Just going into my 2nd season with Dortmund, 2017/18 season in game. And my dilemma is which centre back pairing to play. My current team is;

T.Horn

M.Hummells M.Ginter

L.Piszeck. J.Wiegel E.Durm

I.Gundogan. E.Can

K.Volland. B.Embolo. Willian

Very happy with my lineup but I have Sule and Vallejo in reserve who are 20/21 and looking for first team football, they don't wanna move away on loan. I could sell Hummels for maybe as high as 50 mil and after this season his value will decrease. Do I put Sule in for ginter and hope Hummels influence will progress him? Or do I cash in on the big guy now while I still can?

M.Hummells and M.Ginter are much better than Sule and Vallejo... why do you want to sell them?

use sule as your first backup and rotaion him in. then after season 2 maybe first 3rd season, you then sell hummels and then sule is first choise and vallejo 3rd.

in all german cup games, small games i use sule as 1rd and vallejo. then they will get some games.

You are thinking about it the wrong way. As many others are... My point is that managing Dortmund, having these players (haven't seen the rest of the squad) probably requires winning the title or at least race for it to have the money and to feed their ambitions. Not to mention ECL, WCC and Pokal. So with this amount of games (many of them represent their countries as well) it is IMPERATIVE to keep a complex and wide squad of at least 22 players capable to perform at any time. Selling Hummels is not worth it. There are not many CBs performing at his level, he is a club legend of sorts already and is experienced and influental. You just have to rotate all the time and all of the players...

I appreciate your input and to an extent you are correct, however I do not rotate my back 4/5 unless it is necessary and this has always brought great results.

A very big and self confident statement :/

Dont sell anybody. Have them paired up (one older one younger) and rotate them as a couple

Rotation is the key however, remember you can always keep them happy subbing them into or out of a game as long as they play at least 30 mins. This also works with older players coming to the end of their careers but who you want to keep as tutors. The older and younger pairing works well just make sure they compliment each other.

Well, I am the best... :-D Jokes aside - I haven't invented rotation. I have been keeping narrow squad myself (in the lower leagues). But once I started managing bigger clubs the amount of big games made me change the approach. Now at ManU I have Jones, Smalling and Gimenez rotating based on condition and rating and Bazoer and one regen as a backup. Works like charm. It is very hard to keep good backup players if you don't play them...

I agree keeping back up players happy is difficult without some rotation/tactical subs. The worst position for that is GK at least with the outfield players there are usually a chance of playing out of position and not having it affect stats, in my current save I have two good young keepers coming through but neither are ready to replace my current No1 (De Gea) so currently it's a case of keeping one as back up for the season and playing him in league cup and FA Cup matches whilst loaning out the other (I've done this alternately one season one on loan the next the other) this keeps both happy and has helped with both of their development. Young players need playing time to be ready if there are injuries.

I too have De Gea as my No1 and then Donnarumma as a No2 and this setting I can recommend. Donnarumma has about 6-8 EPL starts (still only 19) and all the cups and some ECL and performs on a steady level. I got him for about 8,5mil pounds at the end of the first season...

My second season squad with dortmund - rulli-schmelzer süle hummels pisczek-mkhitaryan İlkay weigl lamela-lukaku berahino

I reckon sell Hummels, you can really improve the team with some of that 50M
