Two Liverpool fans have been stabbed in Naples ahead of the Europa League tie in the city.

Liverpool are due to play Napoli at the team's San Paolo stadium on Thursday evening.
Merseyside Police said a total of six Liverpool fans were assaulted in the Italian city on Wednesday night.
Two men, aged 27 and 53, were taken to hospital with stab wounds. Their injuries are not thought to be life-threatening, a police spokesman said.
The BBC's correspondent in Rome, Duncan Kennedy, said doctors had told him the 53-year-old, Alexander Phillips, was due to be released later.

Three arrests

The Foreign Office said he was from Liverpool.
The 27-year-old man, who has asked not to be named, is expected to remain in hospital for observation.
It is understood 10 Italian youths with sticks and at least one knife were involved in the attack.
There are also reports of a family of four being injured. It is not clear whether they are included in the group of six fans Merseyside Police have been made aware of.
Naples police said three people had been arrested over that incident.

Shocking news, this. Italy is a violent place for football fans, it seems. Also, I'd like to draw attention to reports of a FAMILY of four being injured, which is truly sick. Who would attack a family going to see their club play?

That is awful, very disturbing. Hope they get well soon :(

the Napoletean Ultras dont care about anyone, if you are not f napoli you are a target in their eyes

Nevermind that the paras were deployed in Napoli a few years ago to fight the mafia...

I thought it was the Roma fans that normally did this but look like it is spreading to other parts of Italy. Your right it is very sick and I hope Uefa come down heavily and realise the potential implications this could cause.

Napoli fans are mad, and it just so happens i've got them now in a pre-season friendly on the FM2011 demo.

If I win that one's for you Liverpool fans:wub:

they will get another ****** fine, and maybe a couple of closed doors games and things wont change

Awful when this happens because of other's juvenile opinions on Football culture.

What is actually wrong with some people?

I just hope for the good of the game the Liverpool fans dont respond to this provocation. Hopefully they wont.

If this happened over here we would be banned from Europe again. Why cant Uefa see the problems and do likewise.

dangerous place is Napoli,if you want to know there was also fight in St.Petersburg between Zenit and Hajduk fans...mad supporters

See, we used to have this problem here. But for all its faults, English football sat up, took notice, and cleaned up its act. Now it seems we have some of the best behaved fans in the world. There's little to no racism, and very little violence. In general, we have a great system here, and we should give ourselves credit for it.

Maybe this might cheer you up Liverpool fans.

Cheers Buddy, shame Savaged didnt score for you.

Shocking these Italian ultras are still attacking travelling fans especially a family of four, thats out of order. I hope the fans and the italians who tried to help the Liverpool fans out get well soon. Not looking good for Uefa in Italy at the moment what with the Serbia v Italy game (i know was caused by serbian fans) and now this.

talian police have admitted gangs of Napoli's hardcore Ultra fans went out hunting Liverpool supporters to attack in the city on Wednesday night.

There were a number of incidents ahead of the club's Europa League match at the Stadio San Paolo, which resulted in five English people - two of whom were stabbed - and one Italian being taken to hospital.

Their injuries were not deemed to be serious and all were discharged after receiving treatment but it has prompted police to step up security ahead of the game.

There were three arrests made after the attacks and police recovered an array of weapons and Ultra paraphernalia from the home of one.

Among the weapons seized were a baseball bat, several five-foot long aluminium bars with numerous strategically-placed screws protruding and a six-foot wooden plank.

"Ultras went out seeking English fans, absolutely," said Filippo Bonfiglio, head of DIGOS, the local department which deals with terrorism and political activity.

"There are groups of violent supporters here in Naples so we could hypothesise something like this would happen but it was impossible to prevent every attack everywhere."

italy have the worst hooligans now days like all the ultra clans out there just ******* nutters

Who said "Liverpool will be the next Leeds?" .... 2 leeds fans were stabbed aswell in Istanbul... :(

think it's up to 6 people being attacked now (with 1 being a local pizzeria owner trying to reason with the ultra's to leave the LFC fans alone) and they've done it under no provocation...
