Former French international Youri Djorkaeff has today been announced as the new manager of Armenian Premier league side Gandzasar Kapan. The former Monaco, PSG and Inter Milan Star will return to his mothers homeland in an effort to raise the profile of a league which is ranked lower than his homelands 3rd Division.

Djorkaeff who in his illustrious career has won 1 Coupe de France, 1 Trophee Des Champions, 1 Cup Winners Cup, 1 Uefa Cup, 1 World Cup and 1 European Championship has never ventured into management before now. He caught up with the press outside the Gandzasar Stadium.

Press - What made you decide to take over as manager of Gandzasar Kapan?
Youri - Armenia has always been a big part of my life, i have visited family here many times before with my mother. I have always wanted to get into management but so far a suitable role has not presented itself. A couple of weeks ago i received a phone call from the chairman asking if i would be interested in an interview. Things went well and we both had similar ideas on how to progress the club so i was offered a 1 year deal here.
Press - What kind of influence can you have at a small club like Kapan?
Youri - I will bring a lot of experience to the role. I have worked under some superb managers and have learned some great management techniques. I feel i am the right man to bring Kapan to the net level.
Press - What does your presence bring to the league as a whole?
Youri - Well a world cup winner managing in your country can be a bad thing can it? haha
In all seriousness this league has the potential to grow and if i can help that in any way then i certainly will. Thanks for all your questions, its time to get to work!
