I'm playing a 4-4-2 diamond with attacking full-backs who are often left exposed on the counter. I'm actually not conceding a lot and have dropped a DM back to assist, which is helping, but what I am finding is an increasing number of fouls leading to yellow cards and more reds.

In my first season I was starting to get messages about foul count and after matches the press conferences would focus on the tackling, I'd also get opposition managers whining about it (which to be honest did not discourage me from sending the players out there to rough up the opponents a bit). I didn't get that many bookings though (ie, other teams are dirtier).

Second season seems to have seen a lapse in discipline with a couple of reds already. I've got team instructions with "close down more" and "Stay on Feet" set. Any ideas on how to reduce the foul count?

Haha I have the exact same issue mate! Not been too annoying yet as I have been winning but I will have to sort it out if it affects the form.

Just had a thought, are you setting the assistant manager to do opposition instructions before a match?

If he is telling a few people to go in hard on some players, they may be picking up cards.

After posting I noticed that my *** Man (Mauro Tassotti) was telling them to go in hard on quite a number of players - think that may be the cause and I'll have to get them to ease up a bit and focus the efforts on no more than 1 or 2 at a time.

I do quite like having a side that plays silky, flowing, attacking football but has a bit of an edge :)

In my most recent match my *** Man was warning me about the foul count. The recommendation to correct was to remove "stay on feet" - have I completely misunderstood what that means?

Number of fouls increases with mentality...TI get stuck in will get you cards, and stay on feet will get you fouls. OI may be set to tackling hard, which will also get you cards. Wrong setup of roles and duties may also make it tough on a player causing him to get injured or fouled.
