I sat on the couch of my house watching the sports news as I thought about my life. It felt good helping the kids with the homework and spending more time with Claire. Retirement had been treating me well. I smiled as I saw my son trying out soccer skills out in the garden and went to the window to watch him try out dribbles and different type of skills. I never knew many tricks, I just knew one thing and that was how to pass the ball and pass it well. I scored a few goals too but I loved passing more than dribbling or a trick that was how I have always been.

Reporters are swarming after Old Trafford after it is being reported that the Glazers have been finally ousted and Manchester United will be having new owners from today onwards. If the takeover does happen, this will be one of the quietest take over’s ever and credit must go to the buyers who kept it this quiet. A press conference is scheduled to happen in an hour and should clear the picture.

“Well this was news”, I thought and turned the TV off mentally setting a reminder to watch the TV in an hour and maybe call a few guys at the Trafford and see If I could get some inside news. The Media always hyped the things up then it usually was.

I switched the TV off and started walking towards the garden to show my son how’s it done for I still had an hour before the Press Conference will be held.​
 
I turned on the TV and put Sky Sports News on as I waited for the Press Conference at Old Trafford to begin. I had called up a few persons but few didn’t pick up and others knew nothing about the potential takeover.
“Could the Glazers finally be the gone”, I wondered. They had made the club their personal money minting machine since their take over or that is what I felt at least and I didn’t think they cared about our history or past. They were at the club just to earn money. After all they were…

Welcome to Old Trafford today as we wait for a Club Representative to come out after we were invited for a Press Conference today here. News is that Manchester United has been taken over by yet another American Billionaire. Also floating are the rumors that David Moyes who had been appointed only 3 months back has resigned from his post as Manager of Manchester United football Club.​

Before I could digest the news, Manchester United’s media representative enters with 3 people all of them in suits but one of them was none other than David Beckham. I couldn’t hide my surprise on seeing him and a small squeal escaped my mouth. The other two faces seemed similar but I couldn’t put my finger in who they were. The cat is about to get out of the bag I thought as all four of them took their seats.

David Beckham – Good Afternoon all of you and Thank you for coming on such short notices. I am sure you will all be curious about the news and rumors circulating since Noon and all of the doubts will be solved in the coming 30 minutes.

Media Statement

David – Manchester United Football Club is pleased to announced that the Club has overseen a successful takeover by U.S billionaires Larry Page and Sergey Brin. Manchester United is now owned by their company Google Inc. Larry and Sergey have not tinkered with the finance and the debt that stood is not wiped out yet, but they are sure that the Club can perform soundly along with the debt as well. Also David Moyes has stepped down as Manager of Manchester United Football Club owing to health reasons. He has currently gone back to Scotland to recuperate and we request the media not to bother in him in his hour of peace. Thank you and have a nice day.

David – Your Questions please.

Sky Sports – What is your role at the club?

David – I have replaced Ed Woodward as the Managing Director. Also Sir Alex has taken the post of Director Of Football to help the new Manager.

BBC – Who will be the new Manager?

David – We have few people in mind but it’s too early to talk about this yet.

CNN – What are your plans for the club? (To Larry and Sergey)

Larry – We have been Manchester United fans for a long time now and we want the club to grow like Google. We want the club to innovate and weave success like no other club has. We want the players to play pleasing, creative football that pleases the eyes and wins us matches as well. We want to develop the youth and we also hope to become the richest club in the world.

Sergey – To add to Larry, we will also be looking to set up Football Academies all over the world in order to promote football as well as make Manchester United the biggest Global Club Ever.

David - Thank you for coming, this will be all for today.

“Well”, I thought “That wasn’t what I had expected when I turned on the TV.” It will be interesting to see who they bring for at the helm. The Google Boys will be good owners and David looks good in suits, this job completely suits him as well. I turned off the TV and went to kitchen for a drink with my wife, the thoughts of Old Trafford now at the back of mind but still present.
 
