How to fix low team morale?

Hi all,

Ive started my FM11 game managing Darlington (Blue square premiere), and having been just relegated previous seasion (before I took over) all of my players have got really low morale.. most of the time its literally 'very poor' or 'poor'.

We lost or drew on all friendly games... and we're not doing so good in the competitive matches having played around 6, only winning 2 (now 14th in tables). Even when I do get a win they're morale doesnt go up massivly, just to 'okay' then it goes straight back down.

How can I fix this?

Im not new to FM, having owned all previous 4 versions, but obviously im not doing brilliant as manager otherwise we'd be winning more games - I accept that. Ive also got 4 higher league players playing for me on loan for the season etc so the talent is there..!

I have tried everything.. private chat, praising form when its good, using team talks etc but nothing is coming of it. Do I have to go as far as offering new contracts with higher wages to motivate them abit more (goal bonus and clean sheet etc)?

Any help appreciated.

If and when you can, try arrange some friendlies with extremely low ranked opposition. Then field a good squad and hope they can annhilate then

Basically by winning. I know that is harder done than said, but that is only the way outside offering new contracts AFAIK.

Try what Shakhtardfc1 said, but you could also arrange a friendly against your u19's.

All you need to do is win games.. The more you win and praise your squad the quicker their morale will improve, simple as that.

Ok thanks for the suggestions.. all makes sense.

How effective is the giving of new contracts? Will that make much of a difference? Its not a completely stupid method as I have alot of players contracts expiring within the next year... so I will only end up doing them at the end of season - so if it helps, may aswell do it now.

Well having played about another 5 games, with my strikers not scoring a goal for about 12 hours now ive issued 6 official warnings to players for poor performance. I was glad to see that everyone of them accepted the criticism, and now promise to improve their performance and motivation.

I hasve to say I was expecting bad reactions - but no, so lets see what happens now
