As the title suggests, this is going to be a story about Manchester United. Like many other FM players and people around the world, I too am a Manchester United fan. It is easy to fall in love and follow the club especially when most of people my age started following Manchester United when they were one of the most feared clubs in the world. Led by Sir Alex Ferguson, Manchester United attacked and shredded their opponents, showed grit beyond imagination, fought to their last strengths and voila you were in love with this great club. Even rivals will agree, despite everything that Manchester United is a great club.

To follow Manchester United is like a romance, you fall in love with their outer beauty but the more you know about the club, you slowly start to learn that this is not some infatuation, or a crush but you truly love the club. And it is hard not to love a club which toiled its way to greatness. The Club was crushed and trampled, the team torn apart, there were times after Sir Matt Busby that we were mediocre before the arrival of Sir Alex and now maybe we are again going through that phase. The financial strength has kept us near our rivals but we have lost the fear we generated in our opponents.

I am still going to cheer for them till my voice box no longer works but it saddens us as well to see Manchester United in constant turmoil. A Manchester United save is very easy with the amount of money the club generates and the transfer budget available. You can easily make them a global super power within 2-3 years, its not that hard. Despite all football fans misgivings, money does help make a club win trophies. BUT this is not about the easy way, this is not about buying our back to the top. I want to bring back the Manchester United of old through this FM story, the Manchester United with the attacking vision of Sir Matt Busby and Sir Alex Ferguson, the grit of Jimmy Murphy and Gary Neville, the flair of George Best, Eric Cantona and Ryan Giggs the work ethic of Park Ji-Sung, the solidity of Vidic, Ferdinand, Stam and Bruce, the aggression of Roy Keane and the nimbleness of Paul Scholes.

That said:

Rules:

1. Promote the Academy Players to the First Team instead of adding superstars to my team.

2. I can only sign a first team player if a first team player is sold. For e.g. I can buy a first team player if I sale Wayne Rooney but can't buy a first team player after selling Sam Johnstone. The Number of first team signings should be equal or less than the number of first team players sold.

3. I am allowed to buy young players to the limit of 5. Young players being players of the age of 19 or under. This meaning I can't buy Harry Kane/John Stones/Aymeric Laporte as young players and bolster my first team squad. Players above the age of 19 would be termed as first team and can be signed as per Rule-2 ONLY!

4. To try and introduce more English Players to the club and first team, 2 of the above mentioned 5 players have to be English. I can't buy more than 3 Non-English youth players!

5. Free Transfers - I am not sure if to include them in Rule-2 or to keep them out of it. It will be done as per readers discretion.

6. The Manager - LVG will be replaced. I don't have In Game Editor or FMRTE, so I can't create profile of an exact player. But I am looking for the Manager to be either of this 3:

a) Eric Cantona
b) Ryan Giggs
c) Roy Keane

I will be opening a poll and you can suggest any other player you wish for the club to appoint as Manager. It should be a former Manchester United PLAYER!

7. I am open to other rules and might update them later on!

P.S: I will still be continuing my story A MAN WITH THE DREAM! I will be trying to create my own tactic for the club but might use already made tactics available on various Forums! I am not a genius on creating Tactics unfortunately!

been thinking of doing something like this myself.Im a united fan also so this interests me lots but also thinking of taking barca or real, maybe psg and doing a youth save.Oh and id go for giggsy or keano as manager.Keano is not a tactical genius but would ensure the boys fight for the shirt

There has seemed to be a lot of stories involving Ryan Giggs on here this year, so that's why I voted for Roy Keane. Either way, good luck!

I love the United academy and a fan of them so United was the obvious choice! A youth save with PSG or Real would be interesting as both boards have sign world class player as philosophy so would be a stumbling block!

The same feeling! I might go for Keane or Cantona even if Giggs with to be honest!

Sounds like an interesting story, i chose other and would like to see Karel Poborsky take charge of United

I chose other and would like to see Clayton Blackmore have a go at managing the scum

Changes at Manchester United

LOUIS VAN GAAL SACKED!

