I am currently Villa and I have just approached January in 2014, I have around £8m of transfer funds to play with and 100k wages.

last season I finished 13th and felt I did well, only for consistency o be my downfall. This season I fully trained my side in the 4-4-2, 4-3-2-1 and 4-2-3-1 formations and when I beat Man Utd 6-1 at home To take me top of the league after 13 games I felt I was onto something. However that game was followed by a 1-0 defeat to Burnley and a 3-3 draw with Hull.

this go me thinking so I looked at my home v away form so come across this shocking fact:

Home: 5-4-0
Away: 3-3-5

again I find it hard on the road, and also consistency is becoming an issue.

Here is my first team squad:

Asmir Bergovic
David Ospina

Saimon
Ciaran Clark
Raul Albiol
Jores Okore
Jetro Willems (inj)
Diego Renan

Michael Essien (loan)
Ignacio Camacho
Charles N'Zogbia (Lst)
Younes Belhanda
Bressan
Anderson
Adryan
Thomas Ince
Wellington Nem

Andy Carroll (loan)
Leonard Kweuke
Mattia Destroy (inj)
Alberto Paloschi (loan)

so any tactical advise - potential transfer suggestions would be very grateful!

whats your teams approach to away games ie team instructions?

Well I don't tend to change the team instructions to much. Usually man mark, direct passing and ill change the strategy to control if I feel the team to be weaker than mine.

hmmm analyse how your team is conceding so if you can find the main root of how you're conceding you could cut down on goals being scored against you. before the match like soon as you get the scout report on the opposition look at their strengths and weaknesses. nullify the strengths and exploit weaknesses. also maybe a more conservative approach than control away from home

Remember the formation is only 1/6th of a tactic. For example you could have 1 formation which suits your players but other differences can make your team entirely different.

Sorry to sound dumb.. But I've never gone that far into the game.

so what do you mean by analysing how I concede? Going back to every game and see how I'm conceding? Go through every goal? Or is there an easier quicker way I don't know about?

and you say conservative way - when I start messing with team settings I seem to then get smashed.

if you go on your team report then goals you can pretty much find out the information there, you can see what kind of goals you're conceding, where the opposition are getting the most assists from against your team. you can also use the squad depth and comparison age to figure out where you could improve

Having took your advice - Ive looked at where the goals are coming from:

Assists (based on last 50 games):

Corner - 5
Pass - 32
Cross - 18
Mistakes - 7

How would I cut this kind of thing out? Passing goals are surely just good goals?

Its about where abouts the passes come from, if there are mor on the wings chances are you are being outnumbered due to your wide players not tracking back enough or having to high a mentality. If the passes come through the middle then its is a similar case, except the problem will be with your central players.

16 goals from the right
11 goals from the left
20 goals from the centre
7 from inside the area

So would you reccommend I try and bulk out the middle of the park? Maybe play a 4-3-2-1 (wingers formation)?

Or even play Camacho as a Anchor Man?

Brought in Fabio for a stronger left back as Willems is to injury prone and Bennett isnt good enough replacement.

Played the 4-3-2-1 (wingers) control against Championship side Middlesborough and won 3-0.

Next up was Norwich away who are 18th in the EPL. Decided to go with the Anchor man option and standard but again conceded two goals. Drew 2-2.

Remember by changing positions you are changing the tactic, potentially into something which your team are less familiar with.
