Now over the past 2 games (Tottemham and Liverpool) United have played the best football they've played since Fergie's retirement. As a United fan it has been fantastic and refreshing to see fast and excellent football. I don't want to get carried away because it's only 2 games but i think we're seeing the reason why Van Gaal has been brought in. He has finally found the way he wants United to play. I've decided to try and replicate the way United have been playing these past 2 games because it's probably the way we're going to play going forward.

Now of course all of this is a matter of opinion. I'm still stuck on Carrick (DM) Herrera (RCM) and Mata's (AMR) roles. Sometimes it looks like Carrick played as a Half Back, sometimes DLP. Herrera seems to play a little deeper than Fellaini does (LCM) but he does move into those channels to support Mata and Valencia. Mata's role if probably right at IF but he could also be an Advanced Playmaker i feel.

I am just about to start testing this tactic so obviously i don't have results yet, i'll leave the tactic down below if anyone would like to test. Of course leave your opinions on how United have been playing and if you feel the roles should be different.

Not sure about how well it will work in the long run, can't see Mata working out right.

Ive always used Mata as a right sided winger/inside forward tbh, hes solid there.

Not sure actual United are playing "wider" tho, it seems a combination of narrow/wider.

i was honestly not impressed by Utd's performance against Liverpool.. they were pretty good vs Spurs though

I found them pretty good in the first half personally... also in the tactic do you have the Fellaini role?

Yeah i definitely agree, it is a combination of the two. When Young and Mata don't have the ball they do seem to play very wide then are narrow in the last 3rd of the pitch which is why i thought they'd be better as inside forwards

I wouldve said if I had to guess in the FM equivalent that Mata was either a AP on the wing or a WM.
