Hello everyone, i am not new here, i have been following the forum for a while, i am just the quiet user and i don't post much. Now to get to the point.

I am currently playing a game with my local team of KF Tirana, Albanian Superleague team which is the most successful teams in Albanian history having won 24 league titles etc etc. Last years have been hard for them, with other teams like their arch rivals of Dinamo or Vllaznia getting the glory so i decided to try and get them back on their feet and maybe achieve something that Albanian teams have been dreaming for a long team, the European Qualifications.

Either way, in my first year as a manager i get lucky with a couple of really good free agents. They finished 3rd last season so i can go in the Euro Cup Qualifying phase but i get destroyed by AZ. (unlucky draw). I finish the first season 2nd to Vllaznia (2 points away, bastards wouldnt lose a single game). Anyway, 2nd season starts, i get a new contract, new signings which really took my team into a new level, and gave me the surprised entrance to the Euro Cups with the toughest team being Atletico Bilbao which i managed to get through by a 0-0 draw at home and a 1-1 draw away. So i get a legendary qualification to the Euro Cup and i got Chelsea, M. Haifa and Standard in my group. Now i knew i was going to destroyed but i still was happy to participate. I finished last in my group, with 4 points, managed to get a 0-0 with M.Haifa at home and a 2-0 win to Standard which was an epic result for us, but Chelsea destroyed me 4-0 both times. By loses like that the morale of my players completely fell and they started to complain. As a result my domestic results were starting to suffer, having gone unbeaten until december up to that point i got 3 defeats and 2 draws in 2 months, to lesser teams.

Now i ask, is it actually good to aim for those unneeded qualifications to the major cups or does it only hurt ur team in the long run? I know that economically they help a lot, but in terms of confidence they destroyed my perfect season.

When you go from just playing into a national league then into a European competition, you need squad depth, thats football management 101, what i would suggest is to try and get some free players who have had a wealth of european football, that will help your squad transcend into a european team, also rotate most games, use your more experience players at home in europe to get a result, and for away games just send the kids or just normal squad players, so your not wasting your best players in the league

Hope this helps

Don't think so, your job is to watch morale of your team, use different team talks and don't be harsh when you lose against Chelsea or clubs like that

Stick at it.
Each time you participate in it you get better.
Also you will get a lot of money from it so you will get more transfer money to improve your team.

Some tips

Try a tactic like Koflok one which I use. You might get better results and might be able to qualify for knock out rounds.
When facing bigger teams like Chelsea set the go to counter or defensive and if you get a goal and your leading go to contain.

At the moment i have a mixture of experienced and young players at the club. the most successful player i had was Chevanton which failed and never really did anything. I try to rotate youngsters often and i try to get some Albanian youngsters to develop them for the national team but in terms of team depth, i have enough players to cover for every role. I cant get any good players with European experience as my league doesnt have enough reputation for anyone to want to join.
I am currently playing a 4-1-2-1-2, inspired by the Ancelloti's AC Milan team that won the 2007 champions league which has worked really well in the league (1st - 26P, 44S, 16C), ill try the formation u suggested me, and ill try to qualify for the Champions League next year, which will probably be impossible, but the Europa League might be easier. Any suggestion as to what player i should get that would really perform well at my level? I am in my 2nd season (a good DR or DM would help as mine are aging)

*EDIT*

I just checked Koflok's and i can hardly play it this year as i dont have any wingers at all and i focus my game on AMC. I could try it next year though. Any ideas on good wingers?

Depends on budget and wage, because with a question as open as that I will just say C.Ronaldo ;)

Well transfer budget is usually around 400k-500k€, maybe more next year cuz of my europa league games and i will unload some of the players i got for free and are actually worth something now. Wage budget is 43k€ with max wage at the moment is 2.600€ p/w which goes to Marek Jarolim

It hurts your team in the short term, long term you get more money, your club and league rep will go up so you can get better players and more money. I did a game with FC Levadia on FM10 and had similar finances. I transferred almost all of the transfer money to wage budget and that allowed me to sign 2-3 players on 10k a week wages. But to pay these wages you would have to make it to the group stages in Europe every season.

Well does the national economics also change in this case? like do the other teams get better financially if i manage to do well in Europe?

When you qualify for Europe you need to make sure you have a big squad, that's what I've found anyway. You need to have enough (quality) players to rotate round, because fixtures can be congested when in Europe. Use the money you get for qualifying (I got 6.7 million as CSKA Moscow) to expand your squad, although I dunno how much you get for getting into the Euro Cup as I was in the Champions Cup.

Nothing close to that i am afraid :/, Either way i still have to see what the board is going to offer next season.

Well make sure you expand your squad with good players. Also, try private conversations with players that play well after each game, that usually gets their morale higher. Obviously don't praise the same player after every game because they get annoyed.

It's all about to have depth on your team. When I managed to qualify for the UEFA Cup with Metalurg Zp, thanks to the extra quota granted by the UEFA, the first thing I did was get rid of all my mediocre players and buy young players and high-level veterans, so I managed to complete a team very competitive.

Then it's all about having many friendlies for the team to melt. And giving them a good tactic (H)

Yep, this is how the dynamic league rep should work. You play in Europe and get prize money and participation fees, your team's rep goes up and you can sign better players. Your success in Europe takes up the league's rep that will start to attract more wealthy sponsors, TV deals and so on. You will enjoy these benefits yourself too. But it is a slow process, winning the Champions league doesn't turn your national league immediately into a leading football league in the world.
