I have three amazing midfielders with me at southamtpon, and going well. However, I find them inconsistent with performances. Esp with Gil Romero. I see some people have amazing stats with all 3 of these players, racking up assists galore. I dont expect too many goals from them. But i would like them to have more assists in the game.

My finishers/strikers are Depay, Fierro & Barbosa. I also just signed Luka Jovic. So all of them are great players & finishers and usually save the game for me on more than one occassion.

I am wondering if anyone can help me with getting the best out of my midfielders.
1. What role is best?
2. Position on pitch
3. Training
4. Individial training focus / player moves

Or any other helpful advice. I am on the end of my second season and I want them to do better next.

Lucas Romero was brilliant for me in the DM position as a Ball winning midfielder. Didn't have a bad game.

Lucas Romero seems to play unreal as a roaming playmaker for me far too good to just be a ball winning midfielder

I have him in a DM position playing as a roaming playmaker, does the business for me.

Romero was mediocre for me as a ballwinning midfielder, but has been really good and consistent as a roaming playmaker now. Playing him next to a box-to-box but with a deeper DM-position so that he can strike from a deep position and contribute more in defence.
Gaston could work as a ball winner next to him otherwise, did a great job for me in that role at my Wolves-save.

Gil-Romero good as a BWM, and Wardprowse i'd say AP or CM with attcak duty

Thanks guys, for the feedback. Let me try train them in your roles mentioned, and see how my third season goes.

I have Gaston Gil Romero as a box2box. top 3 best players in Serie A for the last 2 season and nominated for the Argentine player of the year beside Messi and Tevez ;)

I played Gil Romero as a Regista in my Sunderland save and he was amazing...eventually moved to City for £55 Million plus!

I play Lucas Romero as a CM-support next to Pogba as an AP-Attack with Gil Romero in the DM position as BWM- Defend and works amazing for me, dont have ward prowse to comment.

Lucas Romero usually turns out the most talented of the 3. He places well in just about any midfield role. I liked him best as a DM who came into the box late to bang in a lot of goals.

Don't forget Sergi Samper. Get him on loan and you can make it permanent in the 3rd season for free. He has great tackles and scores powerful shoot for sometimes, which Gaston doesn't do. I have both of them beside Florenzi in the midfield of 3. Ruled Serie A with Sassuolo and reached UCL final last season (3rd)

look like Gaston is the easiest to sign among the 3. Haven't got a chance to play Lucas. Btw, I have just signed Lucas Otavio for a low fee. Any idea how will he be improving and playing?

tony, im afraid that just taking the advice in this thread may not help you much. The success of your tactic is all about balance, so in order to tell you how to most effectively use those players, we really need to see how you use the rest of your team.

For instance, if you are scoring 100+ goals a season and its all coming from your front 4, thats ok, but its going to be difficult to find more assists for your CMs without adjusting the mentality of your more forward players.
