the season. We have pulled it back a bit and are on -5 points now but really pissed off. Why didn't the board tell me? Finally found out why the boys have been so pessimistic. We need a miracle to get promoted now.

  10. Haha! I mean, I shouldn't laugh, but...

Jury still out on van der Westhuizen

After one month of competitive fixtures, the verdict on new Middelfart Boldklub boss is still not determined. Despite leading the club to an undefeated start of the campaign, many fans remain pessimistic about the club's prospects this season.

A good performance in the cup has given the Englishman some credibility but critics say that it was merely expected.

When asked about his first month, the manager had this to say.

"Well it's early doors here but the lads attitude has been great. We all just want to focus on a game at a time and if we keep it up, we are confident we can get a positive result to this campaign."

The young manager is looking to build on some of these foundations and will be praising the form of some of his key players. Time will only tell if the gamble pays off.

All things considered it is not a bad start at all. Despite being the best team in the league in terms of performance, the plucky club of Middelfart is still rooted to the foot of the table. We are one victory away from 1 point. I am confident we can push up the table but the question is how big will the gap at the top be come the end of the season.

We have also made another signing. All free as he is an amateur but some good quality cover for the squad.

Well the unbeaten run could not last. We play first in the league away from home and come up just short. All 172 fans were treated to a spectacle though with goals flying in everywhere. I expect we will be battling it out with Marienlyst at the end of the season.

The final game of the month sees us climb up the table after a comfortable 3-0 win against the bottom club. El-Ahmar grabs another from a set piece and Thrane (who we loaned in) opens his account from midfield. Boesen adds another goal and a fine performance. He get my vote for Player of the Month.

The month of October is already upon us. The season is going as well as it can really with very few hiccups. We have the best record in the league and we have started to climb up the table after clawing back our deficit.

With only a handful of games left in the coming month and a home game against the only team to beat us in the league, this is it. I am not 100% sure how the format works but I imagine they have a winter break and do the playoffs later on. We shall see. For now it's all about the next 5 games and getting as many points as possible.

WHAT. A. GAME! El-Ahmar decided to channel his inner Jamie Carragher and score an own goal off the first bit of play. Before we could reply, they had 2. Half time came and my angry Danish lessons were about to kick in. I spat out a host insults and threatened to give them the Phil Brown style telling off at the end of the game. Feeling embarrassed and with some tactical changes from myself, the lads came back to win! UP THE FARTS!

The only bad news is we have lost our number 1 young striker for the rest of the season effectively.

The end of the month sees us right in the mix for the playoffs. Only 8 points behind Marienlyst, I don't think we have enough games to catch them. We should be able to go up though, that is if the playoffs mean you go up into the next league and not just giving you entry to the local raffle.

    Festive cheer for Middelfart fans
This year it seems that the odds were stacked against Middelfart Boldklub. With a -15 point deficit from last season's financial fair play breach. That coupled with the appointment of a foreign manager, it seemed that the club was destined for a rough patch while they recover. Laden in debt, it seemed that the club would struggle to attract any new players.

In a somewhat miraculous turn around, the club has finished the first period in second place despite being so far behind early on in the season. With just one league loss this season, Middelfart are the in form team heading into the Promotion Stages.

With February looming, there are some friendlies that Middelfart have organised hoping to regain some match fitness after the winter break. All eyes will be on van der Westhuizen to see if he can continue his good start to his managerial career.

  23. Winter
In the words words of the Starks, "Winter is coming" or rather winter is here. The end of the first period has brought in a very cold chill. It's usually cold up North, but I haven't known cold like this before. Luckily my house is well insulated and I have a very nice log burner. The locals are friendlier and my neighbours often invite me for dinner. I feel like I am turning the tide with the supporters and feel more driven to make a success of Middelfart.

The mid season player of the year awards have just passed and our captain and leader, Casper Vaerum has landed himself 3rd place. Well done skip!

In order to keep competitive with the new teams we will be facing in the Promotion Stage we have organised some friendlies to get the lads' fitness back up to scratch. We also need to add some more players for depth so I have loaned in a new player from our parent club.

The concerning thing is we were playing poor teams and didn't look convincing. We won a few but I would have liked to have won the rest after the Brondby test. Our next fixture will be the first in the Promotion Stage. I reckon my Danish is not as good as I thought as my assistant has organised another friendly during the main season! Plonker!

