FC Midtjylland appoints Ex Red Devils Keeper as Manager

Last week , Patrick Kluivert _ one of Edwin's closest friends _ claimed that Van Der Sar was ready to make his transition into Football Management .

Many clubs expressed an interest , but Van Der Sar's close relations with some of FCM's shareholders , and an opportunity to work closer to his family , paved the way for his move to the Danish SuperLiga minnows .

The charismatic stopper had an amazing career , playing for some of Europe's biggest clubs , like Ajax , Juventus and Manchester United .

Journalist I : It's nice to have you back in Football Edwin . There has been talk about Wolfsburg , Feyenoord and Birmingham ... Why did you choose FC Midtjylland ?

Van Der Sar : Thank you sir . Well i remember Sir Alex Ferguson , always telling his older players , the ones interested in Management that is , like me , Giggs , Scholes or Solskjear , that it's very important to start your career somewhere where you feel comfortable . Ole for exemple went to Molde , the club where he started his career , and is doing pretty well ... He even got offered the Aston Villa Job ! I feel good at FCM ... I know the owners so i'm pretty sure that i'll have full control on Football matters at the club , and the backing of the board .

Journalist II : What are your short term plans ? And do you have any players / staff members in mind to help you take the club to a new level ?

Van Der Sar : Knowing that the club never won the SuperLiga , naturally my main target would be to win it . It would be great to be the first manager in the history of the club to win the league . I also aspire to go as far as possible in Europe .

As for the transfers , there will be a few additions , nothing done yet , but you can be sure there will be a few new faces wearing this shirt comes our season opener against FC Copenhagen .

I appointed Herbert Wimmer as my Assistant Manager . He is a real Football man , won the world cup and Euros with Germany and many Bundesliga titles with Gladbach .... I think we can say that he knows one think or two about Football , huh ?!

A versatile player , comfortable playing in 5 positions , with high stamina and good defensive stats .

PS : I didn't know that he was a smoker until i signed him ! He was free though so what the **** !


Eric Addo - Free

A spirited and experienced center back , he'll most likely be in the starting line up alongside my best defender Kristian Bak Nielsen .

Can also provide cover in the midfield and as a right back .

Levan Kenia - Free

Simply amazing !!! Great playmaker , 20 years old , free , on 4.5 K / week , has explosive change of pace , skills , aggression , and a sweet left foot .

Will play behind a striker in a 4-2-3-1 or as a right advanced playmaker in a 4-2-4 . Hopefully he's gonna create loads of chances for his team mates .

New Additions at the club


Kevin Bobson - Free

Pacey left winger , the Dutchman had a decent spell in the Eredivisie with Ajax , NAC Breda and Willem II . Brought him in for cover mainly .


Strandberg Stefan - 325K P

A solid and versatile addition to the team , can play as a Center back , Def Mid or as a Box to Box Mid .

He is just 21 years old , and has bags of potential .

Jonatan Valle - Free

Creative player , can play on the left wing , as a Striker or as a playmaker .

Has already been impressive since he joined us , scoring 4 and creating 2 in 8 games .


Fixtures and First Eleven

Keeping it simple with a 4-2-3-1 , relying on my two most creative players ( Kenia and Valle ) to create chances for the main striker and for each other .

I also have different types of players in more or less all positions , which allows me to rotate or approach each opponent in a way that will allow me to exploit their weakness .

I also use a 4-2-4 and working on a rigid 4-1-2-1-2 for Europe .

Our start to the season has been decent i guess .

Our Europa League qualifiers were pretty easy , allowed me to have a closer look at the players , and test my tactics .

Our form in the League needs to improve though , we started well against FC Copenhagen , we had the edge actually , and were given two penalties by Mr Kehlet , but Nielsen missed one ( I didn't choose my set piece takers then ) and ended up with just one point .

Same with OB , we dominated but we failed to turn our chances to goals . Good think that we scored 5 against SonderjyskE though .

Tired after the 3-0 win against Levski Sofia , i decided to rotate , but my team selection wasn't very good against AGF , so i paid the price .

Then we achieved two comebacks against two stronger opponents , Aalborg and Brondby before destroying Nordsjaelland 3-0 in front of our supporters .

We are also through to the next round of the Danish Cup after crushing Amateur outfit Odder , 6-0 .

We are in 5th position in the league , 9 points behind Copenhagen , but only 4 behind second placed Brondby ( My target is to finish 2 and play in the UCL next season ) , so all good so far .

Our European campaign is about to start , with a difficult away clash against Italian Giants , Inter Milan .

We'll then play Croatian outfit Dinamo and Greek Titans Olympiakos in front of our fans .

The least we can say , is that this is a very hard group , it will be some kind of achievement if we can qualify for the next round !!!

Player of the month

Sylvester Igboun

The Nigerian hit-man , scored 11 goals in 13 games , and he played some of them as a right winger .

He also signed a new contract with the club worth 1.9 K P per week , that will keep him at the club until 2015 .

... So far .... so good ... so what ?! ​

Yeah he is good , explosive player but he doesn't score when i need him !

He didn't perform against Copenhagen , OB , Inter Milan , or during our comebacks against Brondby and Aalborg !
