Giggs - The Road To Becoming United Boss

View attachment 139914
So after the massive announcement that Ryan Giggs has decided to leave Manchester United in pursuit of a career in management, i figured it would make for an interesting save, starting off unemployed, with a high reputation as only Giggs would have, and see how long it would take me to get back to Man Utd, but this time, as the boss. Going to go by the rule of, if i get offered a job for more money, i'm going to take it and hopefully keep heading up. This is my first time doing a save like this, and also writing about it, so let's see how it goes...

......

December 9 2015
Nottingham Forest Welcomes Giggs
View attachment 139891
Months have gone by with it being relatively quiet on the managerial future of Ryan Giggs but finally out of seemingly nowhere, Nottingham Forest calls a surprise press conference to reveal a change in managers and that Ryan Giggs has been appointed to carry the club forward and fight to stay in the Championship.

Not quite a club i had in mind to come to, but it looks like a challenge and i have half a season to turn this campaign around.

.....

As you can see the club's current league standings are far from ideal but the season can still be saved, a couple of results that go our way and we will be out of the relegation zones and able to breathe and start looking up. I may be far too optimistic about this. First game is against Wolves who are in 6th, this will be interesting.

Disappointing first loss especially after going a man down and conceding so late in the game, only 5 chances and 1 on target just wasn't enough, didn't help having to sub off my main striker due to injury in the first 20.

Shocking and frustrating as ****. We had all the chances in the world but the finishing just infuriating to watch. I think i counted around three 1 on 1s that was just wasted. Promising to see the amount of chances and shots on target go up, but what use is it when they arn't finished off.

Work must be done...

Big result against an in form team. Tried a slight change in tactics and it's positive to see immediate results against a decent side. With this win it is helping us lift into a good position to finally get out of the relegation zone, just need some luck from fixtures elsewhere

For once a truly dominant result, finishing off chances still needs work but still got all three points on the board, and two victories on the bounce which i think is a first for the club this season.

After taking over the club with them sitting at 23rd in the League table, taken positive steps to saving their season, Although points wise it is still close in the relegation battle, all it would take is a loss and results going against us to be straight back in the relegation spots.

Since taking over though, i've won 3 out of 5 games and going into the new year with 2 victories on the bounce, hopefully i can keep climbing and hopefully be mid table by the end...

Funny that

Just started a save starting 2016/17 season as Ryan Giggs, got the Forest job too in October haha. Will be good to compare :)

Busy January looking forward, hopefully will look to see if i can get a little bit of business done, maybe thinning out this ageing squad, but will look to do most my business during the summer (If i don't get sacked before then) Mainly due to the Transfer Embargo still in place from 2014. Games wise, Charlton and Gillingham should be manageable and help continue this momentum, with Charlton not having a single win in their last 5 and Gillingham having recently changed managers, hopefully i can take advantage. Toughest games will definitely be at the end of the month with Middlesbrough sitting at 8th and QPR at 5th, Should be a good month to get some points on the board and keep heading up.

This. Game. Was. Stressful. Holy ****, from getting an early lead to then being 3-1 down to then end the game finally at 3-3, i've never been so relieved to have the full time whistle. Failing to keep any possession at all thankfully our counter attacking football was enough to get the draw.

After starting the month in 20th place, this team has come on leaps and bounds from when i took over, now looking like a team with fight and passion a mid table finish looks like it can be managed with ease if this kind of form continues.

Proud of this team, moved from not being able to get two wins in a row to now going the whole of January undefeated, the draw for me was the stand out performance, being able to claw back from 3-1 down to draw 3-3 was special.

Starting the league off against QPR which should be a close match between both sides, the former premier league side sitting in at 7th on the league. After that we have a couple of games i hope we should come out as the winning side are against Leeds and the club currently sitting at the bottom of the table Huddersfield, which i'd like to win by a decent margin. After though we have quite a challenging run, first up against real life Premier League champions Leicester City in the FA Cup 5th Round, and then straight after a game against current Championship Leaders Burnley. This month should be interesting, and easily the most challenging i'll be facing as manager so far...