The Promotion stages begin this month and it will be interesting to see if we can hold our own against stronger opposition.

    Game one:

Our first game saw us start off with a rapid goal from youngster Mads Raben. He took a matter of seconds to tuck the ball into the back of the net. 3 points see us rise up to second in the table. The odd thing is that we seem to have carried over the points from the first phase of the season. All these twists and turns keep me on my feet!

The odd friendly in among the main fixtures. A chance for our youngsters to prove themselves, a chance for them to show what they can do for the remaining fixtures. Only it didn't go at all to plan, losing 2-0 against a team that struggles to get 11 players on a regular basis is not good. I made sure I didn't walk home alone after the game, just in case some of the villagers decide to light their torches.

Our first of back to back games against league leaders Thisted. Given their form this season I think these guys will be in contention for automatic promotion places. After going 2-0 a formation change was required. We opted for the more successful 4-2-3-1 formation and managed to pull one back via Mathias Thrane. It was too little too late as the chances came but there was not enough time to get the points we needed.

    Game 4:

The second game was a lot better. We started with the 4-2-3-1 formation and got our rewards. Everything happened in the first half, we took the lead twice but were unable to hold onto it.

The upshot of this result has meant a poor month with much improvement needed ahead.

  26. No, no I did not... I will keep this in mind for next season! Not really had to cancel friendlies before.

Cheer man, if the squad keeps fit and we get some solid results it should be in the bag, fingers crossed!

  27. Yeah - if you click to highlight the fixture on the fixtures page, there's a button (on the bottom right on my screen) that says "Cancel Friendly." I tend to use it when my AssMan sorts me a game away to fecking Arsenal when I'm using a Vanarama South side, haha.

  28. April
This is where things start getting tense. We are basically on the home stretch but not comfortable enough to take our foot off the pedal. A solid April should see us go top, but it will be difficult seeing as most of the lads still haven't run off their Xmas weight.

First game sees us take on Frem, who have a massive stadium by the way. We normally have just over 100 fans in attendance but at Frem we were able to back in 6 times that. They have capacity for around 20,000 I reckon. The game was frustrating as we completely dominated. They got a penalty early on through some dodgy defending and it took as an age to equalise. The harder we pushed for the winner the more resolute they were so we came away with one.

We were in cruise control after 50 minutes. Boesen grabbed a brace after loanee winger Yao got us off the mark with a nice little no look finish past the keeper. The 3-0 meant my players forgot that the game is actually 90 minutes long. They scored two quick fire goals and fearing we would drop points I parked the bus quicker than Mourinho on derby day.

A visit to the team we raided earlier this season for a certain Iranian. We started Said out on the wing hoping he could cause some damage. It was his cross that found Boesen to get us underway. An equaliser on the brink of half time meant we needed to work again for the lead. Luckily Frandsen popped the ball into his own net for our winner before the in form Offenberg brought his team level again.

We face the team we started the month off against in a home fixture. I expected a tough game. We gave a full debut to Johanssen who had been impressing in the B team. He looked good and helped us stay competitive. Some managerial genius got out first goal as I changed formation, brought on Weber for Yao and instantly got a goal. We then conceded pretty much right away but it was all part of the plan as Thrane grabbed a winner in the 83rd minute.

A much more successful month sees us secure 1st place. Only 1 point ahead means we will need to go 100% in all the remaining games to secure promotion. Things are looking good though!

Oh and Player of the Month has to be Boesen, the lad was on fire and scored 4 goals in 3 games I believe and now has a healthy 12 goals this season. Not bad for a back up.

YES LADS! Up the Farts! Battered them from start to finish. Boesen just can't stop scoring. He is on fire! Yao has proved a handy little loan signing getting another goal from out on the wing. Cordua scored a screamer of a free kick to add to the misery of Kjellerup.

Our mercurial Danish youngster has bagged yet another brace and is looking unplayable. I am really glad with his performances and the timing of them so I have invited him into the office for a chat about renewing his contract.
He agreed and we have secured his services for next season.

In terms of additions to the squad the one player that stands out a mile and that we could really use is Martin Sondergaard. The experienced defender is well regarded in the league and he is cheap. I am hoping he can tutor some of the youngsters and help us develop the talents in house.

