I cannot stop conceding from corners and free kicks and it is derailing my promotion push.

Every goal bar three have been from setpieces in the following screenshot:
View attachment 330985

United(H)--Di Maria long shot from corner clearance,Penalty from a corner
Middlesbrough(A)----Three Tomlin corners to near post area,Tomlin longshot, other one was winger played in by Tomlin.
Man Utd(a)--Corner to farpost, headed back towards nearpost by Luke Shaw and put in by Phil Jones.
Ipswich(h)--Corner=penalty,freekick blocked by wall was passed to unmarked player around the leftish edge of the area
Brighton(a)--Nearpost corner,shot blocked by keeper,backpost tap in.
Fulham(a)---Nearpost corner put in by their striker.
Blackpool(a)--Long throw, collected at around penalty area, passed to player at backpost for tap in,direct freekick, blocked by keeper put in by a player standing alone parallel to the wall, penalty from a throw in,corner put in at the farpost.

Basically,14/16 goals conceded are from setpieces.
Up until the fulham game,I had the default settings.striker forward, two central defenders on mark tall, fullbacks on posts and everyone back.
Before the Fulham game,I changed to fullbacks on posts, striker forward, one winger on edge of area and one on close down and rest on back.

If anyone can help me,it would be greatly appreciated as this is getting very frustrating.

i know what you mean, i just conceeded 6 goals in 2nd half all from corners.....

Yes you can (no, it's not the Obama quote 8-|), it's always zonal marking when you don't set specifics

oh right, I didn't know that. I never set specifics for defending free kicks. Still defend them horrifically, however.

try to form a wall with four players and the rest just to Go Back (this Go Back is the zonal marking, then it's up to your players being good or not... and you're always going to suffer some set goals from set pieces, no matter what)

Completely agree with last statement.
Thanks for the info, think SI maybe should make the defending free kicks a bit more specific, because "Go back" doesn't really suggest Zonal Marking, cheers!

yeah a lot of things don't really suggest things as they really are (something that could be improved to make the game more user friendly), but there's always some tactical mod at the SI forum creating great threads to shed some light on these issues.

I remember watching Glenn Hoddle (everyones favourate manager........) on TV talking about how important set pieces are.

the key things he spoke about were angles and how to defend from certain types of set pieces. anyways the points he made were along these lines

Corners, long throws and free kicks from wide area's it is more important to defend space and make sure the players are attacking the ball inside there area. Zonal marking is key for these types of balls into the box. It is easy to cause congestion when man marking, following player runs etc and bumping into other players leads to mistakes and poor defending.

free kicks from anywhere else requires man marking. This reduces confusion when opposing players begin runs crossing over "zones" instead of passing players on or there being overloads in certain zones. each player has there man and sticks to them.

wether or not this concept translates into FM or not it is still something to consider as there seems to be issues with players conceding lots of goals every year from set pieces until the status quo's "perfect" routine is set up
