having a MAJOR issue keeping clean sheets, into my 6th season now and simply can not keep a clean sheet which is hampering me from taking my team forward, literally tried every thing to sort this, I have players with stats no less than 18 in my defence for defensive stats and still no joy! played fm for past 15 years and find this very frustrating. im clued up on tactics and understand how to work them (well I think I am) but this is very frustrating. surely other uses have this problem as most of my friends do also

Had a similar problem at the start of this FM compared to previous versions but it seems that in this one the focus is on team sync and player roles and if in doubt its best to keep it simple in the tactical department. Could you post screen shots of your current formations and roles/tactics you have assigned and during game tactical instructions/team talks that you issue as this will help people give you more in depth advice to suit your team.

PS i found that you should also stick to a tactic for at least 15 games before your team starts to mold into it and try to re-frame from chopping and changing to much.
 
just play with a back 4 and a holding player in front which I use as an anchor man, both central defenders are set as central defenders/defend with no player instructions and both full backs are set as full backs/support with closed down less and cross more often.. on my actually team tactics I use tight marking and close down more which I use on every fm.. cant actually take screen shots at the minute as im not on my game but its pretty basic stuff and not to complicated! very frustrating ha
 
Only thing i can notice from that then is that perhaps taking of the close down less instructions from the fb's due to the team instruction of closing down more. I found that just playing a dm support instead of anchor also helps due to the fact that he can prevent the initial build up of the attack faster rather then hanging back the entire time and sits in a nicer position.

When you have a lead in game at the 75 min mark the AI team gives it everything to try and turn the score around so i find changing to a contain and retain possesion tactic with time wasting works best from that point on. When do you find that you concede the most goals and how? (set pieces or through balls etc?)
 
theres no set time when I concede I just concede at any time. going through seasons conceding 70plus goals and scoring 80plus. yeah I use them tactics when winning and that seems to work, it shouldn't be this hard to not concede goals when I have good stat players.
 
If you're conceding that much overall, the tactic is poor. Post up the complete tactic and maybe even a PKM of a really poor game.
 
not saying im an expert of the game but I have a good knowledge of it from playing on it for 15 years and ive never came across this before, I use the same defensive structure for the past 6/7 fm games and always do well. win league titles for years in a row and champs league etc, but I know different fm are different and ive tried to change certain things but no difference! surely though even with a basic tactic which I have tried defenders with stats no lower than 18 shouldn't concede this amount of goals, defensive midfielder with positioning and tackling 20 also makes no difference
 
i suffer from this bull **** all the time! me and 2 of my friends have a network game going (I'm liverpool theyre spurs n everton) and in 11 games between me n spurs theres been 96 goals.. one game i was 5-1 up at half time, then he beat me 6-5... laptop lived a dangerous life for the rest of the night!
 
also i found the best thing to do is just score more than they do.. sign Timo Werner and you'll get minimum 40 goals a season. he had 17 starts for me in 2nd season and finished top scorer by a distance

It's much more than just looking at the defence. The other players have to defend as well.

that's true ive even tried sitting my wingers a bit deeper, and defensive training weeks on end, there must be some sort of fault because a load of people complain about this..

can I ask. what is your experience of this and what do you play?

Im not an expert, even im asking help myself but as I see it in this fm the thing it's the pressure you do I watched rivals get through the middle of my defense like butter cause they were just going back, I told them to drop deeper and closing down but not so much! Put a defensive guy in the middle with lots of physical attributes. Thats other thing I saw physical attribute seems to be more important too, young players just fall to the floor even with a kiss and for example klose holds the ball marvelous.

I don't have problems defending. I play whatever formation suits the squad I have. I set up a basic working tactic and just tweak according to what I see.