  30. The Run In

Hardly any of the fans can believe how far we have come. In the beginning, it was unrealistic to think that we could overturn the -15 point deficit. Yet here we are in a great position to not only gain promotion but also perhaps winning the title.

    Game 1:
    Attachment 1121494

Absolutley shite. I have not had many opportunities to use fart/poo related puns but we really did shit ourselves in this game. We had were listless, without any real threat and hardly looked like we could do anything right. After going behind we had a chance to get a leveller through our oh so good captain but even he shit the bed. A miss nearly resulted in an immediate counter attack. The more we pushed the more it looked like we were going to concede.
    Game 2:
    Attachment 1121495
After some very choice words, I had motivated them to really up their game. Avarta gave us a game in the reverse fixtures, not a chance this time. Through our main man Boesen we got 3 goals and were unlucky to concede. The amount of cards they collected showed how frustrated they were.

    Game 3:
    Attachment 1121499

What a shit show. Almost like game one, we didn't turn up and got shit canned. Well done lads...

    Game 4:

It's the final game of the season. If we get a win, we get the title. I don't want to put too much pressure on people, the last time I tried getting the lads up for a challenge, they lost 4-0. I can't see another result like that.

What a season lads. I did not expect this at all. I have no idea what is in store for next season but there is a lot of planning to do. Middelfart gain promotion to Division One
In what has been a very surprising turn of events, Middelfart overturned a -15 point deficit to go on and clinch the Division 2 title. With only a handful of losses, the team has gone from a mid table prospect to champions.
This is even more impressive when considering that their manager, Hein van der Westhuizen, is not even a qualified coach.

At the start of the campaign many eyebrows were raised at the appointment of a unknown Englishman with no formal qualifications. The risk seems to have paid off wonderfully as the club has found such success.

As the new season fast approaches, it will be interesting to see what changes the manager will make to his squad. There are rumours that a big reshuffle may be on the card, as we know finances are paramount for debt-ridden Middelfart. More to follow as the season unfolds.

  34. Pre-season
We are already back at it. Back to training after a very long season. I am finding it quite difficult to adjust to this massive winter break and a very short summer. The players are all back at the training ground and we are working to stay in the division this year. I always like to aim high so I would like a mid table finish.

After some housekeeping we organised 3 friendlies, got rid of a lot of players and staff and for the first time since I started our wages are in the black.

My new number two! I was drawn to Ingemann for two reasons. 1. He's versatile and has some good stats. 2. He's cheap. A player and a new assistant all in one!

Definitely one for the future. At only 15 Madsen still looks like a baller. If we can bring him through the ranks and he can chip in from midfield then happy days.

In addition to these we brought Thane and Weber back in on loan from our parent club OB and also signed a few amateurs on. I am still looking for ways to strengthen the team and as we have nearly £2k a week spare, I may dabble.

During the 3 friendlies I tried mixing it up a bit and played some lads on trial who I signed and also rotated to get the fitness up. We won all three pretty comfortably. The lads look raring to go for the competitive season!

As the month of July only featured two games, I have included the first game of August into my report. A combination of our opening two games really. Smidt opened the scoring for Skive and with many yellow cards, Skive were reduced to 10 men after 66 minutes. We tried to capitalise on the advantage and our pressure paid off as Vaerum won a penalty and scored it! A point will do!

So after 3 games in our new league, we have 4 points and not lost!

The only further addition we made worth mentioning is the signing of Jakob Andreason. The winger joins us for a fee of £800 which is quite something considering most of our signings are amateurs. He seems to be a decent player but sadly the board feel like he is a poor signing. Hopefully he can prove them wrong.

Fixtures are starting to come in quicker as we have found with Danish football. They tend to pack the fixtures list around the winter months to accommodate for the break. One of the most positive things from this season is the financial side of things. The money we are getting for televised matches is chipping away at the club debt. The sooner we get into a positive financial position it allows us to do so much more. Maybe apply to become professional, build a new stadium, or maybe even send me on a football course!

What a night. What a game. We were written off by the press, they said our new look team is not up to it. The old guard provided the breakthrough, a lovely flowing move was put away cooly by Salami. Some solid defensive work allowed us to counter attack effectively. Captain Casper Vaerum grabbed our second with a tidy finish and with that our ticket to round two of the Danish cup!

