Barcelona manager Josep Guardiola has emerged as the favorite to succeed Sir Alex Ferguson when the Scot steps down at Manchester United. The Spanish media suggested Ferguson recommended Guardiola for the United board because of his style of play.
Guardiola, 39, still has not extended his contact which is due to expire next summer and he is believed to have a negative relationship with the Catalan club's president Sandro Rossell.
Guardiola's agent Jose Maria Orobigt has confirmed that his client has received an offer from a top European club, which is believed to be United.
Other candidates for the job include Real Madrid manager José Mourinho, former Aston Villa boss Martin O'Neill and Everton manager David Moyes.

1.) Not a reliable source
2.) i genuinely dont believe it will be him. i think they will go for someone british like Moyes, O Neill etc

Mourinho is the dark horse imo.

Press are just putting 1 + 1 together here and making 3.

I would like that to happen but it wont, i reckon Mouriniho as he said he would love the oppourtunity to manage the red devils!

Why would United offer a contract when Fergie hasn't set a retirement date. As Joe said, unreliable source.

Sir Alex will still be United manager in 3-4 years. Well, I think he will be.. So it's a little stupid to link anyone with the job, things can change.

Mourinho for me. Someone like Giggs after him, long-term.

Moved to the correct section.

I still think Mourinho will end up at the helm.

In 2 years, when Mourinho wins everything in Real Madrid he will go to OT.

It not impossible. Management is Spanish club is very different. Even last season Pep didnt sign extension early. As things stand Barca president is just a pain in *** for everyone. I wont be surprised to see Pep not signing extension.

Having said that Jose is the fav to take over.

pep won't join as mourinho going to take over fergie but i do feel that pep is going to leave barca and retire. I think he has lost his love of the game

We are not midtable mediocre team. We have Jose with "Come and get me plea", and with that we wont be going for inexperienced managers. Inexperienced in managing big clubs. Even in recent interview SAF said they want experienced manager at OT to stop what would have happened with Rooney.

it takes a special kind of manager to manage Manchester United so for that rules out David Moyes and Martin O'Niel. would love to see Jose in charge after Sir Alex but Pep would also do nicely though.

****, unreliable sites write stories like these so they can get this kind of publicity, it's purely speculation and in no way deserves it's own thread. Goal.com used to do it all the time, hopefully they've grown out of it by now though.

I feel we may need to expand on sites not used as credible sources in addition to goal.com
