Made a new English league system but I made a mistake somewhere.

I have tried to make a new league system but appear to have made a mess of it and it keeps crashing when i try to test it. says there are too many teams promoted or something. Can anybody help me find out what I have done wrong and what I can do to fix it.

You should have the same number of teams promoting from the lower division and relegating from the higher division. Say, you set number of relegating teams from the second tier to 3, than the number of promotion places in the third tier should be 3 as well.

Does this take into account the promotion playoffs?

So if I have 4 teams relegated and expect 4 promoted. should it be 4 in the promoted teams field and I can still set the playoffs as having 1 promoted from there?

I think I know what I've done. I have set all lower leagues to have the same parent competition, I need leagues that contain sub-divisions for each tier of lower non league.

4 overall (direct promotion + playoffs). And should be some number of lower groups which FM can work with. If you have 4 promoting teams and 5 groups in the level, FM will say that it can't promote 4 teams from 5 groups. If you have 8 groups, I guess the winners play 4 playoffs (4x2=8 group winners) and there you have your 4 promoting teams.

For you to understand this better, you should load England rules. In the editor go to add lower levels to existing structure and choose England. It's the perfect example. Go to Sky Bet League 1 f.e. Stages > Stage 0 > league settings. Than look how they made Promotion rules and playoff rules. Than go to stages>stage 1 and see how they set up the playoffs. I guess this is the way for FM to understand it. If you are familiar with the promoting/relegation system in the English top 5 divisions (which you obviously are) you should understand this.

Note. To see all settings mentioned above you should convert to advanced rules.