Coming off the high that was January for the side, we are brought back down to earth with our first loss in 9 games. For me, it wasn't deserved and wasn't helped with our previous Player of the Month having the worst game of his career. Shocking team performance and need to do better.

Well, i was hoping for a lot more convincing win from this game. With Huddersfield currently sat at the bottom of the league i was hoping this would be the game to get a lot of goals on the board and really get the morale up for the coming games but this wasn't quite the case. I'll still take the win and with the goal we conceded only coming from a lucky free kick, it's still not all bad.

Oh how this game can be cruel. The term being FM'd is a popular one specifically for times like these, 26 god **** shots, only 7 on target and not a single conversion...yet on the other side, Leicester with 3 shots, THREE ****** SHOTS, TWO ON TARGET and ONE GOAL to win ONE GOD **** NOTHING. They were even a man down for the best part of half an hour and we still made Schmeichel look like he had the game of his season. My strikers are in for a world of pain, Oliveira went from my best player to the worst. ANYWAY let's move on...

Good to see a positive reaction from the defeat in the last game against the league leaders no less. The FA Cup defeat if im honest was inevitably going to come from somewhere so the Championship league and climbing as high as i can in the table was always my priority and this is a strong statement of intent by defeating the current league leaders on their own ground. The only problem is how on earth did we not win by more, Finishing really is becoming an issue in this team with our only goal being a unintended shot from my left wing back...

At last the golden boy has returned, Oliveira has finally gotten over his 5 game goal drought with a brace to seal the victory over Bristol City. Until he got his first goal it was really starting to look like one of those games where we should of been winning 6-0 but probably concede late for a draw but thankfully; after a quiet word from the manager telling him he's playing ****; Oliveira has finally come back to his old goal scoring ways, now for the love of god, don't do that again.

Looking over what has been a tough month i can't complain too much with some of the results, Leicester is still a sore subject, being dumped out of the FA Cup on the back of such a dominant performance was hard to swallow but picking back up in the league and getting the full 3 points against league leaders Burnley seemed to be the silver lining to that thunderous cloud. With a game in hand against teams above in the table, we can still climb yet....

Can't complain with how much the season has been turned around, going from sacking their manager just before the new year and sitting in the relegation zone to now only being a few points off playoffs isn't bad at all. Think part of me believes that this team needs another year in the championship before thinking about promotion, the team is decent but not Premier League decent, we shall see.

(Cheers, any advice to improve this or if there is anything you'd like me to include let me know)

Not a bad looking month with winnable games to be seen. Starting things off with a trip to hull which should be a challenging game, with Hull being in good form and their team playing quite well, we're coming into this game with on a two win run so hopefully the confidence should carry the team. After that we have three games i expect we should win, with Ipswich in at 13th, Preston 23rd and Sheffield Wednesday at 17th these are games we should be able to grab some points from. Biggest game would have to be at the end of the month against Derby, after already beating them in the FA Cup 4th Round this will be a different battle entirely but one i am still optimistic about...

Hull just could not handle wingers. Our two goals were exactly the same with Mendes running up the right, putting in a big cross for Osborn to run in from the left and finish off. Personally i think we should of had at least 4 goals with that same set up play, Osborn being incredibly unlucky to not have at least a hat-trick from that game, especially with Oliveira taking and missing a penalty.

After the start to the game that we had, getting a goal within the first 10 minutes, i had hope for a better outcome than this but i still can't complain, still undefeated for 7 games now and drew 2-2 against local rivals Derby. Smashing month going undefeated from all the games we played, and climbing up in the league to 4th place which has really blown me away. Although with QPR playing later that could suddenly change to 5th, i am still a happy man considering when i took this job, i was hoping for a mid table finish and only promised that to the board in hoping they gave me more money. Got a long month of games next month, all being played in quick succession so i'm trying not to get ahead of myself too much.