View attachment 162945
View attachment 162943Manchester United have today released a statement announcing the departure of Louis Van Gaal as the Manager of the club. The 64 year old who joined Manchester United after the disastrous year under David Moyes is the second manager in 2 years to be sacked after less than desirable results.

View attachment 162944
"We would like to thank Louis Van Gaal for joining Manchester United and helping guide the club back into Champions League", read the statement. "But we at Manchester United follow a particular brand of football which Mr. Van Gaal was unable to bring which led to frustrations both at the end of the boards and players as well as the fans. While Mr. Van Gaal has successfully implemented his philosophy at various clubs, we don't believe it is a right fit for our club. We, as the board, accept that we made a mistake when we failed to see the clear difference in the brand of football we needed and the one Mr. Van Gaal wanted to implement. We wish him all the best for his future endeavors and will always cherish the Manager for guiding us back to Champions League in the times of Turmoil at the Club."

"A New Manager will be announced shortly after due consultations among the Board of Directors. We would like to announce that we are not accepting any applications for the post and the New Manager will be chosen as per the discretion of the club. Mr. Ed Woodward will continue to remain CEO of the club but he won't be involved in transfer deals from this moment. We believe he is better at thrashing our new sponsor deals and expanding our global out reach and his focus will be directed to those areas. The New Manager will be given complete autonomy as regards the transfers. We thank our fans and our sponsors who have shown patience towards the club in what has been few hard years at the club but all of us are now ready to move forward and re-establish our position at the Top of the World Football".

Speculation is rife as to who will be appointed as the new Manchester United manager with mixed news coming from the sources close to the club. At one end we are hearing the names of the likes of Jose Mourinho, Carlo Ancelloti and Pep Guardiola but on the other hand it is being heard that Manchester United board would like an ex-United player to come to Old Trafford and carry the club Forward. Will it be Ryan Giggs, who has being groomed for the role or someone entirely different? Both you and us will find out soon as Manchester United are expected to break the news to New York Stock Exchange soon. It has been a stressful time to be a Manchester United fan and with an inexperienced Manager coming in, it doesn't seem to get easier.

Stay Tuned with us to find out who takes the hot seat at OLD TRAFFORD!

MANCHESTER UNITED UNVEIL NEW MANAGER

THE KING RETURNS TO OLD TRAFFORD

In a surprising turn of events, the Manchester United board informed the NYSE and the world media that ERIC CANTONA has agreed to be the new Manchester United Manager. The ex-Manchester United player and legend at the club has never managed a single club in his entire life post retirement and it is a curious decision by the management at Old Trafford.

Eric Cantona joined Manchester United in 1992 from bitter rivals Leeds United and was the missing puzzle of Sir Alex Ferguson's team as he caught every challenge from its neck and inspired everyone around him as Manchester United won 4 titles in his 5 seasons at the club out of which 9 months were spent in suspension. Eric Cantona was not the most talented nor was he the most vocal leader but he led by example and determination, he typified the Manchester United spirit and displayed passion for the Club like few players ever have. His presence helped the likes of young Giggs and Neville to settle in the First team and inspired many others to join the team. He was a wizard who played with a swagger instead of a wand and instilled the swagger in everyone around him.

"United if life, the rest are mere details" Cantona said this when he played for Manchester United as he revealed his love and passion for the club. He was and is and will remain a special figure at the club and many people and fans are afraid that he will taint his legendary status at the club by accepting this position. Manchester United and the players have been accused of lacking passion many times in the past 2 seasons and if Cantona can do anything he can instill PASSION in the players! His no nonsense attitude will make many players uneasy and only players who are playing for the Club will Survive in the end.

