Peterborough United

Upon This Rock, United We All Stand.

It's that time of year again! It's Story time!

This time i'm hoping that i can turn my beloved Peterborough United into a dominant force, will i do it? Time will tell....

I'll be updating in 4 parts every season, with the exception of the first one as I've already completed the half season on the demo! (i'm keen, i know!)

Squad

So then, What kind of squad do i have?

View attachment 461540

That's a good squad! I have two excellent strikers in Assombalonga and Tyrone Barnett, they are both on the same wavelength and at times are frighting to watch! I also have both strength and depth in both the Midfield and the Defence. Morgaro Gomes has been a rock in the middle of the park and with two technical midfielders either side of him i'm very happy with the way our squad is shaping up!

I've been using the 5-3-2 wall of steel tactic and i'm very impressed with it. Both wingbacks are constantly involved in both attacking and defending as well as the midfield being very organized as well as my strikers constantly getting themselves in a decent scoring position.

Next Time - How did my pre season go?

Season 1 - Update 1&2 out of 4

Double Update considering i was so keen as to race through my 'Demo' period!

So First off lets have a little look at how we've been doing in the league.

League

Absolutely insane! Only dropped 14 points out of a possible 72!

The game against Sheffield United was incredibly frustrating, every time we got over the half way line we seemed to panic and lose possession, however our 4-0 demolition of Wolves was extremely pleasing, we were 3-0 after 9 minutes!

I'm a bit concerned that we have dropped 2 points on 4 occasions due to switching off in the last 10 minutes, all 4 of them draws have come from sloppy last gasp goals that have been due to poor concentration on our part.

Overall though, the start to our league campaign has been promising and in 22 games time i hope to be talking to you as champions of league one.

So How has our fine form reflected on the league table?

View attachment 461511

Not bad! six points clear of Wolves in second, and 14 points clear of Crewe in third! Have a feeling it's going to be a two horse race for the title and don't see any other team possessing the quality to mount a serious challenge against us.

So else where how have we been doing in the cups?

Starting with the least important and then finishing with the big one....

Johnstones Paint Trophy

Not the greatest of results, but i'm not particularly bothered seeing as i put out a weak squad with all my fringe players in it and a 16 year old up front.

We put up a good fight against Stevenage and annihilated them on penalties and then a poor performance against Gillingham gave them the opportunity to beat us on penalties and they did so, Hopefully this is the last time we'll compete in the JPT!

Capital One Cup

Superb, managed to dispose of two premier league teams, and in the game against Crystal Palace you couldn't tell which team was meant to be 2 leagues higher than the other, we were absolutely awesome.
Shame we had to lose to Reading, but oh well, life goes on!

FA Cup

Save the best till last! Completely obliterated both Morecambe and Skrill League side Gloucester, with Tyrone Barnett scoring 6 out of my 7 against the latter side! Our performance against Middlesborough is also worth a mention, a superb fight back to move into the next round who we are yet to find out who we face.

Star Performer

This Update, the award of 'Star Performer' will be split between Tyrone Barnett and Britt Assombalonga both have been S**t hot this year (Pardon the French) and have between them racked up 46 goals so far this year.

I'll Leave their scoring records below, but until next time, goodbye!

As a fellow Posh fan I'm enjoying this story, I started a save with them on Friday and am in a similar position. And wolves are 2nd in my league ok, there's a surprise. Who did you sell Zakuani, Rowe and Tomlin to? Who did you sign?

Decent price really, who did you sign and where from?

Season 1 - Update 2

So, just 10 games ago i left you whilst 6 points clear at the top of the league, but did i stay there?

Lets Look at the results...

View attachment 457097

Mixed results, very happy at the games that we've won but need to cut out the silly draws and losses due to stupid mistakes, overall i'm happy, so where does that leave us in the table?

View attachment 457095

Amazing, 10 points clear with 12 games to go, it's our tittle to lose now!