I was sitting in my living area reading the 1st​ of July newspaper which was dominated by the question of who was going to be the new Manchester United manager. The 1st​ of July meant that the English Pre-Season had officially started and Pundits thought that Manchester United will lag behind due to the lack of a Manager. I personally thought that they will get by just fine, but being a Manchester United supporter, I wish they appoint a new one soon, so the team could focus on playing rather than his media glare. Just as I took a sip of my coffee, a quiet rumble of an engine of an approaching car was heard by me. I put my cup aside and went to look outside the window to see who would be coming to my home at such an early hour but the dark tinted glasses revealed nothing and I went back to my couch waiting for whoever it was to show up at the doorstep.
It was my turn to be surprised again when the door opened, as standing there was David Beckham alongside Sir Alex Ferguson. Following them were Ryan Giggs, Gary Neville, Phil Neville and Nicky ****. I stood there for a while before hastily inviting them in and calling out for my wife and kids. After few minutes of idle chat and drinking tea, I could sense an unusual nervousness among the group. They were all looking at each other, indicating each other but none would speak. Finally Sir Alex took the mandate.

“You’ve read and heard the news I suppose about the takeover of our club and resignation of David”, He said to which I only nodded. “Well what we are here for is to invite you to take over the club”.

“Me?” I asked. “I mean there are many better qualified coaches out there, Ryan is better qualified than me. Sure I have my badges but I haven’t really tried Management and I hate the media and the glare surrounding it as well”.

“We know about that”, Beckham spoke up. “But it is time that we all are re-united at United.”

“So what do you think Paul”, asked Giggs.

Many pundits think that a more experienced Manager would have better sense rather than being emotional about the Managerial decision. Ginger Prince returns with a Sly Grin

I was sitting in my new office reading the Evening News and I must say I was surprised that my interview dominated most of the sports section. My past records and in some newspapers even school records were published. I couldn’t help but shudder at the thought of the interview in the afternoon, there were too many reporters waiting to swarm me and if not for the security they would have. It is not easy being a Manager and being Manchester United Manager is certainly not easy. I stood up from my chair, leaving the newspaper behind as it was time for my meeting with the coaches before the lads come in tomorrow. There are going to be quite a few changes around here and thinking so I left for the meeting room.

Interview Excerpt

BBC: How do you feel sitting here as Manager of Manchester United?
Paul Scholes: Although I still can’t believe it, I can’t help but smile. This is a dream job.

CNN: Why only a one year contract? Does the management not have faith in you?
Paul Scholes: It was I who suggested it so that if I don’t settle, they don’t have to fire me. It also helps me if I want to leave.

ESPN: Do you know who is in your plans and not?
Paul Scholes: Yes, I know who I want and who I don’t.

SUN: What kind of tactics will you be employing?
Paul Scholes: I am looking to play simple passing and attacking tactics. Thank You for coming here today.

Coaches Meeting

I felt weird that the Coaches who used to tell me about what to do and what not to, now I would be asking them to do what I tell them. I looked around at the Senior Coaches as well as the list that I had been provided with naming all the coaches at the club. I scratched out a few names which I felt weren’t up to the mark.

Steve Round was the Asst. Coach appointed by David and he feared for his job. I had looked up on him and he is one brilliant coach but I wanted a more experienced Asst. so I asked him if he would be willing to take up the role of a coach to which he agreed. Before signing the contract, he gave me the team report he had prepared for Moyes. It was brilliant and quite detailed report and helped me assess few of my thoughts as well.

Brian McClair I felt was wasted in Youth Development and I promoted him to Attacking Coach role and Bernhard Peters came in as his replacement. My most important signing however was signing ex-Chelsea Coach Bruno Demichellis as my assistant Coach.

After I had concluded by telling the staff of my hiring/firing decisions, few inputs about youth and set-pieces were given. They were things which I already knew though and we concluded the meeting. I walked out of the meeting room whistling Glory Glory Manchester United as I prepared for the meeting with the team.

