I've noticed that if you are ahead by one goal then in about the 80th minute the opponent throws caution to the wind and playes 4-2-4. As good as every time. My problem isn't really defending against this, but what gets to me is that 1/3 of the times this happens I end up with a draw. The opposition hammers me and I can't get a counter attack working. However, when I have been a goal down and tried 4-2-4 I usually end up conceeding a goal due to a counter.

I am wondering what you do in this situation? I'm almost left with a feeling that different "rules" apply to your team and the opposition. I know/hope this is not the case, but it certainly seems so.

If I'm one up I usually sub off a striker (i play using a trequartista or poacher with a target man if I'm using a 4-4-2 or a variation of it) for another CB and play 5-4-1 defensive with the target man up front. Probably move a CM into DM or an AM into CM as well.

Nothing, muaha. Play 4-2-4 back, or go proper containing defensive.

Possibly instruct your team to exploit the middle and crowd out your midfield, eg sacrifice a striker, move aml to ml etc. and just retain possession and pass to feet :)

Well, I usually sub off my striker and put it as a CB, then I move one MC into DM position and play with normal defensive line (it's further to the left, to the "deep") with instructions "contain", and "pass to feet". I usually switch to Contain mentality and Time Wastin "often".. :) No way they're gonna score against my team :p And yeah, try with oppostion instructions such as tight marking.. they're useful, you know :D

I go from 4-3-3 (straight through the middle, none of the fancy barca 4-3-3 stuff :p) to a 5-1-3-1, slow the tempo down, change from attacking mentality to contain and put time wasting all the way up. Works for me every time :)

dominate the midfield going 4-5-1
Also make sure your full backs duty is defend

It's not really 4-2-4, it's just 4-4-2 with AML & R's. The game calls that a 4-2-4.

I play 9-2-5, for service and devotion you would think that i would deserve a fair promotion.Want to move ahead but the boss wont seem to let me in i swear sometimes that man is out to get me Mmmmm...

I usually drop a striker off to make a 5 man midfield. This breaks down there 4 man attack and when you counter you still have the striker + a 5 man midfield attacking.

Sorry what......? :S

just slow the tempo down, change to a defensive tactic/mindset and ramp up the time-wasting... also stop your full backs from making forward runs (if they do) so they hold position.
