I don't quite understand this at all. I somehow ended up finishing 3rd in my group and not going through. I am Man City second season and was drawn in a group with Barca, Juventus and Galatasaray.

Both Juventus and us ended up on 8 pts but i had a +4 gd and they had a +3, i drew against them both times 0-0 and 1-1 and i had also scored more goals. They went through in second instead of us. I can only think that it was due to them scoring against us at home in the 1-1 draw, if so that's stupid.

Can anyone suggest why this has happened??

ye probably because of the away goal mate.
tip when u play a team like galatasaray go overload and make sure u get few goals this will ensure it wont happen again haha

If two or more teams are equal on points on completion of the group
matches, the following criteria are applied to determine the rankings (in
descending order):
a) higher number of points obtained in the group matches played among the
teams in question;
b) superior goal difference from the group matches played among the teams
in question;
c) higher number of goals scored away from home in the group matches
played among the teams in question;
d) superior goal difference from all group matches played;
e) higher number of goals scored;
f) higher number of coefficient points accumulated by the club in question,
as well as its association, over the previous five seasons (see paragraph
9.02).

The Champions League rules are stupid to be honest. They score 1 away goal and you go out despite a better goal difference, UEFA are morons.

Yes they are especially since that away goal was a dodgy penalty in the 90th minute to make it 1-1 (gutted!!) oh well have to try and win the Europa now.