I looked quietly from the sidelines as the first-team trained under the instructions of the coaches. I had given all the coaches a very detailed program so as to train the first-team. Adnan Januzaj impressed me very much with his enthusiasm as well as his skill. He will break into my team next year if I am there. On the other hand Anderson still looked unfit and with teams interested in him, I will be looking to sell him. Another player who looked one-dimensional was Ashley Young. Though he is an English International, I don’t think he has the ability to break into my first team especially with Zaha and Januzaj looking so good. Nani and Valencia are good enough for now but if I get able replacements I will sell them as well. I continued to observe the training so as to complete my notes on each player before they leave for their tour to America. Bruno will be going along with them while I complete my transfers along with Sir Alex. Bruno can handle the press for me as well allowing me to concentrate on my tactics and my team.

David De Gea: The young lad has bags of ability and potential. Add to that his willingness to work hard and learn from the coaches. He will be in our first team for at least 10 more years.

Andres Lindegaard: I don’t know what Sir Alex saw in him but he isn’t in my plans. His attitude irks me as well. I am looking to offload him. Big Sam said he might be interested. I hope me and David can encash as high as possible money for him.

Ben Amos: He was touted to be great but he doesn’t seem so great in front of the nets. Maybe a loan move may help him but I will most likely sell him in future.

Fullbacks:

Patrice Evra: The most senior full-back as well as one of the most consistent players since his arrival, Evra’s star is waning a bit but I think he will do for a season or two while we can develop Fabio or bring in a better replacement. His attacking play is very exciting and if we can balance it with his defensive work our left side will be a very tight hole.

Fabio: He is a good rotation option for evra and his ability to play anywhere on the left side as well as right hand side defense makes him an good back-up to have. The one thing I have noticed is that he lacks fitness and also has a hamstring problem. If he can stay fit, he can replace Evra.

Rafael: The other twin has been making steady progress and is a worth replacement of the great Gary Neville. With his attacking instinct and eye for goal he can form a formidable partnership with whoever plays upfront. His tendency to get carded is a point against him but He will be my starting choice for quite long.

Center Backs

Nemanja Vidic: The man from Serbia and Club Captain is unarguably the best defender of the Club. His mere strength and bravery can scare the ***** out of opponent. Being an experienced head he can also help us train our young defenders. When available he will be the first name on the sheet.

Rio Ferdinand: The ex-English captain has still got in him to give a couple of years and mentor the young ones. He can also play as a Sweeper a position I want to make a fashion again.

Jonny Evans: The home-grown Evans is finally fulfilling his much touted position and was a rock at the back last season. He will partner Vidic when fit. His ability to play at both left and right back is also useful. Also he’s the only left footed defender in the team. I like the guy.

Phil Jones: As many have said before me, He’ll be our future captain. With his ability to play in most defensive positions as well as his lean body, brilliant strength and Parkesque Work Rate, He is THE Future. I will have to manage him properly so as not to burn him out.

Chris Smalling: He had a brilliant debut season but then injuries have thrown him way down the pecking order. He’s impressive in training but faces immense competition. I may give him a chance or may be loan him out.​

Central Midfielders

Michael Carrick: He finally came onto his own last season and displayed the oozes of talent that he possesses. Calm in possession and brilliant at moving the play along, he will dictate the play from the center as others around him do the running work. The best midfielder the side has to offer.

Darren Fletcher: One of the old guards and Home Grown player, Fletcher has regressed following his Chronic Bowel disease. He’s still a good rotation option but his stay beyond a year is a question mark.

Tom Cleverly: Another one from our academy who has promise but has failed to show it so far. I have been looking at other midfielders and he’ll have to show me why he deserves to be in the first team.

Anderson: Lazy in the training and failed to take the chances given will be sold.

