Was a member on FM Base about 5 years ago and it was a really nice site to chat about FM and share info
etc etc.
Recently returned and am a little saddened how little interaction there is on here so was just wondering what
has happened....

People move on, starting your own FM/Twitch channels or FMsite is so easy nowadays. I would expect all traffic is down a slight bit on old forum sites

Also a lot of people aren't very thrilled with FM this year, I play it religiously every year but I'm not even half way through a season this year. I'm not usually a complainer but I really hate a lot about FM18, it saddens me greatly.

I can see why people aren't that impressed with FM18 & tbh I've spent more time designing kits than actually
playing the game.(H)

I personally feel the games popularity has plummeted since the 'roles' introduction. Really has taken the control away and all I want to do is be able to instruct my players how I want and can't even do that. I feel some of the things improve with the match engine but when I want to make a slight change I need to go through each **** role just to make a tiny change. Causes me so many frustrations and it's not fun!!!

The popularity clearly hasn't plummeted. SI's sales are increasing every year. You're confusing quieter forums with the game being less popular when forums are less popular.

As WJ has said its sales increase ever year. Times change and i don't feel forums are as popular anymore.

Ok, popularity might be the wrong word but the reviews for the game have been getting worse and worse each year and that's what I meant. Fm 2010-2013 all scored user reviews 8.0 and over...since then the user satisfaction has really dropped!!!

As mentioned previously video streaming is more popular than forums but I'm a bit old skool so I'll be sticking with forums for the time being...

Critical reviews are pretty steady for the last 3 versions. What kind of "user reviews" are you referring to? If its Steam, there is a well known campaign by FM fans from a certain nation who having been doing review bombs for a few years to protest the lack of a specific language version of the game.

As for the original question.... I think its at least partly changing dynamics. The SI forums aren't as busy as they used to be either. Ten years ago, there were few options for FM fans to discuss the game except for forums. Now you have so many ways. Youtube, Twitch, Twitter, Facebook groups, Slack, Discord chats,. blogs.... You can interact with tons of FM fans in so many different ways. Unless the fanbase is growing significant with each version - and its not, thought it doesn't seem to be going the opposite direction, either - that diversity is going to have an impact.
