Hi ALL

So I usually play as Gillingham, the first thing I do is sign all coaches. HIGH stat for 1 area (do not focus so much on motivation and man management or coaching badges, settle for between 7-12 and get an attribute of say 16 for shooting)

I usually set up 2 tactics a 532 with wingbacks and a 442. with my ideal starting 11 playing in whatever role suits them best, with a target man and advanced forward up top.

I set team instructions to, stay on feet, retain possession and stop gk from taking quick goalkicks.

I let my assistant take preseason training and i arrange lots of friendlies as its good way to get income (usually between 8-10 games)

I seem to leak goals all over the place and never have much success with either tactic.

I am just wondering what I need to do differently (I understand Gills arent the best team in the division, but I should still be able to get a top half finish 1st season) also any cheap signings anyone can reccomend, much appreciated

Cheers

Could be a poor tactic. There's no tactical (this is the form we're in) information to go on, so nothing really to advise. You mention coaches and friendlies etc, all of which is pointless information to the reason for the thread - "leaking" goals.

Have a look in matches and see what your issues are.

A MAJOR issue you posted is "with my ideal starting 11 playing in whatever role suits them best". This is not a good approach. Not to say it can never work, but it generally won't. You aren't putting together a tactic when you do that - you are literally telling them go out there and play in the way that best suits them individually, with no thought of how it actually fits together as a team. Regardless of what the green circle tells you, any player can perform in any role if they have the attributes to make it work.

Completely agree with WJ - you haven't given us enough tactical information and nowhere near enough actual analysis of the problem to come up with anything but horribly vague recommendations, and that's rather pointless.