Attacking Midfielders

Shinji Kagawa: The Japanese is a brilliant playmaker and striker of the ball. He has immense passing and scoring ability. The only problem is that I am not sure about playing a player in the hole. He might need to shift to either of the wings to stay in my plans but will he fulfill promise there?

Adnan Januzaj: He’ll be in and around the first team and will be given chance to prove his merit. His work rate and willingness to learn are excellent. I think he will break into the first team by next year.

Wilfried Zaha: This young prodigy is the best winger according to me in terms of raw talent as well as trickery. He like Adnan will get the chance to prove himself in the team. He can be the next Ronaldo for us.

Nani: Year after year, Nani fails to impress. With Ronaldoesque Skill set his consistency gives him away. The 6 months till January will be make or break for the Portuguese star.

Antonio Valencia: Too one dimensional in my opinion. Most defenders have understood his game making it easy to mark him out of the game. His playing time depends on how well Zaha performs. He will be sold next year.

Ashley Young: With limited skill set and terrible attitude, he will be going out before he can say boss.
 
Robin Van Persie: Easily one of the best in the world, he can cause havoc if he stays fit. He has brilliant creativity and finishing skills along with passing. He can score as well as assist. He will be my main striker.

Wayne Rooney: The Prodigal Son needs to assert himself in order to get ahead of RVP. Lacking in fitness as well as the hunger of past, Rooney will be shifted to the wings or midfield. 2nd​ striker if RVP is unfit.

Javier Hernandez: Unlucky to be competing with RVP and Rooney, he will be used as my impact player. Blessed with terrific game reading ability he can win games for us in seconds. I will sell him if I can’t get him playing time because I don’t want to waste his talent.

Danny Welbeck: Like Nani, he fails to impress. His hard work is admirable but he needs to score if he wants to be in the team. Will be loaned or sold out.

Angelo Henriquez: The young and talented Chilean will have to play a season or 2 on loan before entering the first team. He just has too much competition to play regularly.
 
Dont sell valencia just yet he is amazing! Beyond an AML and DL you get a good squad to start with

Neal Maupay: This young French striker was signed from OGC Nice after watching him play in a pre-season friendly by me. He showed tremendous skill and scoring ability for someone who is only 16. He’ll learn from Robin and develop.

Maroune Fellaini: Everton were interested in Anderson and I in Fellaini so I made a cash plus Anderson. We beat clubs like PSG and Chelsea to sign him. I am very happy to get him as the club needed a tough tackling midfielder who could tackle now that I have retired :D

Kyriakos Papadopulous: The young Greek was offered to me by his agent and he has immense stats as compared to his release clause of only 15 Mn. He can also pay sweeper, a position I want to utilize so a good coup for the team.

Maximillian Meyer: Signed from Schalke, the young German is a star in making. His ability to play anywhere upfront in very useful and his nominal transfer fee doesn’t constitute his ability.

Carlton Morris: The English striker was signed from Norwich for a Nominal fee. He can be a good striker in future and increases our English Base.

Zakkaria Bakkali: Recommended by Adnan, young Bakkali can be a menace down the Left Wing If he can be developed properly. Will spend the season in u21’s or out on loan.

Jack Butland: Another player to add to our English Contingent, Butland is a young and talented keeper and can play the perfect foil to David. He can be rotated with him, giving David the well-deserved rest and the youngster a chance to prove himself.

Ashley Young: The English winger never impressed me and I didn’t feel he was worth paying the wages. He was sold to PSG for 27 Mn. Very happy with the deal.


Anderson: Exchanged for Maroune Fellaini.


Alexander Buttner: I didn’t see him breaking into first team ahead of Evra and Fabio. His talent will now be utilized by Southampton. He fetched me 8.75 Mn.

Andres Lindegaard: The Danish Goalkeeper was sold to West Ham for 6.75 Mn with most money in installments. Still it was a win-win for both me and Big Sam.

I sent many of the younger talents on loan as well to hone their talents and test their skills. I hope they perform well.