Busy ol' month this one, 7 games to be played in total, and most look fairly winnable which isn't too bad. Mostly mid table teams this month, With kicking off the month by hosting Brentford who are currently sitting at 10th, the first six games of the month, the highest league position out of them is 7th so hopefully we can really cement our place in the playoffs, i'm still not hugely convinced this team should be in the shout for promotion, just because surviving relegation in the Premier League will be a tough one. The hardest game of the month will come in at the end playing Wolves, who are currently sat in at 2nd, looking back they were the first team i played against in my career, with a 2-1 win so hopefully we can recreate that performance...

So some stats from this match, we had 14 shots, 10 of which were on target, Brentford had 13 shots, only 4 were on target, yet the game finished 1-1. The only silver lining here is that at least it wasn't a loss, and just a draw which means the undefeated streak continues.

Well, this game almost went a lot worse, Mancienne had probably one of the worst games i've ever seen from a defender, literally seeming like he forgot to how to play football entirely, let alone defend. Once it hit 2-2 i knew change was needed and bringing on Kelvin Wilson seemed to be the best substitution i could of made, from then on in, Reading didn't even get a chance at our goal and even Wilson bagged himself a goal.

This is quite unreal. I don't think i've ever quite done something like this, managing to climb from the bottom of the league, to now being up top and being a win away from winning the whole **** thing. I still think being in the Premier League is too much for this team right now, with a leaky defence and my go to striker and winger being in on loan, this team needs a lot of work and i can see a lot of movement over the summer.

As the season comes to a close, the battle for the title came down to the last day, with us sitting at the top of the league, 1 point ahead of 2nd place Burnley, who have been in title contention for most of the season. We just lost it all in the last minute. Absolutely fuming but every fairy tale must come to an end i suppose, with this season up to know, has been quite amazing, but cracks shone through just when we needed to carry the form of last month on. Especially against the team that is finishing the season in 17th. Frustrating to say the least.

That last loss there still really hurts to see. I mean considering that when i took the job, the highest expectation i could guarantee the board was mid-table, to finish 2nd is amazing, but still, Winning is in my blood, with all my years at United, and i wanted the win. Especially proud of the league position line and the growth you can see since i took over.

For next season, i'm fairly uncertain on where i'm going to be, as part of me wants a new challenge in a different league before i take on the monster that is the Premier League, but that's very dependant on what jobs are available at the time, as well as if i get offered something better. Another factor of if i stay with Forest is the current Transfer Embargo and if it gets lifted by the next transfer window. Those of you more experienced will probably know if it does or not, or if i can find out when it gets lifted, but for now i can only speculate and mainly hope really.

For the next update, i will speed through the offseason and start the updates when there is any activity to speak of.

After a long and successful season it was time for Chris Cohen to move on in his career, after 9 years at the club i feel it was time to freshen up my back line, with more youth coming through the ranks and replacing some ageing legs. With Tottenham stumping up around 7mil for him, i felt it was a fair deal

De Vries & Pinillos leave the club

Goalkeeper De Vries leaves the club on a free transfer after being deemed surplus to requirements, and Fulham buy Pinillos's services for around 500k, after not really getting much game time for either of these two, it seemed best to move them on

Taking advantage of this players availability, Kevin Wimmer has come the other way from Spurs to the Forest in a deal for around 8 mil. As i said earlier, i felt like a little bit of youth was in order for not just my back 4, but my squad in general. Being only 23, i feel he is experienced enough to still stand his own in the league but still can improve, and another big bonus is he is versatile and can play multiple positions.

Been busy on the market replacing key positions that we lost due to loanees going back to their parent clubs. Charlie Austin in for the leaving Oliviero, needed a proven goalscorer to head up my front line, with Austin on the transfer list i was able to pick him up pretty cheaply, Jorge and Embolo come in as part of my youthful regeneration of the club, proud to have landed Embolo and hoping to utilise him as a shadow striker, and Jorge will be a great asset to have as my left full back. This has taken quite a chunk of my transfer budget but it was necessary additions.