The King himself was unavailable for comment but the club confirmed he will arrive for a Press Conference soon. Ryan Giggs will continue as his deputy and it is expected that many ex-United players will join the coaching staff under the legend. The world of Football are holding their breaths about the appointment but everyone will be keen for the legend to be successful at the club, except maybe Crystal Palace! I could eulogize him, write about him but nothing will capture the essence like what Sir Alex did after his retirement:

Dear Eric

Some months have passed since we last spoke and I felt that I should write to you as a mark of respect and esteem in which I hold you.

When we re-started training, I kept waiting for you to turn up as normal but I think that was in hope not realism and I knew in your eyes when we met a Mottram your time at Manchester United was over. Although, I still fell you should have taken both your Father's and my advice and taken a holiday before making such a major decision.

One thing, I would like you to remember is to remain active and fit. I always remember when I finished at 32 and I started management, I was more concerned about organizing training and he coaching of players that I forgot about my own fitness and then when I realized about six years later what was happening, I started to train again to recapture my fitness and it was murder, so you do need to keep your fitness.

I am sure you have been keeping an eye on our results and as you can see we are doing quite well as you know we have signed Teddy Sheringham to replace you but at the moment he is finding it difficult to find the space he got at Tottenham and is playing deep so we have some adjusting to do. Players sometimes don't realize how difficult it is to play at our level as every game is a Cup Final for our opponents so I just hope he can do it for us.

Our pre-season tour wasn't too bad. The Far East tour was better than expected and our games against Inter Milan were very good. The Charity Shield wasn't a great performance but we were better than Chelsea and deserved to win, even though it went to penalties.

I still feel as we discussed at the end of the season that a top class striker is what is needed and that is always going to be the problem at our club as the financial restraints will always stop us getting the past because of our wage structure and it is such a pity because when you are at at the top you should buy the best to stop the others getting to you. If I was younger, I suppose I would look at it differently, but from a personal point of view, I have not won the European Cup and it does get to me at times. However I just carry on and not put up a mental barrier and I have always had that belief and trust in my players and wish to continue to do so. I keep hoping that i will discover a young Cantona! It is a dream!

As I close this letter, I would like to hope that we will have a chat, a drink, or a meal together soon. I know the club has written to you about the forthcoming dinner and I hope you will manage it, but that is not the most important thing, for it is to remind you how good a player we were for Manchester United and how grateful I am for the service you gave me. I will never forget that and I hope you won't either.

You are always welcome here and if you just pop in unexpectedly for a cup of tea, no fanfare, just for a chat as friends, that would mean more to me than anything. Eric you where I am if you need me and now that you are no longer one of my players, I hope you know you have a friend.

Good luck and God bless,
Yours sincerely
Alex Ferguson CBE

The King finally returns to United after 18 years and everyone will be hoping he proves to be an inspiration like he was back in 1992! All Hail the KING!!

THE ARRIVAL OF THE KING

MANCHESTER UNITED UNVEIL CANTONA AS MANAGER

View attachment 162740

It seems as the years have rolled back as Eric Cantona stands here with Sir Alex Ferguson, Eric Cantona now as the new Manchester United manager. The messiah and demigod to many United fans, Cantona still walks with the familiar swagger and underneath his suit, the collar of his shirt is still upturned from his iconic United days. There is a breath of fresh air at United already and the fans, the board as well as the players have been raving about Cantona. Pundits, players of rival teams though doubting his management skills pay homage to Cantonas footballing skill and brains on the pitch as they wish him all the best for the future! We present to you ERIC CANTONA!!

BBC: Eric, How does it feel to be back? To manage your favorite club?

EC: It feels like a dream. I said and I will repeat Manchester United is my life.

SSN: You once said that you won't consider managing United if Glazers remain, why the change of mind?

EC: I did this for Manchester United and Sir Alex. I still don't like how they manage the club and put them in debt but I am here for Manchester United and the fans, not to please the Glazers.

SSN: Bold claims when they can sack you anytime don't you think?

EC: They can try! [An air of arrogance around him]

Goal: The United fans were very disappointing with the quality of play under Louis Van Gaal, will you be changing that?

