Has anyone else also got the feeling that this version of FM is much more vulnerable when you are playing with wingers or inside forwards compared to previous years?

Since I started playing FM 10+ years ago, I always preferred to play 4-3-2-1. I love the wide players, inside scorers can score a lot of goals, while the backs should have the opportunity to go forward and provide assists as well.

However, this version I haven't found a tactic which gives me as solid results as tactics without wide players. I tried several tactics from the forum as well, but all are pretty leaky at the back (even when I am playing with good teams like Dortmund or Roma). I am just struggling to be consistent, while I get good runs of results with other tactics.

For now I am using a diamond tactic and 3 striker tactic which are both great, but I just can't get that all 4-2-3-1 tactics don't seem to work for me. When choosing a new club, I now avoid the ones with great wingers, which is a pity.

Do more people have the same problem?

It really depends on what you're doing.

Waaaaaaaa excellent answer!!! :S Really helpful.

I am suffering the same problem as you, michelb86. The only "solution" I've managed to is attacking always the same wing, and forcing the back on that wing to stay down. I mean: if I am attacking with my LW, then my LB should be always at defence. Regarding the right wing, more conservative.

Try for a pair of games, perhaps it is valid for your gamestyle.

The OP lacks detail. If he wanted advice about what his issues are, he needs to post the tactic and the issues. So yes, it depends on what he's doing. There's no reason a 4-2-3-1 or any standard formation can't work. It's just a formation, after all. What the setup within that is, that's important.

WJ's answer is completely valid. The OP stated a couple of problems but didn't really give any depth of what has been tried and what isn't working. So its not as if we can make any real recommendations of what to try when we don't know what has already been done. Any formation CAN work in FM17 - its all a matter of what you are trying to build, the roles and duties, and the players you have.
