Managers View: "Overall I felt Pre-Season was a success, as it enabled me to get to know the players a lot better and also establish who my better players are. Today is the start of a new season in the Premier League, and today at Anfield, Liverpool welcome newly promoted Birmingham City, who have new Chinese owners and a new manager to go with them. Liverpool are expected to take all 3 points here today but, Birmingham will be determined not to go down too easily.

Liverpool have won the 3 points here today, but it could have been so different had Birmingham not been so resilient in defence. In the first minute of the game, Steven Gerrard hit Joe Hart's right hand post after some good work down the right hand side from Kuyt. It was Dirk Kuyt that got the only goal of the game after an exchange of passes with Fernando Torres before sliding the ball under a rushing out Joe Hart. Birmingham had chances to equalise and their best chance fell to debutant, Roger Johnson who headed wide in front of the Kop from a James McFadden corner. An onslaught from Liverpool in the second half should have made the full time score a lot more, but thanks to some last ditch defending from the Blues back line, and some superb shot stopping skills from Joe Hart, Birmingham kept the score line to a minimum.

Managers View: I am pleased that we only lost by one goal today when it could have easily been so more. These are the sort of games we are not expected to win, so the games against the teams in and around us are the games we should be competing more in and hopefully getting the wins and clocking up points towards our fight against relegation.

Birmingham have picked up their first win of the season here tonight thanks to a glancing header from striker, Gary O'Connor. The goal came late in the second half thanks to a cross from Gregory Vignal. It was Lee Carsley who played the ball wide for Vignal who drove on with the ball before placing a left footed cross into the near post where O'Connor met the ball with his head before David James, sending the Blues fans' behind the goal into celebration.

Managers View: I am delighted that we have picked up the 3 points here tonight and sent the fans, that have travelled an extremly long way on a week night, home happy.

Welcome to Sky Sports 2 this afternoon where we bring you live coverage from St.Andrews of the game between Birmingham City and Wolverhampton Wanderers.
In the studio today we have two striking legends of these two clubs in Trevor Francis and Steve Bull. First of all, Trevor, what does this game mean to both sets of supporters?
"Well I think that this game ranks second in comparison to the other two teams they class as having a greater rivalry with, in the form of Aston Villa and West Bromwich Albion. But I still think that this game has that ding-dong derby edge to it. Certainly in my day, the players weren't scared about putting the boot in and showing their commitment. I just think that in more recent years, the Premier League has cut down on the big crunching tackles, that used to be the main ingredient in derby fixtures".

Todays derby fixture has ended all square, with both goals coming in the first 20 minutes here at St.Andrews. In the 11th minute, Matt Jarvis was bought down on the edge of the box by Stephen Carr. Welshman, David Jones stepped up and powered the resulting free kick into the top left hand corner, stunning the Tilton Road End. Birmingham proved to be no pushovers as a Gregory Vignal cross filtered through and Keith Fahey pounced on the loose ball and knocked the ball past Wayne Hennessey to stop the travelling Wolves supporters celebrating. Both sides had chances to win the game but neither could take there chances.

Managers View: I am happy with the point today. Derby games are so hard to predict, because there all about who's better on the day. Today we proved to be better but didn't take our chances. However, Wolves also had their fair share of chances to win it, but they failed to capitalise aswell.

Tonight brings League Cup football to St.Andrews, where Birmingham City will be facing Millwall, for a place in the 3rd round of the Cup. A crowd of around 13,500 is expected to turn out.
Final Score:

Garry O'Connor's 7th minute finish was enough for the Blues tonight, who comfortably saw off Millwall, who were never really a threat the Blues goal.
Managers View: Tonight we showed that its not all about winning in style and that we can grind results out and hold on to them.

Birmingham City play host to Manchester City today, who have certainly been spending the cash as of late, and who are the favourites to take all 3 points here today.

Today proved to be quite a controversial day for Birmingham City. In the 16th minute they had a strong penalty claim turned down as Cameron Jerome was bought down from behind by Wayne Bridge just inside the box. With half time iminant, Manchester City, pushed forward hoping to break the deadlock. After some neat work down the left hand side by Stephen Ireland, Carlos Tevez was released through on the Birmingham goal. However, Scott Dann wrestled with Tevez before bringing him down inside the box, with what seemed to include a rather spiteful kick from Tevez on Dann, which resulted in Dann pushing him to ground. The referee felt the need to show Dann a straight red card, which resulted Keith Fahey protesting against the referee's decision which also led him to be sent off for a second offence, leaving Birmingham with 9 men before half time. Ex Aston Villa midfielder, Gareth Barry, slotted home the penalty, sparking furious reactions from the Birmingham faithful. In the second half Manchester City poured the pressure on to Blues, but couldn't find a break through. It wasn't until the 73rd minute when substitute Manu Adebayor cooly slotted home for 2-0. The scoreline was complete when controversial figure, Tevez tapped in a low cross to make it 3-0.

Managers View: I am extremely disappointed with the quality of refereeing today. Ok, Keith has protested and quite rightly, but there is no need to give him a second yellow for it. We will be appealing against Keith's red card, and hopefully the FA will see sense and eradicate the card against Keith's name.

The final day of the transfer window saw Birmingham City sign Arsenal youngster, Jay Emmanuel Thomas for a transfer fee of £425,000.