EC: Yes Definitely! There will be attack and there will be penetration, there will be fear in the eyes of opponents, there will be kids playing from our academy and there will be showing off of skills. We play not to defeat, we will play to entertain.

Goal: Does that mean defense will be forgotten?

EC: A good defense can be part of entertainment. They can spark fear in opponent strikers can they not?

ESPN: Will you be changing the staff?

EC: Yes, a bit at the very least! I am looking to bring several ex-players into the fold. They know the club, know how we play and how we operate and that can only help. I am here to bring back the past glories and to bring back the United of old and their input will be invaluable.

ESPN: And what about your transfer plans?

EC: I like the club, there maybe a few additions but I think our youth team has enough talent to supplement our First squad.

ESPN:...Is this due to lack of money?

EC: No it isn't. I have money to buy another squad but that isn't how I want to operate.

BBC: You have never managed before, will that be a hindrance?

EC: I don't think so no. I have the knowledge, the skills, I can make the team listen to me and I will have a strong support staff! Manchester United is coming back mark my words! Now I have some players to rough up and changes to make among the Staff! See you once the season starts folks and just like that he walks away!

THE KING IS DEFINITELY BACK!

Have started an ajax youth save but sooo tempted to do one with united as they are my team

A Question for the readers:

As I mentioned in my rules that I can only buy a First Team player if one leaves, does a transfer involving part cash and exchange of a first team player acceptable to the readers? Appreciate your responses to move the save further :)

Seems like a fair move, if you part exchange you gain one, lose one so can't see a reason why not.

If i start a similar save with united i will set myself a target of only signing a world class player every couple of seasons or so as i really want to try and blood youth and develop them as much as i can.Often a few seasons in im feeling sad when gribbin,rashford,borthwick-jackson and others are at oldham and lower league sides.I plan on having a major first team clear out in first season

Yeah but 2 things forced my hands, a long term injury to a first team player and my shock that the player I signed was available!

I walked around the room looking at the face of every player in the first TEAM MEETING as I narrated the proud history of my club. It was necessary to know what their reaction was. Every player knows Manchester United's history but those who love the club always get this fierce look on their face when they hear it again and I was trying to find out which player doesn't. They can find out a new club, I don't want players who are not passionate for the club, I don't want them to put on the famous shirt and strut around at Old Trafford like they have made the shirt famous, it is the red of the red devils that makes million people scream your name and I wanted them to know it. I wasn't much of a speaker, talking with my my performance instead but now I had to speak.

"Manchester United", I began "is not a mere club. It never was and never will be. We at the club are blessed to have a rich history that can capture the hearts of even ardent critics. We at the club are blessed to have a Board that has deep pockets and can pay our salaries even when we under perform like we did the last 2 seasons. We at the club are blessed to have the best facilities to train ourselves and make us ourselves the best of who we can be and last but not the least, We at the Club are blessed to have a fan base large and patient, who celebrate our wins and share our griefs, who sing loudly even if we are losing".

"WE PLAY FOR ALL OF THEM", I THUNDERED. "WE PLAY FOR THE SHIRT AND THE FANS, THE STADIUM AND ITS HISTORY, WE DON'T PLAY FOR ACCOLADES OR SHOW BOATING, NOR DO WE PLAY TO MERELY DEFEAT THE OPPONENTS, WIN OR LOSE, ITS PARCEL OF THE GAME, BUT WE PLAY TO IMPRESS AND ENTERTAIN, FANS SHOULDN'T BE SLEEPY AT THE STADIUM, THEY MUST BE WIDE AWAKE TO SEE A BREATHTAKING PASS OR A WONDERFUL TACKLE. PLAY FOR THE CLUB AND PLAY FOR THE FANS, I PROMISE THE WORLD WILL BE YOURS. THINK OF THIS. And Training at 6 tomorrow, MORNING THAT IS!
