INTRODUCTION

Welcome FM fans, its James here presenting you once again another tactics system. As you know me, i like to provide an in-depth OP on my tactics, so lets get started.
NOTE: THIS IS NOT AN EXPLOIT OR PLUG AND PLAY TACTIC, YOU NEED THE RIGHT PLAYERS FOR THE RIGHT ROLES AND NEED TO GIVE THE TACTIC TIME TO BECOME FLUID.

TACTICAL INSPIRATION

View attachment 292168View attachment 292167

In creating this tactics system, i have taken hints of the South American flair and free flowing attacking play of Manuel Pellegrini's Man City, particularly the wingers moving into the channels, and the pressing shape of Jorge Jesus' SL Beonfica. The tactics aren't identical to Pellegrini's and Jesus' teams as they are both very different in real life, these are just hints from the both their styles combined with some of my own tactical ideas. For example, the player roles in the tactics aren'tt trying to recreate the Man City/Benfica player roles, or the pressing isn't relentless pressurising the defence and goalkeeper, its more keeping team shape and working as a cohesive unit to win the ball back.

THE TACTICS

Main tactic - 4-2-2-2 (Advanced playmakers)

This tactic is about utilising the wingers as "interiors" as passion4fm described them in their Pellegrini FM14 tactic. The majority of play is down the wings and channels, more importantly, controlling the attacks, which is the main task of all 3 tactics. The strikers will float in and around to the box to help creating chances and latching onto crosses from the wing backs who have space to get forward as the wingers sit narrow in the channels.

Secondary tactic - 4-2-2-2 (Wingers)

This tactic is used when your advanced playmakers (AMR's & AML's) are injured so you only have your out and out wingers left, or you see that the opposition may have particularly slow defenders, or perhaps against harder teams at home. The two strikers drop deep to hold the ball up and drag defenders out of position so that the wingers can get in behind the defence to create either crossing or goalscoring opportunities.

Counter tactic - 4-2-3-1

This tactic is used for very hard games away from home, particularly if the opposition have strong numbers in midfield. It's more or less similar to the secondary tactic in terms of how the team plays, however there is an AMC to help fill the numbers in midfield to stop being overrun so easy.

IMPORTANT - OPPOSITION INSTRUCTIONS

DO NOT LEAVE THEM TO ASSISTANT MANAGER!!!

HOW THE TACTICS PLAY

Training

Pre-season:
Balanced - Very high (50%) no rest before or after games - Match prep: Match tactics

During season:
Balanced - Average (20%) rest after game - Match prep: Attacking movement or Defensive positioning depending on strength of opposition

Individual training:
Train players to roles of tactics

Player roles

Goalkeeper
Standard - will get involved in building play from the back. Needs to have good distribution.

Wing backs
Will provide width and always look to get forward. Need to have a fair amount of pace, obviously the more the better.
Examples: Zabaleta/Clichy

Ball playing defenders
Need to be fairly good passers of the ball, mobile in order to mark attackers and defend properly.
Examples: Vertonghen/Pique/Ramos

Ball winning midfielder
First part of the midfield "shield" as i like to call it. Will look to protect the back four and winning the ball back in the midfield third, and play simple passes to teammates. Needs to be strong, hard in the tackle, and have good positioning.
Examples: Fernandinho/Khedira

Deep lying playmaker
Second part of the "shield". Initiates the attacks. Needs to have good passing and vision.
Examples: Xavi/Verratti/Pirlo

Advanced playmakers
Basically Silva's role at Man City!
Examples: Silva/Nasri/Cazorla/Cabella

Wingers
Need to be pacey and have reasonable finishing and crossing of course as they often get in behind the defence.
Examples: Navas/Walcott/Bale

False nines
Get involved with build up play and finishing off attacks, need to be creative, strength helps a lot particularly in the secondary tactic.
Examples: Aguero/Dzeko/Ayoze Perez

Mate it's hard to identify what tactics Pellegrini is actually using atm.

Thank you for sharing your work.

I have a question for you. I see that you wanted to emulate interiores. Why did you choose Advanced Playmakers? In FM15 there is a new role for ML/MR position called Wide Playmaker, its descriptions fits interiores description, I would expect WP to do what David Silva does now. One more question, why do you use x2 False 9 and suggest Dzeko or Aguero there, players who are different types of strikers?

I understand your points, however these tactics are not directly trying to emulate Pellegrini's tactics. As I said in the OP, I'm only taking hints of Pellegrini and Jesus' style. Same reason for the false 9's. Maybe I didn't explain it very well...

Haha, these tactics aren't directly trying to emulate Pellegrini's tactics. They are hints of his style, same with Jorge Jesus.

wide playmakers didn't work for me when I tried them

Haha I know mate only joking. The TIs look quite close to how we played last year tbf, unsure about some player roles, but like you said this isn't an exact recreation so it doesn't have to be exactly the same. Looks good mate

haha cheers mate.

James1517, Yeah I understood that you are not emulating directly, just asked why you made this choice, because I have been trying to create something similar (Pellegrini at Villereal) and had no success. :) WP never worked for me either :D

He did a good job at Villereal, be interesting to recreate that. And WP worked for me.

ellismcfc, shame he's a bit lost recently and his system doesn't work that well, I really like him as a tactitian, not so much as a motivator though :S
If you are good at tactics creation, I'd love to see Villereal recreation, or 13/14 season City (something what OP did but tweaked to suid City's default squad).

He's been horrific tactically this year.

and tbh last year we weren't that great either. Had the best squad

I'm assuming go you mean his Villarreal 4-3-1-2 with Riquelme as AMC. He switched between that and 4-4-2 and 4-2-3-1. I like how he mixes a modern, fluid and attractive style with old fashioned formations. I hope City stick with him as I think he's a very good tactician and man manager. Can't just right him off after 1 bad season especially what he did last season. Give him time.

Ellis, if you don't want him I'd happily take him at newcastle haha :)

Think he'll struggle to last till the end of the year if we play like this, you're welcome to have him haha!

Yes James1517, that tactics. Oops I misspelled Villarreal horribly.
I don't think there is a clearly better realistic replacement manager if Pellegrini is sacked, so I think unless he fails horribly in remaining fixtures he will stay.

Wouldn't be surprised if they went for Simeone
