Right, iv noticed that on some scout reports where it shows the CA/PA star rating that some of the stars are black anyone know why?

Yeah, what wkdsoul said.

The player could have a minimum PA reflected by the Gold Stars or as high as the Black Stars indicate.

What I don't understand with the black stars though is that some players in my squad have them and players who are 100% scouted have them. So is it like a "yeah we've scouted him thoroughly and know he has the potential to be 3.5 stars but hey, he could turn out to be 5 stars and one of the best players in the world..."

Just isn't perfectly clear, especially when some average players CLEARLY aren't ever going to be a 5 star player.

Are they young players?

The star rating isnt compared to the rest of the world just your team. He's a 3.5 player for you, but maybe the star man (5 stars) for a lower level team.

The black stars are to represent he may be with the right training/playing time and avoid injuries. Its no guarantee. Its much more reflective of real life, why would a scout after 1 weeks view know exactly how good a player will be if you buy him? he may get homesick or break a leg in his first game and never make the level before. i much prefer the new version, should have been put in years ago.

Yeah that's basically what I was referring to in the post above yours. It's matter of potential the scouts are unsure about.

The ones I've seen, yes. The threshold seems to be 22 years of age. After that, I only get gold stars.

Makes sense. It's probably to simulate uncertainty in their potential when they're young.

Exactly. And further scouting doesn't necessarily "solve" it.

Yeah, so let's say a player has 3.5* yellow potential but 5* black potential... does this mean the players in question has a PA likely to exceed a 4.5* player in my quad or not? Some players are just clearly not going to ever become THAT good in my team. I can understand a half star or maybe even one star variable, but one and a half stars is just a tad reckless IMO.

The younger a player is, the harder it'll be to be tell exactly what their potential is. Freddy Adu, anyone?

He's currently a good player for you (3.5) and with growth (depending on his age) training (depending on your staff) and gametime (depending on you) and avoids injuries. Yep he could be a main/star player in your team (5 stars).

The 1.5 diff may go down as the scout staff watch him more and see how he starts to pan out or with better scouts.

I guess it's something that makes the game a bit more difficult to pick out/nurture a real talent! I'm not complaining really. It's a pretty nice addition, it's just I know some players have no chance of reaching the black star potential no matter what I do!
