Hull sign Dutch striker Jan Vennegoor of Hesselink on a two-year deal.

be a good player 4 them esp 4 a free transfer wont score much but will bring loads into play

I reckon he will do well. Alot of Celtic fans hated him for being slow and he isnt a worker but if he scores goals that shouldnt be a problem

OMG this proper freaky! The other day I sent an email to sky sports news saying that Jan Vennegoor Of Hesselink was at the KC as a joke and today they signed him! so i have sent them another saying they should give me a job as a reporter as no-one else saw this coming

i thought Browny must've had something up his sleeve, hopefully we can sign Lucas Neill and Bolo Zenden as well

Good for a free transfer. But hes pish. Only really good for distracting opposition deffenders while other players get unnoticed.

This man is a legend on the game though. I signed him for my Wigan side first season and he had 21 league goals. He is deadly in front of the net and his heading is second to none.

Be interesting to see how he fairs against the more speedy of defences but I bet he can give Vidic and Terry a bit of bother in the air.

I wish "Big Jan" was my dad :p

Vidic and Terry will put him on his ****. He couldnt head the ball if his life depended on it. Not on target anyway.

I spose I shouldnt be so harsh on the *****. We will see how wel he does but I hope he performs beter for them than he did for us.

He won you boys the league with a header if I remember correctly? ;)

Didn't he also score with a header against Barcelona in the champions league as well?

i remeber him scoring quite a few goals in the champs league for celtic

personally i don't like the lad. It's a good buy but i just don't like his style

Most confusing name in the world.

I thought his name was Vennegoor but he lives in a place called Hesselink, and just insisted it be printed on his shirt.

Honestly, I thought it was like me having 'Redrup of London' on my shirt.

/Facepalm

bit stupid innit? Jan Vennegoor'd be much shorter an easier to fit on a shirt.
and for having your name and where you're from on printed on the shirt I think I win when it comes to the longest name, Luxford-Charnock of Stockport ^^)

Jan Vennegoor of Hesselink's name derives from the 17th century, when two farming families in the Enschede area of the Netherlands intermarried. Both the Vennegoor and Hesselink names carried equal social weight, and so — rather than choose between them — they chose to use both. "Of" in Dutch translates to "or" in English, which would mean that a strict translation of his name would read 'Jan Vennegoor or Hesselink'.This could be considered as having the same effect as the double-barrelling of English surnames.
