Hussain Joins Liverpool

HussainJoinsLiverpool.png

In an extraordinary turn of events at Anfield, the board of directors lead by Liverpool’s American owner John W. Henry have decided to appoint the inexperienced Abdi Hussain as Liverpool’s new manager. The 40/1 outsider Hussain has beaten many accomplished managers to the vacant managerial position including Rafa Benitez and Frank Rijkaard. Many have blasted the board’s appointment on the forums and message boards, but many within the club have backed this decision and given Hussain their support.

We will have more on this story as it develops on Sky Sports News.

In this story I will be posting half-season updates of my Liverpool save with yearly awards and league tables towards the end. I will also be including summaries of all the international tournaments.

Hussain's First Press Conference

John Cross, Daily Mirror: Mr Hussain, how does it feel to be the new manager of Liverpool?
It’s a wonderful feeling. Having supported Liverpool my whole life it has always been a dream of mine to sit at the Anfield dugout and manage this glorious club.

Neil Ashton, Daily Mail: This is your first managerial job, do you think your inexperience at such a high level will be a negative factor in the upcoming season?

Well I’ve already spoken to the first team squad and they are 100% behind me and my project. If your focused, and have a professional mentality, then factors such and age, race and in this case inexperience are no hinderence.

Graham Beecroft, talkSPORT: You talk about this project that you will be bringing about, what exactly are your plans here at Liverpool?

I plan to play expansive, attacking football based on strong defensive foundations. I also plan to build a squad for the future so I will be bringing in young players with bags of potential who will hopefully work their way into the first team squad and replace some of our ageing players.
Henry Winter, Telegraph: Liverpool have not played in the Champions League for 2 seasons now, and this season they won’t be playing in Europe full stop. Is a Champions League spot a priority for you this season?

Well that has to be the aim, but we cannot put all our focus into securing that 4th place finish. We must also try to win both domestic cups in order to prevent the problem occurring right now at Arsenal. And of course in the future we’d like to push on even further.
Matt Dickinson, The Times: Is that an indication that you’ll be gunning for the title in the near future?

Of course, that’s my main aim here. Liverpool are England’s greatest club and we need to reclaim our position at the top.
Tom Werner, Liverpool FC Chairman: That is all for today’s press conference. Thank you for your questions.

2011/12 Pre-Season Results & Transfers

Pre-Season Results

201112Pre-Season.png

It was an OK pre-season for us. Of course I am upset with some of the defeats but I did field weaken teams and the margins were very small. What was most important in this pre-season was to get my players’ match fitness levels up.

Transfers

It was a hectic transfer window trying to ship out some deadwood on frees and loans. 3 of my main sales were Kuyt, Rodriguez and Wilson. I needed the money from those sales to fund the players coming into the team, those players where Shaqiri, Jali, Draxler on loan, Ruben Rochina, and my star signing Edinson Cavani. The transfer budget was extremely low for a team as big as Liverpool so I had to pay for Cavani and Shaqiri in instalments.

looking very good nice signings mainly shaqiri and cavani oh and by the way when i've managed shaqiri before he is a trouble maker so be careful with him anyway good luck when is the start of the season update???????????

just finished breaking my fast (its ramadan) so im gona take a rest and update tomorrow. BTW i havent mentioned but i've already played the first 7 seasons of this save and i tell you shaqiri hasnt given me any problems ;)

August/December

What can I say?! After a rollercoaster 3-4 away loss to Spurs, we only managed to lose one more match to Chelsea in the whole period. My signings have really jelled well into the squad and performed admirably. Ruben Rochina has been an absolute revelation for me having signed him for just under £1M to work as a backup striker to Cavani, Suarez and Carroll. His eleven goals have pushed Carroll down the pecking order and a chance in the first team alongside Cavani, with Suarez moving out wide. We are still in with a shout for the domestic treble which would be an amazing achievement.

Little movement here in this transfer window apart from a few loans to gain experience.

January/May

What an achievement! We just came short of the title and we managed to win both the FA Cup and Carling Cup. Ruben Rochina has been outstanding for me this season but my star player has been none other than Edinson Cavani, who scored and amazing 33 goals in 42 games. Hopefully we can push for the title again next season and perform well in our Champions League return.

2012/13 Pre-Season Results & Transfers

Pre-Season Results

201213Pre-Season.png

It was another pre-season with pretty decent results. The high point of with was a dominating 3-1 win in the Community Shield over Manchester City.

Transfers

201213AugustTransfers.png

It was another hectic transfer window this year. There were many releases and free transfers, with my biggest transfer being the sale of Martin Skrtel for £7.5M to Marseille. A massive total of £73M was spent on purchasing players. The biggest being Samba for just under £20M, Aly Cissokho for £14M and Angel Di Maria for a bargain at £12.75M. I have big hopes for Mbaye Niang who I signed for £11.25M from Caen.

An amazing first half of the season! We’ve managed to come through our Champions League group stage (scraping into first spot after some extraordinary results) and the first half of the season unbeaten. I’ve been very impressed with the amount of wins we’ve clocked, showing how much we’ve dominated this season. Edinson Cavani has been on an impressive streak scoring 24 goals!
