A Dying Club - Stockport County

Stockport County Football Club is a semi-professional football club in Stockport, Greater Manchester, England. Formed in 1883 as Heaton Norris Rovers, they adopted their name in 1890 after the County Borough of Stockport. They have played at Edgeley Park since 1902, traditionally in blue and white, and are nicknamed The Hatters after the town's former hat making industry.
Stockport County joined the Football League in 1900 and competed in it continuously from 1905 to 2011. Having spent most of their history in the lower reaches of the Football League, the 1990s were more successful with the club competing in the First Division for five seasons. Instability on and off the pitch led to Stockport quickly falling back to the lower divisions. The club started the 2011–12 season in the Conference National, having been relegated from Football League Two at the end of 2010–11. They are currently the longest survived Football League team to drop out of the league, having played in the league for a total of 110 years. At the end of 2012–13, Stockport were relegated to the Conference North, 11 years after they had last competed in the second tier of English football, becoming the only team to drop from that tier to the sixth.

Here is a fact file on Stockport County.

Stockport County are currently playing in the Vanarama Conference North. In the 2009/10 season they were in the Football League 1. A lot can change in a space of 5 years, and that change was at Stockport. Why did this happen? Administration. Stockport back in 2009 went into admin after failing to pay debts to Her Majesty's Revenue and Customs and also had to put their clubs training ground up for sale. A consortium called Melrose Consortium were in talks to take over the club at the end of the 2008/09 season but never did and at the end of the next season a group called 2015 Group had taken over at Stockport as new owners and they pledged to "rebuild the club from top to bottom". This never happened evidently. From then on Stockport suffered a consecutive relegation to the Conference Premier and in there first season in the Non-League they finished 16th when they were predicted to finish around the play-off places. The next season saw them be relegated for a third time in four years making them a Conference North club. Their first season in this division they finished 14th, a club that was in League 1 only four years ago at that time finished 14th in the lowest level of the Conference, people started to notice Stockport County were starting to die out.

Fans of the club were unhappy with the new chairman's decision to bring in an inexperienced and young manager.

"This young lad might be good at video games but not real life coaching. I don't see this helping our situation!"

"How old is he!? Is this Taylor bloke sure this kid can bring us glory?"

"TAYLOR OUT! Awful chairman, he has not got a clue!"

Chris Taylor said to Stockport Express "I believe this young lad has what it takes to manage this club and take them back to the big time. Yes, he may be inexperienced but we have been monitoring this young coach and he sure knows his football and if he uses this knowledge when coaching Stockport, god knows what could happen to the club."
