As you can tell by my username and club I am managing, I'm a Man City fan! I love the club, and I love what is happening at the moment - and anybody who says we're 'ruining football' is just jealous, fact!
Anyway, I am currently in the summer of 2020 - so 5 seasons in, and thought I would give you the low down on how my game has gone, and show you my almost unrecognisable squad.
Goalkeeper:
Joe Hart (Number 1) & Christian Kjetil Haug (Backup)
Right Back:
Felix Passlack (Signed from Dortmund for £24m)
Pablo Maffeo (Academy Product - Backup but valued at £10m)
Centre Back:
John Stones (Signed for £30m) & Nicolas Otamendi (First Choice CB pairing)
Vincent Kompany (Backup - will probably sell this summer)
Cameron Humphreys (Academy Product - Backup)
Reece Oxford (Signed for £9.5m - will probably rotate with Otamendi as getting older now)
Left Back:
Ryan Taylor (Regen signed on Free Transfer from Dundee Utd - Aged 19 and valued at £32m)
Brendan Galloway (Signed for £10m - Backup, sometimes rotated as CB too to give more game time)
Centre Mid:
Paul Pogba (Signed for £80m, and Club Captain) & Youri Tielemans (Signed for £24m, now valued at £44m) First Choice CM pairing
Will Hughes (Signed for £16m, asked to leave for First Team football, so will be selling this transfer window),
Ainsley Maitland-Niles (Signed for £16m - Backup/Rotation)
Callum Gribbin (just signed for £9m from Man Utd - will replace Hughes role as Backup CM)
Right Wing:
Goncalo Guedes (Signed for £24m from Benfica in Season One, now valued at £55m - Best Player in the game now, can't rate him highly enough...if you can get him, get him!)
Raheem Sterling (Plays most games either AMR, AMC or AML, so Key Player but position is rotated).
Attacking Midfield Centre (Shadow Striker):
Ross Barkley (Signed for £45m - Sometimes plays CM too)
Marcos Guilherme (Signed for £8m, now valued at £27.5m - Seems quite happy with a Backup/Rotation role in the squad)
Left Wing:
Neymar (Signed for £110m in at start of Season Four - Obviously, he's amazing)
Gareth Bale (Signed for £40m in Season Three - again, is obviously amazing but seems content as Backup to Neymar - only played about 15 games last season and just signed a new contract with a Rotation Squad Status)
Striker:
Romelu Lukaku (Signed for £20m in Season Three - Key Striker, scored 25+ goals every season)
Polish Regen (Can't remember his name, but is a Wonderkid, 'the next Robert Lewandowski' and signed for £10m, now valued at £27m)
Jonathan Bolton (English Regen, Signed for £40m from Middlebrough aged 18, another Wonderkid)
Theirry Ambrose (Not played for us yet as been loaned out every season, just spent the season on loan at Real Betis and finished second leading scorer in La Liga with 22 goals - valued at £2.8m with one month left on contract, so gave him a new 3-year deal and now valued at £28m).
Given the young potential in the squad I am looking at moving on the following players:
Vincent Kompany (Coach report says he's only a Useful Player)
Romelu Lukaku (Key Player, but he's so good that I'm not able to give the two Wonderkids much game time and so slowing their development - this is a risky one, but Theirry Ambrose looks good so could use him as my 'experienced' striker)
Joe Hart (Again, Coach report is only 2* but he is doing a good job, however Christian Kjetil Haug is potential 3.5* and was out on loan at Montpellier last season and did well for them, so may take the risk of making him my Number 1 this season.)
Other than selling the above to make space for my current youngsters to break into the First Team, I don't feel I need to buy any new players - just will send my scouts out looking for young prospects to sign.
In regards to Competitions, I have yet to win any Domestic Cups in 5 years - however, I have won 3 Premier League Titles, and last season I won the Champions League, beating Real Madrid 2-0 in the Final. I nearly lost my job at the end of Season One but was set a points target for the start of Season Two which I met, and then went on to win the League for the first time!
My Assistant Manager is Claude Makalele, but is constantly linked with Managers jobs elsewhere, so I expect he will leave in the next season!
