Hi. I'm trying to get the front 3 of a diamond formation to work best for my players. I had a SS + 2 Treq at first which was fine but ideally I'd prefer to play one of my front 3 to be a poacher as being a lower league team it is difficult to find the players to fit such all rounder roles. At the moment, I'm experimenting with DLF(s) + Poacher + AMC( a ) with a couple of Box to Box players behind but I'm by no means convinced yet.

Any advice on this matter would be muchly appreciated.

My advice is to think about how you want the front 3 to function and how that will work with the rest of the players. Then try implement that and watch games to see if the players are doing what you want.

I have found a shadow striker very effective in this game, not an out and out striker but plays in the AMC slot, might be worth a look :)

I remember using a very effective front 3 on a past version of the game that still had sliders. The trick was to set two of the forwards to start in very deep positions, with the third staying higher. That sounds like what you're thinking with a DLF. You could also try a target man in the center (should be easy to find strong players for lower league teams) and then have two forwards running off that (maybe set as poacher or advanced forward. That way the TM would always have multiple passing options.

Without having seen your tactic: A poacher requires having space to run into. He's always on the edge of the offside line as it says in the description. If you then combine that knowledge with the fact that you have box-to-box midfielders who (especially with go further forward) dive into space, an AMC A who will dive into space. Anyway, you get the picture, there is no room for the poacher to operate in.

I noticed WJ is convincing everyone to read the stickies on the SI forums and I can't agree more with him. The information in there is vital to understand the ME and how tactic creation work in the games. Have a look at them and I am sure you can find the pairs and combinations (hint) that youj need described in there.

PS: And in the end consider if your players can play the role you give them.
