Hey guys, been on here loads.

BUT I CAN NEVER EVER CREATE A GOOD TACTIC.

All I wanna do is create something that works. I don't mind downloading tactics but then it starts to feel as if I've just put in an all weapons cheat and infinite health on GTA or something.

Anybody point me in the right direction?

I just wanna make a good 4-4-2 for counter attacking football, or just any counter attacking type of play.

I tried Guide To Football Manager's website or whatever but the counter help just never works for me.

EDIT: But if you have any good tactics for what I requested throw them my way!

It's not bad if you download other tactic . Actually , It's really good but don't just download and then do nothing . You must see how the tactic work and why it work . And then tweak it to fit your team . Play the game with the tactic but also improved it because even the creater maybe don't know the power that hidden inside of that tactic . If you can't create a tactic , it okay , there's nothing wrong with that .

That's something I'm not going to get into. All I'll say is that the links I posted will help create tactics that are consistent on any version and any update because it's grounded in football logic.

Watch the full game, or at least on comprehensive, to begin with. Don't set any team instructions or player instructions. 'Start from scratch'. Every team is different, every player is different. What will work with one set of players won't work for another. As for mentality, use your basic knowledge of football to assess the situation, your opposition.

Things wont fall into place just because you've watched a full game- you will have to use sense when making a tactic with balanced roles, don't just select instructions for no reason. Wait until the game gives you a reason to set them.
hope this helps.

I would also agree with what everyone has said. Watch the games closely, read those guides and a last tip is if you are finding trying to play a certain style isn't working, do what most advise to, look closely at your squad more. Pick out key players you could build a formation around.

I remember having a player who my assistant said was best to play AML as an Inside Forward, but when I looked at his stats, he could play in AMC, AMR or MC as a natural position as well, the player was by far my best creative player in the side so I wanted people to give him the ball so he could provide the team with assists, as a result I decided he would be much more suited as an AMC as then he has options to feed the ball all around him and used him as an Advanced Playmaker. This was more beneficial as I had 2 very good strikers who he could set up, and he could also feed the ball to the someone out wide as well. Also because I didn't have another player who I felt good enough to play AMR I immediately felt it would be easier to play him centrally.

Use the assistants reports of the squad, squad depth, to get an idea of what players stand out, then look closer at each player as you build your team.

Also as Max said, don't add Team Instructions or Player Instructions, add them 1 by 1 slowly as you watch how games unfold, maybe your team are playing well but you notice they are playing too many short passes, then maybe you want to add More Direct, or maybe the opposite, they could give the ball away every time they seem to look direct, so you may ask them to play shorter. Then you could say it's just one player, maybe you notice one player just keeps trying something you don't want them too, then you may want to add a Player Instruction to cancel that out.

Also read the roles closely with the different duties when you are setting them as maybe you think you want a ball winning midfielder, but on closer inspection you may see an anchor man or defensive midfielder does everything the BWM does, but is more disciplined in positioning so that would suit you more.

Hey guys thanks for all the comments. I've sorted a formation now to some degree and they're actually playing well again from something I made so I'm happy with that.

But the defence is leaky in my 4-4-2 any tips?

You had the same thread last year. Lazy questions like 'any tips' are barely going to get answers, let alone something that can help you with your specific problem. Why not invest some time into actually getting better? Ask questions about things you don't understand. That's my 'tip'.

Yeah but I've clearly stated that I just made a lil' progress. Don't worry. Thanks anyway.

Just saying your defence is leaky won't help. People here would need to see the tactic, player roles, know the instructions you've set etc. Also maybe the defence is conceding from a certain way over and over again and then you could possibly spot that yourself and rectify it quickly.