The final game for August sees us take on Jammerbugt in the second round of the Danish Cup. Despite us being in a higher division, I think the home advantage gave Jammerbugt an edge. It was a set piece that opened our scoring, the towering centre back Cordua nodded in a corner. We tried being cautious as I didn't want to risk an early exit in the cup. We set up shop and saw the game out. Our 1 travelling fan was very happy to grab a lift back on the hopping, celebration filled Middelfart coach.

    Monthly review:
Not a bad month at all. 2 wins in the cup. Undefeated in the league, just outside promotion places. This has been a good start, I just hope we can start scoring some more goals as our main man from last season, Boesen has not been able to carry over his form.

High flying Middelfart take giant strides

In what some have called the surprise of the year, semi-professional football club Middelfart have defied their relegation tipped odds by sticking it to the big boys. Last year's Division Two champions have built on their foundations to become one of the leading teams in Division One.

With an incredible run of results, the underdogs have amassed a reputable 18 points in 11 games which sees them lie in third place. They are within touching distance of league leaders FC Roskilde and having only narrowly lost against them a few weeks ago, confidence must surely be high.

Rumour has it that due to the clubs position at the end of the first period they have been rewarded financially. A sum of £161,000 will surely provide some much needed stability for the financially burdened club. The remainder of the season will be a challenge for the small club of Middelfart.

October starts off with an away game and with our 1 trusty fan, we moved out to Castus Park to face HB Koge. Boesen gets a start as we fielded a slightly different team to bring in some rotation. Boesen rediscovered his form from last year and bagged an early goal in the game after Andreasen got injured. We were doing so well, until right towards the end we kept them at bay. A draw is a draw though!

What a result. Considering we were down a goal early on, luckily they lost a man before the break. 2 second half goals saw us claim all three points and move into promotion places!

With the important cup game just around the corner, we fielded a slightly weaker team and it seemed to work a treat against the much fancied Skive IK. Captain Vaerum scored within 5 minutes but the lead did not last long at all. We scored in the last few minutes of the game only to be outdone as Sterring scored a very late equaliser. Unlucky lads.

    Game 4:
On a cold, wet, windy night in Middelfart, we welcomed FC Nordsjaelland to the fortress.
A very promosing start saw us grab a lead through Julius Eskesen. What a start!
We were then careful and set up to hit them on the counters. Robin Soder scored just before the break and at the half time team talk we looked good value still. I said to the lads we can do this, keep working hard and we can beat these.
Sadly it was not to be, it looked like we were getting ready for extra time until Soder struck again via a long ball. He slot the ball past Radza and gave the SuperLigue club a lead. And that is how it stayed. A tough loss but a performance we can be proud of!

Following our cup game loss, we take on bottom side AB. Not much to say really, a bore draw that we should have won.

    Monthly Review:
A very mixed month. Some good results alongside some games we should have won. The positive news is the fact that the board have seen fit to offer me a new contract. I am glad to accept it and take the club further!

Familiar opposition as we are visited by Thisted FC. It has been a real back and forth between two teams with neither one seeming to gain an advantage. We were fortunate to edge this contest thanks to last season's hero Malthe Boesen. I am happy that he is rediscovering his form and hope it continues.

Game two was a bitter pill to swallow. We played on the counter and got very lucky from a corner, Mads Aaquist turning the ball into his own net. We set up to contain the game and protect the lead. Sebastian Krogdahl had other plans however, striking twice in 3 minutes before we could respond. Desperately close but not close enough. Dropped points.

A home game agaisnt mid-table Fredericia. This should have been a routine win, it turned out to be anything but. Mathias Schjodt is meant to be one of our best players but he has spurned far too many goal scoring chances. His negative influence is not doing us any favours. A loss was not ideal and prolongs our run of bad form.

Wow. Unbelievable. I can't fathom just quite how shit we were. I tried everything, tactic changes, subs, team talks and throwing water bottles across the touchline. I just can't get over how poor we were against a team we were meant to beat.

Only slightly more positive news, Boesen scoops player of the year from the Second Division.

Now back to the bad news. We just can't seem to get Salami to extend his contract. He wants far too much money and we cannot afford his ludicrous wage demands and he won't negotiate. Sadly he will leave the club.

