What are these regan players --any advice on how to start out with Man Utd,new striker and coaching help

Back in the days when Football Manager was known as 'Championship Manager', there was a player development system whereby players that retired would come back as another young player. This young player would turn out to have the same attributes & position as the retired player, but would come back under a different name. Basically, the player was regenerated by the game - hence the term 'regen'.

A new player development system was introduced a few years ago, where players were no longer regenerated. Under this system, when a player retired, he was replaced by a new player that was completely different to the retiring player. Then, the system was changed again so that generation of players was not linked to retirement. After this alteration, the database size could fluctuate a lot more. Because of this, 'regens' is no longer the appropriate name for these players. Instead, they are called FREDs. They gained this name when, when the new feature was being introduced, a member of the Sports Interactive team was asked what the new players were to be referred as. It became apparent that there was no official name, so he suggested the term 'FREDs' to be used.

Nonetheless, they are still commonly referred to as regens despite this not being the accurate term.

How do I find out if my player is a regen?

Regens are generated at the start of every season, so understandably the likelihood of finding regens increases the further you get into the game. You can distinguish a regen from a regular player by checking their profile picture - if the player has a computer generated face, you have a regen!

Another way to tell if a player is a regen is by checking his playing history. If his history starts after the season the game starts, he is a regen.

Regen Nationality

The nationality of your regen is largely determined by the location of your stadium, which will 90-95% of cases equal to regens coming from the country where your club is located. But a small percentage will come from other nations and it's not a absolutely certain what determines this. But here's an (incomplete/inaccurate) list of things that affect it:
Your clubs scouting knowledge. Eg, what countries/areas do you have full knowledge of.
Nationality of yourself, the manager plus any other staff in particular your assistant manager.
Nationality of any feeder/parent clubs.
(unlikely but has been mentioned) Going on pre-season tours to particular countries.

As you can see, all of this one way or another links in with the scouting knowledge of your club.

Regen Personalities

Ever noticed that some of your regens may have humorous personalities in their profile? This is a joke put into the game by the creators of the game, Sports Interactive. The regens you find with funny personalities happen to be employees of the company. An example of this can be seen with Craig Hunter's 'cluck-cluck' personality. To find more Sports Interactive employees in your game, type 'faceinthegame' into your search box on Football Manager.

Note: Some SI employees do not have unique personalities included. Not all players returned will be Sports Interactive employees.

Got that of the Internet.

Um, you don't really need to buy anyone first season, just keep the team you have maybe buy some youth players for when player retire. Should be pretty easy for you.
