View attachment 251383As Brendan Rodgers sign a 3 year contract with Liverpool, Swansea sign up their own manager in Ezio Lizi, the Italian-born Englishman. He has played for many teams with the “total football” philosophy including teams like Ajax, A.C Milan and Barcelona; he was one of the few players that followed Cruyff from Ajax to Barcelona. His playing career was cut short just at the ripe age of 25 due to an Achilles tendon injury; he then went into coaching with teams like Ajax and Napoli.

Huw Jenkins wanted a man with the same philosophy as his team to carry on the stability and to remain in the Premier League whilst playing fantastic football.

Ezio Lizi you stand here as the new manager of Swansea, how does it feel?
Im really happy and grateful the chairman, Huw, has given me this opportunity to work at such a fantastic club, he told me straight away what he wanted for this club and I was completely taken by his project for the future.
Huw Jenkins said that your philosophy was a key factor in you becoming the new manager, could you please tell the Swansea fans what your philosophy is?
Well basically I like to play possession football, just like the men before me did. But at the same time add some style and flair to the play, its okay keeping the ball but you have to be able to switch it up if keeping the ball isn’t doing the job, this means having that tactical discipline which allows the players to change the flow of the game if need be, for instance if the midfielder thinks were moving at a too slow pace then he has the opportunity to do something extraordinary, he has the creative freedom to play the way the team wants, I thinks that’s the most important part, having creative freedom.
Will you be looking at the team and seeing if you can add some players?
Well first I need to speak to the players, train with them, see what they like to play and see what they don’t, its important having the players input because at the end of the day they’re the ones on the pitch actually playing whereas I’m the one shouting at them. Ill evaluate the playing staff and if were weak in some areas then maybe you can see some new additions to the team, its all about performance if the players aren’t doing their job then ill get someone else who can.
Has the chairman spoke to you about the budget you have available to you?
He’s mentioned some figures but nothing extraordinary, ill do my job either way, I don’t really care if I don’t get a massive transfer budget, its about getting the players to understand how I want them to play, maybe ill need some new players to facilitate this maybe I won’t. But the budget isn’t important to me.

View attachment 251384Very surprised at the amount of quality these players have, technique-wise they a very talented, can pass the ball perfectly, keep the ball under pressure very well and overall defend good. If there’s any area I’d like to improve it probably the defence seeing as we lack depth there plus there are some areas in defence that for me need improving in terms of finding new players so ill draw up possible transfer targets and send them to Huw, hopefully we can improve this team and keep them in the premier league.