We are in desperate need for a turn in fortunes, the winter break may prove useful and we hope to come back to more success in the new year. The player of the month is not even worth mentioning as no one stood up. We do have a villain though, Mathias Schjodt was woeful. He had the cheek to complain about his playing time as well but he just hasn't produced at all. Shocking month all around and probably the lowest moment of my career so far.

It took me a few days to get some space and have a think about how to turn a month of turmoil around. Our horrible form before the winter break meant that we were left with a headache. The boys left for their break and I had some time to rethink things before the friendlies.

Well that went shockingly badly. Out of the 5 games, we should have won 4. Another 0-0 but this one was more disappointing. We played bottom side Vendsyssel FF and we struggled, really struggled. It didn't feel like we were playing a weaker team. Schjodt missed a sitter and still hasn't scored, so I have warned him that I will have to transfer list him if he doesn't sort himself out.

    Monthly Review:
Considering the shite month time we had before the winter, this undefeated run was quite welcome. We are within reach of promotion and with 8 games left, it could be a reality!

Now for the tough game. We are facing the team that has led the table for most of the season. They seem to have gone a bit wayward now and are struggling to maintain their lead. We also face up against our former star player Salami, who was greeted by our fans shouting "JUDAS!". The hostile atmosphere made for a tense game, Bertolt opened the scoring early on in the second half. We were up against it now, the season is on the line. We threw men forward and eventually got something. Tripped in the box, PENALTY! Vaerum steps up, as he has done all season to cooly slot away the penalty! We share the points and importantly we move into first place!

    Game 3:
This is it. The game of games. With just our 1 trusty away fan we took on third place Silkeborg IF. Let's head down to the commentators for this exciting final day.

    Silkeborg IF vs Middelfart
This is what the beautiful game is all about. The table is balanced delicately. If Middelfart win they will secure the title, if they draw it is still possible if results go their way. A loss could see them fall all the way to third place.

20 Minutes: A nervy start from both teams sees little in the way of attacking. Silkeborg are on the counter now, running the ball down the right flank, cutting inside onto the left foot. *Crunch* Ohh, what a bone crunching tackle from Molberg, he could be in trouble here. YELLOW CARD! He is a lucky boy after that big tackle, completely mis-timed.
37 Minutes: The game is still very close here, both sides struggling to make possession count. Now Middelfart have a chance to break with Jul bombing forward from left back, he plays a cute little pass into midfield for Vaerum who is tackled from behind by Vendelbo! Surely that's a card! It is yellow and now a chance for Vaerum to take a freekick. He blazes the shot over the bar.

    Half time:
0-0 at the break. It is obvious that both teams do not want to lose this game. It is finely poised for the second half.

53 Minutes: News just filtering in now from the other game. FC Roskilde have taken the lead, as it stand Middelfart drop down to second place.

61 Minutes: CHANCE! Boesen is played a long ball over the top from Vaerum but is unable to bring it under his control. The keeper collects. Still 0-0.

78 Minutes: OUCH! Another big tackle flying in, this time it is Boesen who goes into the book. Yellow card for the striker and it looks like that is his final contribution to the game. Weber looks to be ready on the side line.

80 Minutes: This game is really heating up, we have seen some strong challenges and it was only a matter of time until someone got hurt. This time it is Middelfart Captain Vaerum with a serious injury. The stretcher is coming on, he landed awkwardly after competing for a header. Let's hope it isn't as bad as it first looked.

84 Minutes: Another yellow card as Cordua is cautioned for another poor tackle. Chances have been rare and the players are fatigued in these tricky conditions as it has now started to rain heavily.

87 Minutes: A chance here for Middelfart. Some patient build up play has seen a gap emerge. The ball is played through from deep and it is Weber who is through here, 1 on 1, he takes it onto his right foot. Keeper dives, it's gone underneath him GOOOOALLLLLL!!!!!! Absolute scenes as the crowd goes barmy! Kristian Weber has taken this game by the scruff of the neck and may have just won the title for Middelfart!

89 Minutes: Silkeborg are in all out attack mode, Middelfart are trying to park the bus. Chance here for the home team, OHHH!! A heavy touch from Salquist sees him try to win it back from Cordua but he goes in two footed! Only a yellow card!