THE FA CUP

Last time we had just seen off Middlesborough in the 3rd round, so how have we been doing?

Well next up we faced Birmingham, So did we advance....?

View attachment 457094

Incredible, didn't look like there was a league between us! We totaled 60% possession and had 2x as many shots as them, absolute domination.

So who layed in wait for Peterborough?

I wondered, and then i saw this pop up.

View attachment 457093

We got the big one! a home tie to Man United! Once again we set up in our usual 5-3-2 and i was very pessimistic about the game, but how did we fare?

View attachment 457092

WOW, Just wow!

This is easily my best result on this years game, although they dominated, accumulated 68% possession and had 20 shots to my 6, we somehow sneaked a win! Incredible!

So who do we face in the next round?

View attachment 457091

But can we advance into the Semi Finals? You'll have to find out next time, chow for now!

Season 1 Final Update

View attachment 455776

Last time we were in a strong position at the top of the table and in the quarter finals of the FA Cup, but could we hold onto the league, could we advance in the FA Cup yet again?

First Lets take a look at our league form.

View attachment 455775

An incredible run in to the end of the season, earning 24 out of a possible 33 points.

So surely we'd stay top?

View attachment 455774

Indeed we did my friends, with an impressive (and record breaking)103 points, we are going up to the championship!

But what about our mazy little cup run...

THE FA CUP

Unfortunately it wasn't to be a trip to wembley for us as we went down heavily at Southampton.

End Of Season Round Up

I'm delighted with how the season panned out, so who was my player of the season?

It could only be one man, his goals were probably the difference between winning the title and coming second.

Britt Assombalonga who notched up 39 goals this season!

View attachment 455768

So how happy were the board with my performance?

View attachment 455765

Nice,

Thats all for this season, check back soon to see how i do in the Second tier of English football,

goodbye for now!

Season 2 Pre-Season

View attachment 455447

After the success of last season i knew that i had a fairly strong squad but still needed to add to it to be able to compete in the league above.

Transfers

View attachment 455443

Assembled a decent squad here, got rid of some of our dead weight and managed to sell off Olejnik for ?1 Million as he wasn't going to get game time after i bought in Schmeichel on a free. Loaned quite a few and they've all done the business so far.

View attachment 455440

That's how my squad looks then! got a side that can definitely compete for a mid table spot this year.S

And finally i'll leave you with the pre-season results, make of it what you will, don't really look for results in these games.

I've started a game as my local side Peterborough United and i decided to approach it tactically the exact same as this,

However despite sitting 2nd after 12 games, 5 points behind Wolves who also have a game in hand on me, it doesn't seem to be working as well for me.

Assombalonga has scored 7 in 13, which i'm happy with, but my supporting complete forward's Jay Bothroyd and Tyrone Barnett aren't scoring as well as yours, Bothroyd has 2 goals in 12, (9 starts, 3 sub) and Barnett has yet to score in 9 games, (6 starts, 3 sub)

I chose a minimum pitch size to accommodate the narrow play along with high league bonus and medium cup bonus.

Any recommendations on how to change it up a little and get my local side into the championship???

Thanks

I'm currently in my second season in the PL with Peterborough after back to back promotions (had to settle for play offs in Champ). Would heavily advise not to sell Rowe or Assombalonga as they cope well in the PL. I finished 14th first season and Brit was my highest scorer.

Just after i sent my post, the performances of some players picked up, Assombalonga finished with 30 goals in 45 games, bothroyd 16 goals in 40 games. Finished the season top of League One by 12 points,

First season in the championship, had an impressive start, was second after 7 games with 6 wins 1 loss. Switched FM off to go back to work, since then I've 4 in my last 16 games. Either the tactics have just fizzled out or for some strange reason my FM has punished me for turning it off.

Now sitting 10th, 35 points from 24 games, plan is to stay up and build the team over a few years before going for a premier league push !!!
