Can anyone give me some ideas on making the most of pre season training & friendlies?

I'm just starting my 2nd season with Ipswich after finishing 1st in the championship last season. The biggest issue i had was although my team played well together but around 50% of the players really struggled with fitness most of the season.

Any tips would be greatly appreciated!!

Thanks

IMO pre-season training schedules are a waste of time. Just use your usual training schedule but drop the intensity to about 1/4 in pre-season, then up it to 1/2 when the season starts, then again to 3/4 after a few more matches.

Rotate your players. You may be tempted to always field your strongest possible side every match, but if you do this your first choice players probably will get rather tired as the season goes on.

I actually made it to focus as much as possible on Strength and Aerobic because pre-season is the best time for intense physical training. So, in my schedules, other training categories will either stay around the same or get increased but mainly, Strength and Aerobics will be high... :)

LOL this guy has clearly never played past primary school lvel football , nevermind know anything to this extent in tactical training, they have it completely mixed up, pre season training it meant to be 100 times more intense than the actual season dates. sorry, but he is a *&%G&*@ :)