90 Minutes: The whistle goes! The only Middelfart fan runs onto the pitch! They have done it!!!

Only 4 losses this season and a shit load of draws has seen us pip stronger teams to the title. A quite unbelievable feat for a semi-professional outfit that only gained promotion from Division Two last year.

    Monthly Review:
Earlier this season saw one of the lowest points in my career. This month is the polar opposite! Back to back promotions. Back to back league titles. What an incredible feeling and all that with a small team.

Player of the month has to be our Skipper Vaerum. He stepped up when it mattered most, as he has done all season. He single handedly dragged us through games and this month was no different. His calm and professional approach made all the difference. He would also be my vote for player of the year!

And now we start preparing for our first season in the Super Ligue!!

    Middelfart gain fairytale promotion!
It is not often that Danish football makes the headlines but this story needs to be told. In a Leicester like fashion, Middelfart have stunned the football world by becoming Champions of Division One in Denmark. What makes this feat even more incredible is the fact that this was their first season in the division having been promoted as champions of Division 2 last year.

Little known English manager, Hein van der Westhuizen was given the job at the start of the Division 2 campaign. Many local pundits were left in dismay as they could not comprehend the massive risk Middelfart has taken in appointing this unproven and frankly, unqualified manager. The risk has paid dividends and then some as the young manager has brought a wealth of success to the club and has also led them to their highest division in the clubs history.

Middelfart will now begin to prepare for life in the top division of Danish football and will host the like of FC Copenhagen and FC Midtjylland. Odds have already been stacked against the newly established professional Middelfart and they are expected to be in the relegation zone from the off.

Last year's success is only a few months ago but the new season is already upon us. It is going to be a brilliant achievement if we can stay up this year. Our first game is not that far away and we need to get busy readying the squad for the new Super Ligue season.

Our pre-season friendlies were varied. First up we faced last season's opposition AB, we came away with a comfortable win! We then faced our former parent club OB, who have cancelled the link seeing as we are in the same league. Only a 1-0 loss, not too bad considering we have a new team. The remainder of the fixtures were comfortable and included a 7-0 drubbing of a local team as a morale booster. It looks like the team is gelling well, in particular the budding partnership between new man Riel and Boesen looks to be working as the pair have scored over 10 goals between them.

The only hiccup we are facing is the squad registration. Due to our meteoric rise, we have had to get rid of a lot of deadwood. There needs to be 4 players who have trained at the club for at least 3 years. We are currently lacking those 'homegrown' players, hopefully we can get by a little longer with not much difficulty.

    July
This is it. The start of Middelfart's highest ever division campaign. This is an entirely different beast, the teams are vastly more experienced, better established and financially stable than our little club. I have requested to do my National B Licence which the board have accepted, so hopefully I can fly through that. In the meantime some extra staff have come in to add to the quality of the training sessions.
We are working on a new tactic too, the 5-3-2 will be in operation as we look to frustrate teams and stop conceding.

Beciri got us off to a flyer by scoring a beautifully struck shot into the top left. Bjerregaard pegged us back on level terms a few minutes later. Just before half time, new boy Andre Riel showed why he was top scorer in the First Division last year by slotting a tidy low finish past the keeper. We parked the bus but it was not to be as the relentless pressure saw Johannessen deflect a cross into his own net. Robbed of 3 points but at least we got 1.

Another away game, I know it is in August but with 5 games this month, I thought we would do this on in July's report. We set up in the 5-3-2 and looked to counter. We got battered, until a moment of luck. On the break Riel gets caught in the box and the crowd jeers for a penalty! GIVEN! New DM powerhouse Sorensen steps up to give us the lead before half time. For the rest of the game we played on the counter before setting up to contain. This seemed to work as we got the result and our very first 3 points in the Superliga!

    Monthly Review:
All things considered, I don't think the month could have gone much better. 3 games, 0 defeats, 5 points.

We are placed in second at the moment ahead by one game. This won't last. The target is to get to 30 points to secure promotion. 25 points from 30 games? Doable, I reckon.

Player of the month: Andre Riel - Our new striker has started life well. Scoring one, and getting us another through a penalty. Let's hope he can continue this form.

    ninjaskill and kolas79 like this.

  50. Very solid! Doubtless there will be a rough patch or two but that's a damn fine start.
